Chapter 9

At one sunny afternoon..

"hey bro, thanks for accompanying me today to the mall." rena said

They were now walking along the city, where they were going back home, along with a few things they bought, including some groceries.

"its no problem. After hearing what happened recently to your friend, i just couldnt stand idly." his big brother, kent flora, said

"even i had thought that if no one would--" kent said before she saw that kent was stabbed behind.

But before she could ever say anything, she was chlorophormed by another, where they took her to the dark alleyway.

Meanwhile, as leo and ruby was passing by..

"ah.. Im bored." ruby said as they walk from buying some groceries

"you know, if you say something like that, it might come to you one way or another." leo said

"the thing about what you said bro? That would become true? How?" ruby said

"its called karma, and i dont really know how. Like everybody would say, only god knows." leo said before they noticed a crowd gathering

"lets take a look bro!" ruby said, before she goes into the crowd

"wait! Ugh.. Here we go again." leo said, as he also goes into the crowd

"please help me!" said kent, lying on the road, soaked in blood

"tch! Someone call the ambulance! Now!" leo shouted to the crowd, which was only staring at the situation

"wait! Please help me!" kent said, struggling to sit up

"you need to press that wound sir! To stop the bleeding!" leo said, as he kneels down to try and help him

"no! My sister! They have her!" kent said, as he now pressed his wound

"whats the name of you sister? And where did they take her?" leo said, as he has a bad feeling about it

"rena, rena flora.. Ugh.. They took her over there." kent said, struggling, as he points towards the dark alley right behind them

"tch! Ruby! Call the police as well! Now!" leo said, before he rushed towards the alleyway

"bro!" ruby shouted to him, but was too late. "go get em bro!" she shouted as a cheer for him

Leo then ran through the alley, where he scanned the alley while he ran, and found a metal bar. He grabbed the metal bar along the way, and ran to the other side of the alley, to find a highway. There, he scanned left and right, to see at the left side, some people who was carrying a girl, and on the run. While all the other people paid no heed on them. Without further thought, leo ran towards those people, while avoiding the people. Which he quickly catched up to those people, and charged into the person holding rena, while picking her up from the shoulder of the thug.

"wha--" the thugs said, after noticing the events unfolding

After picking rena up, leo then ran the opposite way to escape from them, all while holding rena in his arms.

"after that guy!" a thug said, before they all also ran after leo

As the thugs went after leo, leo ran so fast towards the nearest police outpost, before he slows down to ask for help from them.

"ugh.. What happened?" rena said, as she slowly wakes up at a bed, with leo right beside her. "whoa! Leo?!" she said, surprised

As she examined her surroundings, she was now inside a parked ambulance.

"you are safe now rena, dont worry." leo said, sitting beside her

"wh-what happened to my brother?! His name is kent!" rena said, as she just remembered and was trying to sit up straight

"hes now at the hospital, being operated for his wound." leo said

"what?! I have to go there! Now!" rena said, trying to get out of the bed

"we just finished with the questions, so we can now go to that hospital. Please lie down for now, as we will go in a moment." leo said, calming her down

"really?" rena said, slowly calming down

"yes. They are currently preparing to go." leo said, before her tears fell down as she lies down again

"i cant believe what i have been through." rena said, crying

"are we ready to go sir?" leo said to the passing emergency guy

"yes. And it seems that a ruby rivera is also present there." the guy said before he left

"good, she really knows what to do." leo said, relieved

"whose ruby?" rena said, slightly calming down

"my lil sister. Anyways, it seems that we are now going to that hospital." leo said

"dont leave me ok?" rena said, as she reaches out to leo

"i wont, i promise." leo said, as he grabs her hand with a smile, and held her cheek with the other

After some time, they are now at the hospital..

"can you walk now rena?" leo said, as he assists her

"yes, i can. Lets go, we have no time to lose." rena said, as leo agrees

They then ran to the emergency room, where kent is being operated on for his injuries.

"hey ruby, you alright?" leo said, as he spotted her on the waiting area

"yeah.. Anyways, is this her?" ruby said as leo agrees

"my name is rena flora, pleased to meet you." rena said as she bowed.

"im leos sister, cleo ruby rivera." ruby said as she bowed also in response

"in any case, hows her brother?" leo said

"hes still being operated." ruby said, as she faces to the ER

By then, renas parents then came.

"rena!" they both shouted as they ran, before they embraced her

"how is your brother?" renji flora, the father, said to her

"hes still there." rena said, as she faces the ER

"who could have really done all this?" sammy flora, the mother, said

"better question maam is, who is really so mad at you, that they want them both dead or alive." leo said

"and who are you?" renji said, as both of them are now cautious

"hes the one dad, mom.. Hes leo." rena said, now blushing

"oh? Hes the one huh?" sammy said, examining him while hes a bit confused

"and i suppose that you saved my daughter too? Is that right?" renji said

"yes sir, i did." leo said, seriously. "in any case, who would you really think may havs done all this?" he said, changing the topic

"i may have my theory about all this, though i didnt think that they would resort to this tactic." renji said, as sammy agrees

"renji, its maybe time that we will decline the case." sammy said, as he agreed

"yes, maybe its time. For the safety of our children." renji said, as both of them looked so sad

"i take it that you are lawyers?" leo said, curious

"yes, we both are. And i was handling a case which is also against someone, someone big in the industry." renji said

“but renji, we must have some kind of closure for this. I just cant accept us going down like this.” sammy said

“maam, I think that sometimes, its better to accept what you cant do. After all: with great power comes with great responsibility and sacrifice.” leo said, which surprised them

“are you really still a 13 year old?” sammy said, curious, as leo didn’t answer

“he gets that a lot.” ruby said, as shes staring at her watch

“in any case, its clear what we should do. Wait for the right time.” renji said, seriously

“i suppose you are right, and leo as well.” sammy said, accepting facts

“can you tell us then, on what really happened?” renji said, which leo agrees

With that, leo and rena then tells them on the series of events..

“i don’t really know what to think.” sammy said, as they all now have sat down to listen

“i didn’t really think that hammer corporation would resort to such tactics. I have heard rumors, but didn’t really believe them, until now.” renji said

“in any case, you might need to be ready to file a case at the police station at any time. If ever that company ever comes back.” leo said

“alright. If ever something happens, please do call us. We will be there for you.” renji said, as they both hand their business cards to leo

As leo was about to thank them, the lights at the ER turned off.

“who is the legal guardian of the boy?” the doctor said, as he washes his hands at the faucet near them

“we are doc.” renji and sammy approached

“i think your son is--”
