Chapter 46:

Fallen Angel

Abyss of evolution

As Lilith was celebrating her victory, a devastating roar of something massive was heard from a nearby building. A huge black ball flew out, destroying the foundation of the building, hitting Lilith's elbow, breaking it.

Her grip loosened, and Ami fell to the ground. The ball transformed into an Oni demon, and passengers emerged from it. Fumiko was attached to the Oni with the strands of hair she’d used to break and subdue it.

"Ami! Are you okay?"

"What the hell is going on here?" Kamiko ran up to the demigoddess. "Did that thing come out of the Abyss?"

"Where is Takeshi?" Ningen asked.

"Another giant demon!!!" Jan noticed Lilith.

"Isn't that the girl that Mikhal turned Miku into?" Itsuki remembered. "Where is Buki?"

"So that's how it is… She calls herself Lilith… they’re all inside her!" Ami was recovering.

Lilith pulled her forearm back and quickly restored her hand.

"So, everyone has gathered for their funeral?" She said bloodthirstily with strange tenderness.

Lilith brought her hand down with force, causing an earthquake, disorienting the opponents. The angel released spikes from her back, resting on the asphalt. They pulled her out of the hollow and threw her up. Lilith extended and straightened the spikes like wings, only "working" on gravimagnetism, and soared.

"I have adapted enough to the conditions on the surface…"
Lilith examined her body.
"It's time to transform this world!"

The angel folded her wings, announcing herself, and curled into a fetal position, concentrating energy for something large-scale.

"What is she doing?" Omosa was worried.

"Probably preparing for some kind of powerful attack!" Itsuki analyzed, recording the surge of energy with his devices.

"It will destroy all of Tokyo!" Fumiko was faster.

"Ami, what should we do?" Kamiko came closer to her.

"I… I don't know."

Ami was confused, and looked at Kusanagi, and then towards the destroyed Sarcophagus.

"Haku is destroyed, Yomi isn’t responding, we spent all the magatama beads on the shield… I only have Kusanagi left."

"Beads? Like these?"

Everyone looked at the stranger with a scar on his neck who had arrived with them.

"Who are you?" Kamiko was indignant.

"He… joined us at Mukibutsu headquarters." Itsuki said.

"Yeah… it's a complicated story… I was once a mercenary for Mukibutsu, but they betrayed me and killed me. Before I could wake up in some burning forest, I found myself in a blazing headquarters."

"I remembered!" Kamiko slammed her fist into palm. "Takeshi's head was on your body! How did you grow your head!?"

"Anyway, I want to help you and take revenge on Mukibutsu! But how will the beads help?"

Ami has already researched them.

"These look more like yours." Ami exchanged glances with Miyata. "But they might come in handy, thank you!"

"Fumiko, any ideas?"

"Not the slightest… Only Ami can 'fly', and Oni can't jump that far."

"Try thinking of something! I'll hold her off."

Using okobo's spring mode, Ami jumped and soared, using her recent technique that also used gravimagnetism, but Lilith's field pushed her back.

"Damn it, I can't get through! How could this happen, Ami!?" The demigoddess was flagellating herself.

"Don't make such faces…" Lilith's angry but captivating voice rang out. "Soon, you’ll all become better… in my own world."

"You meant in ours!?"
A deep bass rumbled from the Abyss itself.

Something shot out from there, as if from a titanic cannon, the projectile struck Lilith's "cocoon."

"Who is this!?"

Using the zoom, Fumiko made out Mikhail's face, but it and his entire body were distorted like Lilith's. Now he looked more like a half-angel and half-demon. His stone skin was covered in sharp spikes, his hands were paws with massive claws, and his mouth was strewn with powerful fangs.

Mikhail was significantly larger than an ordinary man, but he was far from a titan. Even so, he spread Lilith's wings and interrupted the attack.

"W-Where did you come from!?"

"Archangel Mikhal has risen straight from the depths of Hell!" He roared like a Christian demon.

He flew around the clumsy Lilith and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her down with him.

"T-there!" Fumiko noticed.

With a powerful movement, Mikhal knocked Lilith right onto the TV tower, which pierced the titan's chest, coming out. The angel howled in pain and inability to recover. The TV tower was still sending a signal blocking Mikhal's abilities, which affected Lilith.

"Have you forgotten how we wanted to make the world a better place together? You even reproached me for losing to the evovirus!? Lily!"

