Chapter 21:
mission outcome: unclear_
Fuyuki pretended like he didn’t notice but from the corner of his eye he saw Feng Liwei get up, excuse himself and go to the rest room to clean himself. He continued eating and drinking and chatting with the people sitting near him but deep inside only waiting for a single reply.
He didn’t have to wait too long. A few minutes later he felt his phone vibrate just as he saw Feng Liwei come back and sit down. He opened the message which was suprisingly much longer than expected.
Winter Breeze to Wintry Tree:
There’s a car in the E wing of the parking lot. I gave your wristband authorization to use it. The car door’s interface will light up when you get near, so you’ll know which one it is. Just swipe your wristband and you can get in. The car is programmed to take you to a place where we can talk. Get in and go to the designated meeting place and wait for me there. Of course, your wristband also has clearance to enter that building as well.
Fuyuki looked at the message and read it again. It wasn’t hard to decide what to do. He already made up his mind way before sending that message. So there is no doubt that he will do just as he was told.
“Are you leaving?” he heard Annisa ask him as he stood up.
“Yeah,” he nodded.
“You weren’t so talkative as usual,” she said looking concerned. “Is everything alright?”
“Absolutely. I just feel tired. I have to get up early tomorrow to catch a flight, so I could return home,” he said casually.
“Have a safe flight then and see you soon!” she smiled at him and patted his shoulder as a way to say goodbye.
After leaving, Fuyuki went straight to the parking lot and and looked around to see which car’s door will light up just as written in the message. As it turned out, the it wasn’t even parked that far as if its owner wanted him to find it easily and quickly.
He walked up to the car, scanned his wristband, and sure enough, its doors opened immediately. He noticed before getting in that the license plate had a special ensign only the ambassadors vehicles had, granting access to almost anywhere.
Thank you in advance, he thought.
He got in and just like Winter Breeze wrote SAI system immediately informed him to sit back and enjoy the ride.
And that’s exactly what he did. He looked out the window and tried to find out the destination but it ended in failure. The building they stopped in front of didn’t seem like a place he had been to even though he had a sense of familiarity after stepping in.
Its corridors were empty, perhaps no one was at home. Not that it mattered. In fact, it’s even better since they can talk more freely this way.
He went into the first room he came across, mainly because its door was open. It happened to be a mix of a study and a library as it had both the latest gadgets and equipment needed for work and communication but also some rows of shelves full of books which gave an old-school feeling to the otherwise modern room.
Fuyuki walked around to see if he could get an info about its owner but he was unsuccessful. He even walked up to one of the shelves to take a look at those old books, when he heard footsteps behind him. He immediately tensed, just like all the muscles in his back and shoulders. For the first time in a long while he felt scared and the lump in his throat returned making it difficult to speak when the time came. But he still mustered up some courage and turned to face the person, who just arrived.
His heart skipped a beat as he saw Feng Liwei in his navy blue ceremonial dress uniform walking towards him. Feng Liwei took quick, long strides and didn’t even say a word and wasn’t even surprised to see him.
So, he knew, Fuyuki thought. Somehow, he felt relieved at the thought of this. But he didn’t have much time to think this over as Feng Liwei was walking too fast as if wanting to catch someone running away from him even though he was standing in the same place and didn’t even move.
Fuyuki thought that it was fine as long as they could finally speak openly and they no longer had to hide anything from each other. After all, their goals are the same so there should be no disagreement between them regarding what to do. But when Feng Liwei finally stood right before him, he didn’t stop to say or discuss anything but pushed his back against the shelves and kissed him.
Oh, my God! Is he insane? Or am I insane?
The way Feng Liwei kissed him was no less intense than previously. Perhaps, it was even more intense as now there was no one to witness it and there was no excuse for doing it. It was a kiss just for the sake of kissing. And he immensely enjoyed it. It felt like drinking a glass of water on a particularly hot summer day which is nearly not enough but it's a good start to quench one’s thirst.
Feng Liwei chose the perfect time to release him. Just when Fuyuki felt it was hard for him to breathe, and he felt weak in his knees.
“In case you haven’t realized, my answer is yes,” Feng Liwei said in a hoarse voice as he looked straight into his eyes.
“It better be,” Fuyuki replied, which came off a bit more arrogant than he wanted. But the moment he said it something seemed to snap in Feng Liwei, who decided to continue the kissing where they left off.
Fuyuki only realized how much he waited for this moment when Feng Liwei’s hands traveled up along his back and slid down his waist before embracing him. Now, locked in his embrace he didn’t have much space to move so his only option left was to raise his arms and caress his neck.
Fuyuki couldn’t decide whether it was because Feng Liwei thought that now that his arms were locked around his neck it’s safe to lift him up or because he heard his breathing getting a bit louder but the moment they happened, Fuyuki felt Feng Liwei’s hands lifting his legs and locking them around his waist so he won’t fall off.
“Where...”
“Just a moment, we are almost there,” Feng Liwei assured him in his husky voice as he was walking out of the room, while holding him.
“I like your uniform,” Fuyuki said suddenly while looking at his epaulet. “You look dangerously good in it,” he informed Feng Liwei in a low voice right next to his ear.
“Shall I leave it on?” he asked after a few seconds of silent thinking.
Fuyuki shook his head.
“Next time. Now I wanna see you.”
Fuyuki was pushed down right after he said this. He didn’t see where but he wasn’t hurt so he couldn’t care less. He looked up at the man smiling at him and felt a sense of happiness spreading through him.
It’s him! It’s really him!
Did anyone ever die of happiness?
Because I feel like I did.
