Chapter 8:

Fractured Horizons

Chronicles of the Iron Divide

Fractured Horizons
Setting:
The battle leaves London in ruins through the explosive fallout, which the full potential of the Paradox Engine can cause-really tearing time asunder. The final piece belonged to the rebels, but the victory turns out to be costly, and now they race against the clock-not just to undo some of the damage that has been caused but also because, if the Empire acts quick enough, it'll be able to rewrite the course of history forever.

Page 1-2:
The chapter opens with the rebels standing amidst the desolate remains of the Imperial research facility. The city skyline in the distance is obscured by smoke, and a heavy silence has fallen over the group. The air is thick with tension and uncertainty. Liora clutches the Paradox Engine piece, her fingers trembling slightly as she feels its immense power.

Liora (thinking to herself):
"We have the pieces… but what if we’re too late?"

Kale, always the pragmatist, scans the horizon. His expression is dark.

Kale:
"The Empire won’t let this go. Graves will come after us with everything he’s got."

Draven stands nearby, his eyes focused on the ruins.

Draven:
"It's not just Graves we have to worry about. The Chrono Legion is more than just soldiers-they're weapons. And we've just pissed off the one person who can destroy us."

Ezra, holding his portable device, looks at the group, his face pale.

Ezra:
"We’re not even close to being out of danger. The Paradox Engine… it’s more unstable than we realized. If we don’t stabilize it, the ripples through time will get worse."

Liora looks down at the glowing shard, feeling the weight of their mission pressing heavily on her shoulders.

Liora:
"Then we fix it. We end this, once and for all."

Flashback sequence:
The following few pages are a flashback into how the Empire came into power. Originally, the Paradox Engine was a product of the scientists under the Empire, and Liora learns that the real capability of such a device is not in controlling time but rather remolding it completely. It comes out that for centuries, the Empire has been manipulating historical events, erasing anyone who dares to become a threat to their regime, including whole civilizations.

This sequence shows young Liora sneaking into an Imperial facility to steal the first prototype of the Engine, getting caught, and almost executed. Her escape ignites the rebellion, though, and she is soon assembled with her team to stop the Empire's control of time.

Voiceover (Liora):
"We never knew how deep their manipulation went… until we saw the Engine's true potential. They can erase history. Rewrite it. And if we don't stop them, we're just the next chapter in their twisted book."
Page 6-7:
Back in the present, Liora and her team retreat to an abandoned, hidden bunker on the outskirts of London, a place they had prepared for emergencies. The group works tirelessly to assess the Paradox Engine and understand how it can be used to undo the damage caused by the Empire.

Liora:
"We can't just destroy it. That's what Graves wants. We need to harness it, find a way to use its energy without tearing apart time."

Ezra sets up a series of makeshift devices, trying to stabilize the Engine. His face is drenched in sweat as he works.

Ezra:
"I can stabilize the energy flow for a while, but the moment we use it, we risk… well, anything. If this thing goes critical, we'll be erased from existence."

The room falls silent as everyone contemplates the gravity of their situation. The moment of action is drawing near.

Page 8-9:
Cut to Elric Graves.
In an Imperial command center, Elric stands before the Prime Technocrat, his face somber as he stares at a holographic map of London. His hands are clasped behind his back.

Elric (calmly):
"They have the final piece. They'll use it to try and stop us. But they can't comprehend the power they're toying with."

The Prime Technocrat, observing the data, nods in agreement.

Prime Technocrat:
"The rebellion has defied us for far too long. It's time to finish this. Send in the full force of the Chrono Legion. Let's end this war and rewrite history as it was meant to be."

Elric's lips curl into a cold smile.

Elric:
"Time has always been my ally. And soon, it will bend to my will."
Page 10-11:
Back in the bunker, Liora and her team finally activate the Paradox Engine. Brilliant light fills the room as energy surges from the Engine into the machinery. The air crackles with power, and time seems to bend in response. The team prepares themselves for the storm about to unleash.

Liora yells above the din:
"Steady! One chance!"

Suddenly, the ground shakes violently, and a flash of light fills the room. Time is being ripped apart around them as the Engine begins to resonate with unimaginable energy. The team is thrown to the ground as a rift opens in the air, revealing glimpses of alternate timelines, fractured realities, and future events that are still in motion.

Ezra (struggling to hold onto the device):
"This is it! We're stabilizing it! But we need more time!"

The team fights to keep their focus as the light becomes ever so brighter and more intense, the strain proving too much as the Paradox Engine starts to malfunction-the energy now spilling out of their control.

Page 12-13:
Cut to the invasion by the Chrono Legion.
As the time rift pulses, Elric and the full force of the Chrono Legion arrive at the location of the bunker. Their time-manipulating suits distort reality around them as they march forward, ready to crush the last resistance.

Elric (with a confident smile):
"It's over, Ashcroft. Time is mine."

Liora looks up from the chaos, her face determined as she stares at the rift.

Liora (to her team):
"We're not done yet. We end this here-now!"

With the Legion moving in, the final battle is bound to start. It is only in the power of the Paradox Engine that the last hope of the rebellion lies to change fortunes.

Page 14-15:
The final panel shows Liora and Elric facing off against each other, surrounded by the chaos of fractured timelines. The scene is split, showing flashes of multiple versions of Liora—each one fighting for a different version of the future.

Liora (thinking to herself):
"No matter what happens, we fight for the future we believe in."

To be continued…
