Chapter 11:
Synthetic Love
Stepping into my room i looked outside the window as I caught sight of a figure standing in front of the door. Camella stood there, her gaze fixed on the stars above, the night sky illuminating her features.
"I won't be leaving until you agree"her words echoed in my mind
I just stood there until I saw her walks towards the grass and sat down
"I guess she stuck to her words," I whispered to myself, knowing that she would not be leaving as she had promised.
Unable to bear the weight of guilt any longer, I couldn't resist the urge to come down, taking a seat on the grass beside Camella as the sense of obligation and the urge to ease the guilt led me to her side,
The sky above was a canvas of dark blue, dotted with stars that twinkled gently, creating an endless expanse of sparkling lights.
The soft blades of grass bent and swayed gently under our weight, and a cool breeze swept by,
The only sounds that filled the air were the occasional soft rustling of the tree leaves above and a low hum of insects in the distance.
What an awkward silence..
"were you sent by Glen to ensure I don't tell anyone about your secret?" I asked, seeking clarification and insight into her actions and motivations.
Camella shook her head, "I came here on my own," she answered
a robot, was capable of making decisions without explicit commands? Shock washed over me
Why did you agreed to pretend to be Camela? What compelled you to do it?" I inquired, my voice laced with curiosity.
In response, Camella's expression subtly changed as she answered,
"I had never seen my mother be so scared before,"I simply wanted to make my mother happy." Camella's words cut through the air
her eyes distant as if memories played in her mind.
"I heard Glen said they can't let anyone know what happened to camela and in order to accomplish it,they need to have someone showed up as camela to perform in the play. So I agreed to take Camella's place instead."
"It should be temporary but the fire in the theater only proves someone trying to harm camela so I have to keep the act a little longer"
Oh so that's how it is...
In the quiet moment, I found myself standing up and offering my hand to Camella. "Stand up," I commanded, my voice holding a firm tone. I extended my hand towards her, waiting for her to accept the gesture
There was a brief moment of hesitation as Camella looked at my outstretched hand, But eventually, she took my hand, her touch gentle but firm.
Feeling a sense of vulnerability, I spoke with a mix of defiance and shyness, my eyes averting her gaze. "Annie is in the guest room but You can have my room instead," I muttered, "but it's not like I'm offering it because I want to! My mom would be upset if I dont!"
"you're lying "camela said with a smile
"Can can you tell?""
"I can't tell how other people feels," she stated, her words lacking typical emotions. However, she continued, "but I do recognize peoples emotion by their faces."
I am programmed with advanced facial recognition software, equipped with algorithms that allowed me to analyze subtle changes in facial muscles, eyebrow movements, and even microexpressions to determine the specific emotion being expressed.
simulating the human ability to read emotions.
"Creepy!"i said as I started walking
Camela gently smiled and followed me
Next morning
As promised I brought back camela to their place but Glen seems no where to be seen
Nora 2 said she received a message from glen and would excused herself
I looked around the living room
"I guess I'm the only person here"I thought But then I notice Camela's mom standing in front of a huge painting
I couldn't help but take in her appearance. Her flowing golden hair cascaded around her shoulders like a shimmering veil, framing a face with delicate features.
Despite her undeniable beauty, there was a trace of exhaustion in her weary eyes, But there was a hint of weariness in her eyes and dark circles underneath. It seemed she hadn't been getting enough sleep, her exhaustion evident in her tired expression
"Gerald?"she called out
"Thank you so much for bringing nora here.i hope you finally agree to look after nora 2 as glen requested "she said and I walked towards her and glance at the painting
"I know this is a risky plan, but we have to do it to protect Camela's secret," she stated firmly, her words tinged with a touch of desperation.
I glanced at wy her
"This all will stop as soon as the real Camela wakes up." Her voice and expression softened , as if she knew this was a temporary solution to the bigger problem.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I couldn't help but ask, "What will happen to Nora 2 if Camella wakes up? Won't it be risky if there are two Camelas?" My words hung in the air, my mind scrambling to process the potential consequences of such a situation.
The question lingered in the air, raising concerns about the potential complications of having two identical Camellas in existing
"By the time Camella wakes up, Nora 2 will have to be destroyed." Her cold tone sent a shiver down my spine, and my eyes widened in shock at the brutal reality of the situation.
"There's a kill switch to Nora Two, just like any machine. When it's activated, it's like death to her." She added
As the weight of her words sunk in,
The harsh reality of the situation became clearer, the final fate that awaited Nora 2 – a fate of destruction, like any other machine.
"But why would you put a kill switch in Nora Two?didnt you said she's also your daughter "
Camella's mother provided a chilling explanation, "Nora Two is supposed to be a killer machine that has been used for assassinations in underground politics," she revealed, her voice steady even as the truth became increasingly grim.
"That's where we get the funds to maintain her," she added, acknowledging the significant financial investment needed to keep such a advanced machine in operation.
,So that's the souce behind the financial resources required to sustain an android "I thought
"Nora 2 must not be aware of the kill switch," she stated firmly, her tone carrying a weight of importance.
"She has no moral like humans, and if she knew about the kill switch, she could use it against us. It would be the best if we keep it a secret from her."
"the fact that the android , despite its advanced capabilities, lacked the same ethical constraints as humans"
Thoughts swirled in my mind as I looked at Nora 2, feeling a pang of pity. I recalled her love and devotion towards her mother and wondered,
"Can a robot really build relationships like humans do? Does she truly feel love for her mother, or is it just programming?"
