Chapter 13:

Big Brother to the rescue

Cherry: A Blossom Anew

“All of my arrows were destroyed. It won’t happen this time.”

Kel touched Apollo's shoulder. “Let’s stop this please, Apollo.”

Gazing back, all the blood portals faded out. "Alright, only for today. However, tomorrow we're going after them." A fiery chill feeling shot through everyone's essence.

High pitch ringing blasted Pai and Sola’s ears. “GRRRRRRRR!” Bombast cried from space, its essence trails light-years away.

“Whoa, now what’s this shit?” said Pai.

“Did you feel that also? My ears are ringing from this essence.”

"That's some wretched power, but we already know that, right, Sola?"

Apollo shot an arrow into the sky, afterward staying static. It pulsed waves of red and blue around it. "I need this to build power overnight and destroy whatever the fuck is coming."

"How is that power even possible?" said Kel.

“Two birds with one stone. I'll clean them all at once.”

"Hey, get some sleep tonight, tomorrow’s gonna be a long day. We need to be well prepared.” Kel flew her way home. I hope everyone else is alright, I miss you guys.

"I have to give this a lot of essence and blow everyone away." Apollo sighed, casting an arrow with his hand, it took him off into the sky. Brother, I promise, after this, you can rest forever in peace. Just give me some more time.

“Pai, have you seen yourself, like how you look right now?”

“No, why is something wrong?” Through his front camera, essence blurred Pai’s sought marking. “Wow, I look cool as hell!”

“That’s the holy ring helping you manifest all your essence together,” informed Sola.

“Yeah, that's what Danika was telling me, and something about Warlocks and Enchanters?” Mr. Z looked into the rearview mirror, and the veins on Sola’s head thickened. "I’ll fucking spread their guts on the ground."

Mr. Z sighs. “Never thought I would hear that again.”

“Who are they,” asked Taro.

“Enemies, nothing more, probably the strongest and most corrupt ones, seeking Nova. They’re the reason…Never mind.”

His sought marking disappeared, as his feather-style sword formed into the holy ring. “I can get used to this.” Pai extended the sword repeatedly; his sought marking appeared ear to ear, while his pupils bled pink. Red essence warmed the car.

"Sola, I don't know what happened between you and those people; however, I know one thing; I got your back. Thanks for keeping me and my family safe. I'll return the favor a thousand times for you,” promised Pai.

Sola smirked, "I'll appreciate it, thank you."

"We're closing the distance on my old bird; however, I know it'll need some fixing up for takeoff. For the time being, don't waste too much energy before that thing comes. If we don't, our journey to Nova ends early."

"We'll be fine. I think we've fought enough for the day. Dad, there's no way our times are done so fast. We're just getting started. Isn't that right, everyone?"

Sola’s long hair wrapped Pai’s shoulder like a scarf; she and Pai slept their dreams away. “It was a lovely speech, son. Who knows? Maybe you could become a pristine one day.”

“What the hell is that?”

“Just another can of worms.”

I haven't felt like this for some time, even after finding new strength. I thought we could make the universe shift at our command. Being together all the time made me think we were unstoppable. Words are cheap, only our actions could face Bombast…

“Sir! Sir the essence readings are off the charts. Are you seeing the graphs?” said a sweaty man, falling into an office room

"Why don't you take a seat?" replied the man with shaggy blonde hair, his black suit contrasting against his white skin. The anxious man sat down, and with a scar across his nose and sleep-deprived purple eyes, he asked, "Why do we exist?"

"To protect and stop corruption," he nervously answered.

"Exactly, that's what we do." Turning around, dark purple essence flowed from him. "Boss?"

"Now, raise up. Prepare all units to be sent out, we're leaving at fifteen hundred."

"Yes, sir." He rushed out of the office, as his boss sat down with a sigh, pushing his golden hair back. "Finally, I can play the newest edition. I've been damn busy all day. Today's been a drag." Just then, Blake burst through the doors, slamming them against the wall.

