Chapter 48: The Council's Reach

Shadows Ascend

he next day, they made their way to an underground city known to house some of the most secretive factions that had opposed the Eclipse. Rumors spoke of ancient allies, still hidden, who might have answers to the prophecy’s cryptic message.

The city was a labyrinth of stone and shadow, winding tunnels leading to hidden chambers filled with whispers of forgotten battles. Zeryn could feel the weight of the past pressing down on her, as though the walls themselves had memories of the wars fought here long ago.

Inside one of these chambers, they met an old scholar, a figure cloaked in robes of deep purple. His eyes were sharp, though his movements slow, and the air around him carried a sense of ancient wisdom.

"You seek answers," he said, his voice soft yet commanding. "But the questions you ask may be beyond your understanding."

Zeryn stepped forward, her determination clear. "We need to know everything about the prophecy. About what’s coming."

The scholar studied her for a moment before speaking again. "The shadow you wield is not just a power, it is a legacy. You are part of an ancient line, one that has been dormant for centuries. The Council knows this, and they have been waiting for you."

The green-eyed figure glanced at Zeryn, concern evident in their gaze. "How do we stop them?"

The scholar’s eyes darkened. "Stopping them will not be so simple. The Council’s influence stretches far beyond what you can see. They have their eyes on the key that binds the shadow and the light."

Zeryn's heart skipped a beat. "What is the key?"

The scholar shook his head. "That is the question you must answer for yourself. But be warned—choosing the wrong path will destroy everything you know."
