Chapter 43:
Shadows Ascend
The night had never felt so cold. Zeryn stood at the edge of the darkened forest, the shadows around her moving in sync with her every thought. The prophecy weighed heavily on her mind—the shadow and the light are bound to you. What did it mean for her? And more importantly, how would it affect the ones she cared about?
The green-eyed figure stood beside her, their expression unreadable. "We need to decide what to do next. The leader’s betrayal... it changes everything."
Zeryn’s hands clenched into fists. She had once seen him as their guide, their protector, but now he was just another enemy. "We’ll find him," she said, her voice colder than she intended. "He’s the key to understanding all of this."
The green-eyed figure nodded. "But we can’t do it alone. We need to form alliances with the other factions—those who still fight against the remnants of the Eclipse."
Zeryn turned to face them, her gaze intense. "And who can we trust now? The leader was a part of the Council all along. How can we know anyone is truly on our side?"
The figure hesitated, then placed a hand on her shoulder. "I know it’s hard. But the battle isn’t over. We need to stop the Council before they can complete their plans."
Zeryn took a deep breath, her resolve hardening. "We won’t stop until it’s finished. But first, we need to uncover everything—the prophecy, the Council’s true intentions, and how to control what’s inside me."
