Chapter 16:
To the day when I will finally look forward to Tomorrow
He was just a normal man, father of 2 kids, driving home from work on a day he should have had off.
He was actually in a pretty bad mood at that moment. Some may call it "road rage," but for him it was just another normal commute.
"Come on! The road is made for you to drive on it!"
Yup, probably something he used to say at least 3 times a week.
When it comes to working hours, he was past the point of having a fixed schedule. That meant he would come home early pretty often, but it also meant there would be days where just staying in front of the TV for hours wasn't an option.
No need to say anything more at this point. It was a bad day.
On such a bad day, the last thing he wanted was for the car behind him to blow up and vaporize everything around it, but that somehow ended up happening.
So there he was now, in the middle of an open field surrounded by mountains. And all he could say was:
"What the *redacted*..."
...
Living off of what nature offers you wasn't hard for him. He had a pretty rough childhood that, combined with a love for nature, resulted in a pretty well-developed survival instinct.
The only problem was that, as the head of the family, his duty was not to survive but to make sure everyone was somewhere safe. And so he went on a search mission.
With nobody there to give him a hint, it took him a long time to realize he was in a familiar place. But when he did, it only took him a couple of days to make his way back home.
Maybe tomorrow, I will finally find you.
His stoic look never really changed, but as he was getting closer to the place where a city was supposed to be, the fact he was seeing nothing of the sort planted a seed of despair deep within his heart.
That's when he bumped his forehead on something he couldn't see. Although, if you think about it from a physical point of view, the nose that was in the way has to have gotten broken for the forehead to even reach the invisible field.
It seemed like that was also a bad day.
...
After going through the procedures to enter the city, he took a shower and went straight home. More exactly, to the marble block where he was told his home should be.
It has been a good couple of weeks since the events that took him to the future, but his heart didn't flutter for 1 second when he was in front of the door.
After all, there is no way the door would look the exact same if nobody lives here.
He opens the door slowly.
Woman: "It took you long enough."
"Oh, shut up. You seem to be pretty relaxed yourself!"
Of course it was an argument, that's what my parents were the best at.
If I were there at that moment, I would have probably started laughing and cracking some bad jokes at how quickly they ruined the moment.
Too bad luck would never allow for such a happy reunion.
