Chapter 300:
En Passant Grandmaster
As the commentators returned from commercial break, they were flooded by comments ordering them to show the game between Iori and Indira. They obliged, but were unable to see what all the fuss was about.
"Looks like Iori played a Důras gambit, that's e4, f5. E captures f5 and knight f6 followed along with c3, d5, g4, h5, f3, h captures g4, f captures g4, and knight c6 have all been played... I get it, the eval bar's in Iori's favor, but believe it or not, the Důras gambit, despite it's dubiousness, does have like a 50% win rate for Black," Laila growled.
The comments however didn't cease, demanding they "show live footage of the board".
"What do you mean, chat? We're showing you live footage, unless you mean from the playing hall?"
A flood of "Yes" insured, causing Laila to raise an eyebrow, but nonetheless pull up some camera footage, and regretted it.
"Wh- WHY THE HELL IS SHE NAKED!?"
As a result of getting drenched thanks to a break in the cieling, Iori had stripped to nothing but her undergarments as arbiters provided her with a warm blanket. Her hair was also still wet, but she was relishing in her soggy state as it was bound to increase views.
"Who'd have thought that dubious Důras would soak you so," Indira thought as she moved her pawn to d4.
"Those damn commentators better be zooming in on my soggy bra! The only reason I'm still wearing it along with my panties is so they won't get age-restricted, so they better honor their commitment and keep the cameras on me!" Iori thought as she moved her pawn to e6.
Indira meanwhile continued her attack by moving her pawn to g5, sending Iori's knight to e4. She followed up with bishop to b5, which Iori countered by simply moving her bishop to d6. This caused Indira to focus her attention elsewhere and capture the pawn at e6 with her f-pawn.
"Well, lol, thanks for the free win," Iori thought as she captured the pawn at e6 with her bishop.
Indeed, Iori was most certainly in a winning position, more so after Indira moved her queen to f3. Iori's queen to d7 ploy did slightly decrease her advantage, but Indira's bishop to a4 play brought it right back up.
"Ironic that I got soaked, since I'm winning this," Iori thought as she moved her bishop to g4.
Indira frowned and moved her queen to g2, but only became more flustered after Iori moved her queen to e6. "That is bad. The knight moves, boom! I'm in all kinds of check. I think we need to stop that," she thought as she moved her knight to e2.
"That ain't gonna stop me. Now frown some more! You're facing the team you put in top tier!" Iori gleefully thought as she moved her knight to g3.
Indira shook her head in frustration and slid her rook to g1, but it didn't matter as Iori's focus was on capturing the knight at e2 with her bishop. Indira let out an audible sigh and moved her queen to f2 before sinking her hand into her face. She knew rook captures h2 was coming next, and mate somewhere down the line as well. But she could at least get one check in.
"Check, I won't resign. I have some pride you know," Indira chuckled as she captured the knight at c6 with her bishop.
"Perfect, more sexy screentime for me," Iori thought as she captured the bishop at c6 with her b-pawn.
Indira meekly smiled and moved her queen to e3. With Saloni down and he likely to fall next, India's chances of winning were going down the drain. Mimoko and Azenira were also doing well, making a perfect sweep possible.
"I hope we don't get swept. That would be humiliating," she thought as Iori captured the queen at e3 with her queen.
Indira promptly captured said queen with her bishop, but the queen trade did little to delay the mate. Next came a queen's side castle from Iori, followed by pawn to c4 from Indira. Then after bishop g4, Indira hastened her demise by moving her pawn to c5.
Iori gleefully slid her rook to e8, prompting Indira to capture the knight at g3 with her rook.
"Taking my horses down with ya? Sheesh, give the soggy girl a break. Check!" Iori snickered as she captured the rook at g3 with her bishop, forcing Indira's king to f1.
Next she captured the bishop at e3 with her rook, prompting Indira to mount one last-ditch counterattack in the form of knight c3, but it was nothing but smoke and mirrors as Iori knew what she was doing and moved her bishop to f2.
"Sorry girls, but I'm out. If we lose, we lose, just don't get swept, OK," Indira thought as she moved her pawn to b4.
"Checkmate! Now time to ditch the soggy panties and bra!" Iori exclaimed as she slammed her bishop down on h3, winning the game.
Yet before she could strip live, the cameras cut out. However, everyone nearby was able to catch a glance, causing many in the chat to wish those people had been them.
"Iori-chan, do TRY to show decorum," Mimoko thought as she moved her queen to c2.
Following the incident, play at the entire table had been suspended as even though Iori was the only one to get soaked, protocol demanded it be so. As such, Mimoko had taken the chance to wander around, though she hadn't been able to catch the men's match in time before it ended.
Ishika had though and as a result, had confidence in the women's team's chances, until Indira just lost. Now drawing was the best India could manage, but only if both Mona and Ishika won, which looked easier said than done.
"Dammit, now I HAVE to win. And this is a drawish position, dammit!" Ishika thought as she moved her pawn to b5.
Mimoko remained calm and moved her pawn to b3 as Ishika became visibly more frustrated and moved her b-knight to d7. "Seems like her teammates losses are getting to her. I wish we could have more fun, but I get it; we're representing our countries here. There's a lot at stake," Mimoko thought as she captured the pawn at c4 with her b-pawn.
Ishika immediately pushed her pawn to b4, sending Mimoko's knight back to it's starting square of b1. This caused Ishika to grit her teeth even harder as she slammed her pawn down on c5.
"She's starting to get reckless... Poor thing," Mimoko somberly thought as she moved her pawn to a3.
Daria meanwhile watched as Ishika moved her rook to b8. "Mimoko... Chess is a cutthroat sport. The reason I didn't push you to take it up at such a young age is because I feared you might grow to hate it if you did. At least now that you're an adult, you've got a childhood of good memories associated with chess. But since you've now chosen to play professionally, you'll need to be merciless, no matter who you're playing. Especially if you're playing in a team event," she thought.