“Vanula! I’m coming with you, and there’s nothing you can say to change my mind.”

“Dammit, stop calling me that. It's the boss here,” he insisted.

“Well, that is your name and we’re family.”

“Yeah, yeah you can come, let me just play my game while I can.”

Pulling his collar, Blake dragged Vanula across the floor. "Blake, why are you so damn antsy? I just wanna game a little."

"No, we're leaving now,” Blake howled.

"The roles should be reversed; I'm the older sibling here. This isn't fair," cried Vanula.

“There they go again, some things just don’t change.”

“Yeah, thanks to them both; we’ve come a long way. Having Vanula, one of the strongest in the star system, comes with a price. Let’s do our part and support our boss to the end,” said a soldier.

"Wait! Blake, I left my game in the office. Turn around, please!"

The last flat tire barely made it to the vast country farm. "Everyone wake up, we made it to the ship," said Mr. Z. Every tire popped safely stopping. A little white house nearby awaited them, haystacks piled inside an old rusty barn in the back. Green lakes surrounded the south end of the farm.

Walking inside, the barn was barely holding itself up, cobwebs seeming to hold everything together. A spaceship awaited them inside, dust rolling with the blue and yellow peeling tint.

"Dad, are you sure this is what we're looking for?"

"Yeah, I know she needs some fixing up. I'm not the best mechanic. Still, I'll do my best. Why don't you all scout out the area? We have to prepare ourselves for what's coming."

Pai, Sola, and Taro scouted around the farm. Hundreds of bugs glided upon the murky lake. "Sola, why is he being called king?"

"Well, Danika is the main one calling him that; however, yes, he could become one. I could also become a queen."

"Why? Is it some kind of royalty bloodline or maybe a gift?"

"That's actually what it is, a gift. Our Seekers grant us the ability to obtain Nova. Giving people the gift to create life, cause death, chaos can be summoned by the ruler's hand."

Light rain dripped into murky pond water. “Is Nova really that powerful?” “Anything powerful comes with some type of loss,” telled Sola,

“Then why chase this power,” wondered Taro.

“We’re all selfish at the end of the day. We want something we can’t have or someone we once had, and I want that power for my own selfish reasons.”

“What have you lost, Sola?” Shooting stars broke at light speed above the farm. “My people, my home, my happiest days, and I didn’t realize it was the best of times. They robbed everything from me!” Gold essence hugged her.

“Sola,” whispered Pai, clutching his fist.

“My whole history was erased because they wanted Nova so much. I never really liked being a princess, however, that doesn’t mean I’ll turn my back on my people and culture. I’ll use Nova to turn them into dust,” said Sola.

Pai clenched Sola’s shoulder. “Let’s destroy Nova,” Pai suggested

“You can't be serious,” laughed the princess.

“I’m dead serious. Isn’t this what caused you the most pain?”

“Pai, our lives really changed route quickly. Honestly, I kinda knew something about our family was out of the ordinary. It's why Dad trained us since mom passed away. We were preparing for this life, and we didn’t even notice. I’m thankful we went through the pain to get here.”

"Sola, you’re with us now. That pain you were feeling, don't think I won’t take some of it away for you, it’s my choice." Taro nodded, and Sola swiped a falling tear. "You've been alone for too long. Don't worry, we are here now. Sorry for the wait."

“Don’t sweat it, you came at the perfect time.” They embraced each other. “Damn, what am I gonna do with you both,” smiled Taro. Gazing up, Pai’s sought mark appeared on his face.

"That thing was getting closer, it would reach here by morning."

“Sola wiped her face clean. I’ll prepare myself for the battle, and slow it from crashing into the planet. I must gather plenty of essence to prevent the worst from happening,” said Sola.

Solid fifty-year-old tree branches hung over them. Holding both hands out, tiny little stars formed around the sought girl. "Listen, guys, for the time being, I'll be sitting here waiting for Bombast. This barrier must be perfect, or it'll break easily, and I can sense our little Robinhood making their way for us. Go rest up, I'll be fine here."
