Chapter 4:

A Lone Figure

Vox Collecta

Under the hot sweltering sun, a lone figure walked among the citys corpse. From a distance, everything seemed normal, but a closer inspection offered a different narrative. Black combat boots, followed by light brown cargo pants, strapped on each leg was a pistol and a dagger each. It only got more absurd from here onwards, a bulletproof vest, covered by what seemed to be a jacket, two belts wrapped around his waist, both holding up six containers, three on the right and three on the left, possibly filled with ammunition. On his back, he sported a sniper rifle and one normal military grade rifle, both attached to him by yet another belt. Which featured another two small containers to the front. He seemed to be in his early twenties, but it was hard to say for sure as a gas mask covered the bottom of his face, leaving only his eyes visible. His eyes however would not offer a better guess to his age, a corpse would have brighter eyes than the ones he had.

He walked slowly, his attachments swaying lightly with each step. Some sort of gas would occasionally be expelled from his mouthpiece, a pure white colored gas, which would diffuse into the air only seconds later. After only a few minutes, the man came to a stop, a complete halt, as if frozen in time. Only after some time had passed did he crane his neck upwards and then rotate it to get a good view of the surrounding area, a remnant of the past with long towers barely standing. The man crouched, almost like a video game character, and then brought the sniper rifle hanging on his back to the side and then into his hands. He seemed to be preparing to shoot, but what? Had something caught his eye? The man moved his hands swiftly, in a robotic manner, he must have done this thousands of times before given how efficient the movements were. In mere seconds, the Sniper rifle had been loaded and was ready to shoot. The lone figure took one last look upwards and then his sniper rifle followed suite. Upon closer inspection to the angle of his sniper rifle, it would seem he was looking towards the top of one of the now barely standing towers. What was on the tower that caught his eye? Oh, the answer to that is quite simple. It was me, seconds before I died.
