Chapter 5:

September 1st, After School – Part 2

Sound Of The Future

I’m outside the band room right now. Maybe if things go wrong, I’ll pull out my new catchphrase. I steel my resolve, and pop open the door. I give a loud and exaggerated yawn as I enter the room. The girls are nowhere to be found, but their tablets are lying on the stage. Amazing. I go over to take a closer look aaaaaaand they barely did anything. Figures. Well, I’m surprised I managed to get anything from them at all. Let’s see here.

Mira’s tablet has a few rows of ‘I will not disrupt class by sitting at Mr. Blacklead’s desk,’ followed by a crude sketch of what seems to be Mira standing on a stage. I’ll take it.

Next, we’ve got Victoria. Wow. Exactly one hundred lines of ‘I will not disrupt class by making my supremacy clear to Mr. Blacklead.’ I don’t think I’ll ever understand how calling me a peasant and getting thrown out of class illustrates supremacy, but hey, to each their own.

Helen’s got exactly five lines written down, each reading ‘I will not disrupt class by handing handwritten notes to Mr. Blacklead.’ C minus.

June’s up next. Hers is kind of a package deal, since she and Priscilla are in the same class period. Let’s see here… ‘I will not disrupt class by fighting with Priscilla Asspoint in front of Mr. Blacklead,’ in big letters. One line. Incredible. That’s definitely going to help her case.

Priscilla time. Well, it would be Priscilla time if my mind didn’t automatically blank out the myriads of heinous slurs that she directed at June. That’s a straight up cognitohazard. I’d probably be lead I mean dead if I looked at that concentrated cruelty for too long.

I guess I’ll wait here until they get back. Apparently, before I made them write their letters of repentance, they were going to hold a meeting and start going over their agenda for the first round of prelims. Looks like they’re against Super Hunter High School.

I hear some shuffling outside, so I make sure to sit cross legged in the middle of the stage. I prop my chin up using my arm and lean forward. I have the urge to assert myself, and frankly, I think I look pretty cool right now. As the five girls step in, I hope that my commanding presence will get them to answer for their half-assed fulfillment of their punishment. It absolutely doesn’t. Yeah, this was a terrible idea. June and Priscilla were squabbling as they came in, but they just stopped and gave me this Look along with the others.

Mira, shocked: “Oh.”

She dropped the heart noise. At least she said something. Victoria doesn’t even say anything. She just turns around.

Helen, disappointed in my life choices: “I’m sorry.”

June, with disdain: “Ew.”

Priscilla, with disdain: “Ew.”

I’m sweating. I’ll never sleep soundly again. Every time I close my eyes, I’ll remember this moment. I’m done trying to be the main character of my life. I want to turn into lead. I get off the stage, and shuffle over to a corner, where I can try my best to replenish my lost aura. It won’t happen, but at least I can do my due diligence as a club advisor and listen in on the meeting.

Mira, getting back on track. “Okee! That was terrible, but let’s get back on track! ❤”

Victoria, haughtily: “Hah! Since when were you in charge, Asphodel?”

Mira, aggressively: “Since we all decided it, like, right before we came in here? ❤”

Helen, timidly: “Can you guys stop fighting? Please.”

Mira: “Thank you, Helen. It would be nice if we stopped fighting. ❤”

Victoria: “Absolutely not, wench. The conductor is me.”

Priscilla, interjecting: “Fuck you, Victoria! Honestly! Mira’s right!”

June, piggybacking off Priscilla’s statement: “The bitch speaks the truth.”

Priscilla just let out a guttural growl towards June. If I could move my body, I would probably call animal control. Mira’s just standing there while they all fight with each other. I don’t think that this is a healthy team dynamic, like, at all. They seriously need some mediation. As much as I dislike the Asphodel girl, she does seem to have a handle on the whole group. Victoria’s the only one there who’s opposed to Mira being the leader, which makes sense given her personality. Weirdly, I get the impression that Priscilla and June are actually friendlier towards each other than they believe. I’ve never seen that kind of relationship in my life, and I don’t really want to in the future. Helen seems more resilient than she lets on, so I’m not entirely convinced that she’s just there to do whatever Mira says. Speaking of Mira, she just pointed at me. They’re all looking at me now.

Mira, smirking: “If we can’t figure it out together, how about we ask Mr. Blacklead over here to decide? ❤”

Mr. Blacklead doesn’t want to.

Me: “What exactly am I deciding?”

Mira: “Who’s going to be our conductor, of course. ❤”

I throw my hands up in the air.

Me: “Let me flip a five sided coin.”

Victoria: “You know who to pick, peasant.”

Me: “Yeah, I definitely know who to pick now.”

I point at Mira.

Me: “Wow, Mira’s your conductor, leader, whatever. Color me surprised. Round of applause for Mira.”

Mira, smiling: “Pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Blacklead! ❤”

The girls stop looking at me and start arguing amongst themselves again. I’d do something to stop it, but I’m too exhausted. It’s been a long day. Anyways, I have a feeling that Mira would be in charge even if I wasn’t here. This arrangement of crazy high school girls is too caustic to just be random. The letters that they wrote must have also been planned by one of them. I’ve only known her for less than a day, but it looks like Mira is the only one here who would come up with a plot like that. I’d better keep an eye on her. As these thoughts linger in my mind, I drift off to sleep.

By the time I wake up, the girls are gone. It’s 6 o’clock in the evening. I hope for my sake that these kids will be easier to handle in the future.
