Chapter 7:
Chronicles of the Iron Divide
The Shattered Moment
Setting:
At last, the Paradox Engine rises to be claimed either way in an unforgiving battle: a combat fight not for victory itself, but also for time as an outcome. Encompassing themselves with a mass temporal distortion granted by the power of the Chrono Legion, the impossible task given before the rebels now is one where stopping Elric from gaining the last piece only tops the iceberg-also there awaits dealing with Time fracturing as such.
Page 1-2:
Time bends in distorted, flickering flashes as the chapter opens. The rebels stumble to hold their footing as the Chrono Legion activates their time-warping suits. The very air around them seems to ripple like water, twisting their movements and disorienting them.
Ezra (yelling over the chaos):
"They've activated the time paradox! We need to get the final piece now!"
Liora, her mechanical arm charged with energy, attempts to push through the disorienting waves of time, her vision flickering between the past and present. Every moment feels stretched, as if time itself is breaking apart. She looks over at Elric, who stands calmly in the middle of the storm, as if controlling it.
Liora (grimacing):
"You think you can control time, Graves? You don't even understand it!"
Elric smirks, his voice smooth and confident as the world around them continues to warp.
Elric:
"It’s not about control, Ashcroft. It’s about shaping it. You, too, will see—soon enough."
Page 3-5:
The scene flickers between the fight and the broken moments in time, showing glimpses of the past and future colliding in odd flashes. At one moment, Liora is face to face with a younger version of herself, and at another, she sees a ruined cityscape-the potential future the Empire wants to create. The very fabric of her reality is fluid.
Liora: (struggling to focus)
"I have to keep going."
Kale, his face set in determination, fights off a group of Chrono Legion soldiers, his sword cutting through the air with precision despite the time distortions. He is in his element, his senses honed by years of experience.
Kale (to Liora):
"I’ll clear the way! Get to the shard!"
As Kale engages in battle, Liora and Draven push forward. Draven looks over at Liora, his expression hard but tinged with concern.
Draven:
"If we're going to do this, we need to act fast. The longer we're caught in this time-warp, the more we risk losing everything."
The final piece of the Paradox Engine pulses with a dangerous energy, just ahead. The ground beneath them shifts and distorts with every step, the once-clear path now filled with fracturing timelines.
Page 6-8:
The Chrono Legion soldiers, enhanced by their time-manipulating suits, become increasingly difficult to fight. One soldier suddenly disappears, only to reappear seconds later behind Liora, striking her from a different timeline. She staggers, but Kale is there in an instant, defending her.
Kale (fiercely):
"Stay focused! We’re not losing here!"
At that moment, Ezra appears from the shadows, his device beeping frantically.
Ezra:
"The facility's collapsing! We've triggered a fail-safe! The whole place is going to implode!"
Liora:
"No! We need to finish this-now!"
The team moves forward, pushing through the chaos, the broken timeline fragments shifting around them like ghosts from another reality. The sheer force of time cracking is beginning to overwhelm them.
Page 9-10:
As they reach the central chamber where the final piece of the Paradox Engine lies, Elric steps forward, his eyes locked onto Liora. The Chrono Legion soldiers stand ready, their time-warping suits whirring ominously. The tension is palpable.
Elric (calmly):
"You're out of time, Ashcroft. You've come this far, but you can't escape the inevitable. The Paradox Engine will be mine."
Liora stares him down, her voice a low growl of defiance.
Liora:
"You're wrong. You can't control time. You never could. It controls you."
With a roar of fury, Elric slams his fist into his time-manipulating suit, maxing it out. The room shakes; the world around them distorts further, flickering between past, present, and future. Time is unraveling exponentially.
Page 11-12:
In the mayhem, Liora spots an opportunity. While Elric is engrossed with trying to harness the paradox, she strikes, her mechanical arm aglow with energy. The final piece of the Paradox Engine lies just ahead—barely within her reach.
But as she dives for it, a Chrono Legion soldier is in her path. Time flips again and the soldier's replaced with another version of Elric-a younger one, from another timeline, the version of him that first began his rise to power.
Younger Elric:
"You can't win, Ashcroft. Time is already on my side."
For a moment, Liora hesitates, but then, with renewed resolve, she strikes at the soldier, breaking the timeline's hold on her. The time distortion begins to collapse, and the entire room shudders with energy.
Liora grabs the final piece, her fingers closing around it just as the facility's core begins to explode.
Liora (to Ezra, as she holds the piece up):
"It's done. We've got everything we need."
Page 13-14:
As the failsafe begins, sending shockwaves throughout the complex, the room begins to collapse, and it becomes time to get out. The final piece clutched in their grasp, the rebels race towards the exit just as the structure behind them bursts in on itself. Fire and dust cover the sky outside.
Ezra: (breathlessly)
"We did it. We got the pieces."
Of course, such a sweet victory does not go so unnoticed, as the Chrono Legion beings to rally itself.
Draven (turning back to the ruins):
"The Empire will come for us. They'll stop at nothing to take the Engine."
Liora determined:
"Then we fight. We fight for the future-for the world that hasn't been rewritten yet."
Page 15:
The final panel focuses on Liora's face. She looks exhausted, with a fierce determination etched on her face. The complete Paradox Engine piece has been clutched in her hand, its energies more powerful than ever before. The stakes have never been so high, and the battle is far from over.
Liora (thinking to herself):
"Time may be broken, but we still have a choice."