"Lily is gone!" Lilith screamed in unbearable pain, writhing on the ground.

"What about our family, what we wanted to create together!? Have you forgotten that too?"

"Li… Lilia is gone! Only Lilith!"

"You didn't even have time to answer…"

Suddenly, Mikhail burst into tears and then thundered throughout the destroyed center of Tokyo.

"To my proposal!"

"Huh?" Kamiko realized. "Hey, 'Archangel' Mikhal, catch!"

Kamiko assumed a pitcher's pose and threw something at the top of the TV tower with a powerful volley.

"Eh?"

He deftly caught the ring, awakening warm memories in him.

"Only Lilith!" The angel extended her arm, trying to reach the top.

Mikhail modified the ring he’d just caught and reached out to Lilith in response. Her hand split open, creating a tunnel inside. It was as if every cell in her body didn't want to even touch the ring. Mikhail had reached Lilith's "core".

"N-no! No! Don't you dare!" Lilith tried to stop him with her spikes.

At the core, Mikhail found Lilia's sleeping body. When the angel's flesh retreated, she woke up, looking at Mikhail in surprise. And she burst into tears, noticing the ring.

"Yes!"
Lilia answered.

Lilith's body froze, as if it had been de-energized, and her head fell back. But a moment later, her body suddenly swelled up.

"R-run!" Fumiko ordered. "Get to cover immediately!"

There was a powerful explosion, Lilith's blood sprinkled the center of Tokyo near the Abyss. Fumiko blocked the shockwave with her Oni body.

"W-what happened!?" Kamiko held her head.

"She collapsed…" Fumiko concluded sadly.

"What about Mikhail and Lilia? The others!?"

"Huh? What is this signal?"

Fumiko tuned her receiver and burst into tears. Kamiko and Ami could read her thoughts, the others had enough empathic connection to be imbued with the moment before they were told.

Before the explosion, Mikhail managed to send a signal via the TV tower to Russia, where his main body was. He transmitted his memories and a new antidote to the evovirus to stop the expansion. Mikhail understood that the real Lilia had died back then in Moscow, and here was only the personality he copied. The antidote destroyed their "immortal" bodies, and their copies died here along with Lilith.

"Hey, look, over there!" Itsuki shouted.

"Isn't that the monk from Izumo and… that mercenary, another one!?"

Kamiko was perplexed, looking through the zoom glasses, with no less bewilderment at the people rising from Lilith's blood.

"What!? Why are there two of me!?" The shocked mercenaries pointed their fingers at each other.

Other Tokyo residents were also rising, and even the poor schoolgirl Masami.

"T-t-teacher Jesu!" She screamed in horror. "Guys! M-Masuto!? Is that you?"

"Sanno! Where are you!?" Ami screamed, wandering in a sea of blood.

"Biku!" Omosa and Itsuki were looking for.

"Takeshi! Miku!" Kamiko joined in.

"There, look!" Fumiko was the first to find it.

The guys ran where Fumiko was pointing, but suddenly stopped, noticing something in the way. Itsuki and Kamiko fell to their knees in shock in front of the two dead bodies of Buka and Miku.

"No! Toshi!!!" Itsuki couldn't hold back his scream and tears.

"Buki… You fought with dignity." Omosa mourned.

"Even Miku… how could this be… But where is Takeshi?" Kamiko was going crazy with grief.

"Hey, little sister…" A familiar voice was heard, spreading through the pool of blood.

Ami found the source, but in horror, she covered her mouth with her hand, holding back a frightened scream.

"Sanno…" She said quietly.

From the terrible stench, Ami realized that there wasn’t only blood here, but also… Lilith's vomit?

There was someone else unconscious lying next to him, but Ami didn't have time to see, Sanno turned to her.

"S-sorry… I was drugged by Izanami… but I won't give up my hatred for you and Amaterasu, who killed my parents…"

"You know that's not true…"

"Shh…" Sanno spat out blood. "Ami…"

"You better rest, you still have a lot to fix…"

"No… this is not… the end." With an effort, he raised his weakened hand, pointing somewhere.

"What!?" Ami turned around.

It suddenly became dark, as if night had fallen.

"Finally. Silence. The thoughts of the living are so fussy and restless… Do not be afraid, my children, I’ll give you…"

Eternal peace.
