Chapter 8:

First engagement

Ring Fall Y2K

“Undying! Hold the front!” Captain Ward ordered as he caused The Oath to flip its Stick Shift sniper rifle back to a gun and take position slightly above, aiming over the newly deployed shield.

“Nomad! Waterfall! Kill the Fallen that are behind Undying!” Captain Ward’s voice echoed through the comms.

At first nothing happened. All of the drones now retreated to swirl between The Oath and Undying while Nomad was standing with his sword drawn.

All of them knew the fallen were there just out of sight as they heard their weird mumblings and ramblings. It almost sounded like a language, but the team all knew it was unintelligible gibberish, hearing the muttering from all around and echoing from the walls.

One of The Oath’s fifty stars moved its camera sharply.

“Up!” Captain ward said as he fired the first round of the fight toward the ceiling.

The bullet lit up with a red light that trailed behind it as it went through a skull lighting up a ceiling filled with yellow crystals and hungry eyes. Thery all looked vaguely like people only twisted beyond recognition

Before the body of the Fallen could even hit the ground Anya unleashed a massive barrage from her railgun toward the general direction red light trying to draw attention to herself.

The fallen quickly understood that hiding would not work any longer and all simultaneously kicked off the ceiling in a massive burst of speed. They fell at an angle and though many smashed against Undying’s shield some managed to get through.

Most of the ones who did get through found themselves in a collision course with the tip of a sword as Nomad stood his ground slashing at them with ridiculous speed.

While more of the yellow monstrosities fell from the ceiling, the ones on the ground clawed at the shield that was held by the ten-meter tall four-armed Mech, trying desperately to squeeze themselves between the cracks in the defense.

Captain ward dodged a bite attempt while switching his gun mid shot to a bat and drew a huge boxy pistol and started firing grenades out with a green flash of light. The sounds of metal hitting bone echoed through the spiral as the jellyfish tackled the speeding Fallen. And though there were more jellyfish, and they did fly at one hundred kilometers per hour, the yellow monsters were significantly faster.

They clawed and bit their way forward, tearing down many of the jellyfish as well as chunks of metal from the armor of Anya’s mech, as they were far too fast for her to hit with her huge hammer.

“Careful! There are purple ones here too. Ill send you all their location” Kaya said as she sent another current through a chain of her jellyfish electrocuting a huge group of Fallen Devourers, preventing them from reaching her and William.

And there they were. Now marked by the drones with lasers, the purple eyed Fallen were visible and there were only about fifty of them. All covered with small purple crystals popping from their flesh at random, twisting it into an unrecognizable mess of grey and purple.

The only thing they had in common was that they all had their eyes completely replaced by a purple crystal of sort, and while some of their eye looked like geodes others had horrendous spikes growing from them or even chunks of crystal replacing the eye socket completely.

The purple ones seemed to babble and ramble each in a different dialect of gibberish but that seemed to direct the yellow devourers somehow.

The yellow ones started to dodge Nomads attacks and surround him in attempts to bite the elusive fighter. They all seemed to react faster but that was not what scared William.

Their skin turned droopier and loose while it gained a darker shade of gray.

While Ward was focused on that change for a split second, noticing Nomads sword snag on the loose skin, one of the yellow bastards used all four of his limbs to shoot himself forward. Using his yellow crystalline back spikes as a weapon it impaled itself in The Oath’s leg and destroyed the armor on the calf before plopping to the ground.

The rest of the monsters reacted immediately, and all transitioned to a four-legged stance, snapping their bones to a more efficient position and started using their body as a projectile. “Kill the purple ones as fast as you can!” Captain Ward ordered as fast as he could while using the grenades as a way to group the Fallen together.

The small moment the Devourers took to morph was all Undying needed to send multiple shots of a hidden nail gun in her Mechs two free arms and pin most the now four legend monsters around her to the ground, even if momentarily.

“We have trouble” Kaya said with some panic as Waterfall slid up a metallic beam sending three jellyfish linked together in a chain and passed a current of lightning between them, frying the two Yellow Fallen that tried to get to her.

They looked like people, some of them with fancy evening outfits or even suits and fancy dresses but all had deformed jaws with yellow crystals covering their bloody mouths and backs.

“They are climbing the building! About one hundred of them.” Kaya said

“Mon Frere, I’m having a harder time cutting them. They feel like rubber. Nomad requesting to go all out.” Louis’s voice rang through the chat with a hint of joy rearing its head.

“Send them to the maker.” Captain Ward replied, “already predicting this, while cracking skulls with his bat and firing grenades all over.

“Avec plaisir! Viva le France!” Louis said as he smacked a big button and all the engines on Nomads frame started to glow.
