Chapter 22:
Synthetic Love
What had started as a magical journey, had now turned into a seemingly endless nightmare.
And in that moment of panic, I did the only thing I could think of - I turned and ran away from the crowd, leaving Camela behind
The sky was growing darker, the shadows of night slowly creeping in. The wind blew through my hair, but I paid it no mind. Instead, my eyes were fixed on my surroundings, desperately searching for any sign of N-2A
I couldn't shake the feeling that I had made a terrible mistake. "I shouldn't have left nora 2 behind"
"Nora 2!!" I desperately looked around, calling out her name and searching for any trace of her, but she was nowhere to be found.
The weight of my actions dawned on me, and a sense of despair filled my being. I thought I had lost her forever, and it was all my fault.
I made my way back to the familiar cherry blossom tree on the cliff side road near the park, hoping against hope that I would find Nora 2 there.
But as I arrived, there was no sign of her. The sky was getting darker, and the light was fading fast. I searched the tree and the surrounding area, calling out her name, but there was no answer.
I just stood there....
The once-tranquil surroundings were now shrouded in darkness, the shadows seemed to dance menacingly around me. The wind howled through the branches, rustling the leaves, and the once-beautiful cherry blossoms now looked as if they were wilting and dying.
I felt hopeless.....But despite the fear coursing through my veins, I dialed Glen's number. The line rang once, twice, before he picked up.
"Glen, Camela is here." My voice trembled as i spoke into the phone
"What do you mean?"
I looked desperate and distraught as I spoke, my voice trembling. "Glen, I can't find Nora 2 anywhere, and I'm worried about her. I think something happened to her. Camela is responsible for this, I know it. I just don't know what she did to her
"What do you mean, you can't find Nora 2? Where is she?!" His voice was stern and urgent, demanding an answer. "What has Camela done to her?"
"I was with Nora 2 earlier," I said, my voice shaking. "I left her for a moment, and when I came back, I thought it was her. But now...now I realize it wasn't her at all. It was the real Camela, She was up and conscious, like she had woken up from her coma."
"Seems like it,she's nowhere in her room"
"Please, Glen," I begged. "Please help me. I need your help."I pleaded with Glen, my voice shaky with desperation"
"I'm coming over," he said calm and reassuring. before the call dropped
i couldn't just stand by and do nothing. I needed to take matters into my own hands. I couldn't just wait around helplessly. I had to do something, anything to protect nora 2
I gathered all my remaining strength to walked back into the park, I pulled out my phone to reach out to Nora 2.
As I punched her number into my phone. suddenly, a sound echoed through the park. It was the unmistakable ringtone of a phone.
I froze in place, my heart racing as I followed the direction of the sound.
She must be around here somewhere
As I continued to follow the sound of the phone ring, I came to the edge of the park, where a cliff overlooked the ocean.
There I spotted a girl standing at the edge of the park. She was at the cliff edge, her silhouette outlined against the moonlit sky and ocean beyond. She was wearing a white dress that gently swayed in the breeze, as the moon and stars above cast a soft glow on the water, making it shimmer like a blanket of diamonds
Could it be her? Could it be Nora 2? My heart skipped a beat as I slowly approached her, my footsteps echoing in the silence of the night.
The girl's back was still to me, her hair dancing gently in the breeze.
The sound of the ocean in the background was the only thing that filled the air, besides the soft ringing of my phone still pressed to my ear.
As I approached her, I could hear her speaking softly "Isn't it beautiful?" she said, gesturing towards the sea.
"The way the ocean glitters and shines beneath the night sky, as if the stars are within reach. It's so peaceful and calming. I've always loved this park, with its breathtaking views from the cliff side. It feels like you could reach up and touch the stars, as if they're close enough to touch."
She turned towards me, a soft smile on her face. "You know, it's been a long time since I last heard a violin play so beautifully. It's amazing how something so complex and intricate can produce such beautiful and emotional sounds " Her words were soft, but there was a hint of melancholy in her voice, as if she was remembering something painful from the past.
The moment I dropped my phone, my eyes locked onto her face. The moonlight was enough to light her features, her eyes staring directly at me. It was Camela,
For a moment, we stood there in silence, the only sound the soft lapping of the waves against the shore.
"Where's Nora 2?" I asked, desperate for answers. But instead of answering, Camela simply smirked, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of satisfaction and mischief.
Camela's expression suddenly turned cold and bitter. "Do you know how it felt to have your mother create a robot who looks exactly like you? As a substitute ?"
"Do you have any idea what it's like to be replaced, to be considered disposable just because there's a better version of you?"
Why would you put Nora 2 through this ? What did she ever do to you?"
"I just wanted my mother's attention, but she was always too busy grieving for my sister. Instead, she created a robot that looked like her,to comfort her... It was like I didn't matter anymore""
"In this world,"
"everything and everyone is replaceable. Nothing is permanent, nothing holds meaning. From emotions to relationships, people seem disposable, and nothing holds meaning."
That's not true!I protest
You failed to protect Nora 2. A simple robot. What does that say about you?"
"..."I looked down....Tears streaming down my cheeks
Camela's expression darkened as she spoke, her eyes hardening. We're talking about a robot here, not a human. You might be crying over it, but it doesn't change the fact that it's just a machine."
"Atthe back of her neck there's a, rectangular-shaped device that can only be accessed by a specific code. Once activated, it will shut down all of her function
and guess what? I activated the kill switch. It was easy, really. One flick of a switch and I ended her existence completely.
"No matter how beautiful or meaningful it is,
Everything has to come to an end
I turned to Camela, "Why are you doing this?"
She just stood still, staring out at the sea "now that I'm back, her existence is completely irrelevant. She no longer serves any purpose"
