Chapter 8:
The Robot That Caught The Human Disease
She walked with Haruto, observing the mansion in wonderment as she floated. Although unlike the first time, she didn't scream. Instead, she stretched her arms to grab something. Haruto noticed her outreached hand as she puffed her cheeks, trying to grab the railing but unable to grab it. She was swaying her legs rapidly so that she was getting further away than closer to the magnetic pull on the ground and with a little hesitation, he extended his own hands to her, holding her hand gently to tug her to the railing. She gave him a cheeky smile and he looked away briefly, avoiding her gaze.
Now that she had the railing, the magnetics in her feet attached her to the conveyor belt. "Hmm this is kind of fun!"
Yui remarked and Haruto couldn't help but ask. "Is it?"
She hummed her approval as he took the lead, jumping down to the lower conveyor belt, taking routes that Yui tried to memorize. "It's strange how you take joy in every little thing. All of us don't. Makes you feel humane."
Yui had to resist the big smile that was about to burst out of her. She was able to blend in so well! "Oh well, probably because I am?"
She stuck her tongue and for a moment he laughed a little to himself, shaking his head. "We are here."
He opened the room she can stay in. "Make yourself at home."
"Thank you!" Yui beamed as she floated again and reached the ground this time perfectly. She waved him goodbye, and he looked at her for a moment before closing the door.

It was late at night and Yui got out of bed, sneaking out of her room. She needed to gain some more information. She went out, strolling through. As she expected, Type A caught her.
"Rule violation detected, a deviation from established protocol 3, section 2, an individual exited the designated area after ten without proper authorization should be punished." The camera on the ceiling angled right at her.
"Based on standard operating procedures, I'll raise the alarm on 10, 9, 8, 7-" Systematic, unnatural voice popped up according to the rules of the household. Type A was a system with no physical shape, it's always surveilled and monitor people, always there to answer any questions or coordinate any routes but never there in person.
Yui scoffed. Of course, those snitches were never loyal to anyone. Slickers to the rules! They always caught her back in the factory, but she knew how to deal with them because she had access to information about fellow robots like her as the person with highest authority among the types.
"Type A serial number #104858887214, If you don't want me to reset your coding, you better keep this a secret." Yui pointed an accusing finger at the camera on the side. "Delete this footage as well and nobody will know."
"5- 4-... How did you know my code?" Systematic stopped counting, finding it strange.
"Haruto told me." Yui lied naturally. Of course, she can't tell it she was robotic and that she saved the number when she first entered. Not even her threat will fall through if it did know that she is a criminal. They are all under the impression that no robotic remains in the city after ten pm and knowing how the factory is, they probably didn't notice report her disappearance to the whole world. "I'm just looking around so don't worry. I won't be doing anything against the standard rules but if I did, you can report me."
Systematic didn't say anything except shutting off the camera. "It's not possible to break rules."
Well, she did! Yui continued walking but a part of her felt odd. Why was she the only one breaking rule then? Not even the humans' broke rules? Lost in thoughts, she looked everywhere, the kitchen, living room, and guest room. She continued heading towards the nearest exit. The exit reached a garden and there, she walked towards the flowers and water fountain. She let out a sigh, was she not going to find anything right now? She was hoping to at least dig from a symbotic. They were always willing to give information to keep you away from breaking rules. That's what she was hoping to find. "What? Are Symbotics not even allowed to stay past ten"
She soured, she didn't remember reading anything about that. She plopped on the ground, opening her stomach to get rid of content from the food she ate early. Her body learned to blend, purify and get rid of the "food" afterwards. She closed the vault there, about to stand up until she heard a sound. She hides quickly behind the bushes.
"I know you are there." The voice startled her, and she wasn't going to come out until she saw who it was.
"What? What are you still doing here?" Yui came out from her hiding spot, finding an unexpected discovery.
The male robotic Eisuke was bullying, stood before her. Her eyes popped out. "How are you still here? It's past ten?"
"It's not strange for me to be here. I've lived with master for more than thirty years and have since swore loyalty to master." His face remained stoic, unfazed by the question. "As part of the pact, he bestowed me the name of Rem."
Over thirty years? Most of them don't even live past five! Yui stared at him in amazement. "Woah, is that possible?"
"I was fortunate enough that master is an important figure that needed me." Rem said before he tilted his head to the right. "Although what a robotic like you doing here?"
Yui's eyes widened. "How did you know?"
Rem blinked. "It's obvious."
Yui frowned. It clearly was not since it deceived everyone so far except Kaito. "It was not!"
"If you say so." Rem didn't even bother elaborating on how he noticed. "Although you better answer why you are here."
"I don't think I need to tell you." Yui didn't want to give up information about herself that will put her at a disadvantage.
"Tell you why you are here or else-"
Without hesitation, Rem's hands extended towards Yui, clamping her mouth. It pulled her closer to him as he rose her off the ground. She felt so much pain at the pressure he was putting in her mouth. Yui let out a struggle cry, feet kicking. "-I'll kill you."
His eyes darkened, glowing momentary. "I told you, didn't I? My loyalty lies with the master."
"H-how? Y-you aren't programmed to do this!" Yui swung her legs back and forth as she felt her eyes about to darken, losing strength.
He scoffed a little in mockery at her response, "If you don't answer my question, I-"
"I'll ANSWER! I'LL ANSWER!"

Yui sat on the dining table, watching Rem with interest as he cooked dinner for their family. She was poking holes at the back of his head.
He loosened his grip to allow her to talk. "I'm not here to harm anyone! I just wanted to ask Haruto to fix my core."
His grip tightened more, and the pain was enough to bring liquid out of her eyes. He looked to the side and his other hand messaged his forehead as he spoke. "Why would little master fix your core... Are you-" his eyes widened for a moment.
"Are you little master's assigned robotic that ran away?" There was amusement in his lips, one that she couldn't read yet as she hadn't experienced emotions, but it looked unnatural.
He let her go immediately, she fell to the ground coughing. His shoulders shaking, laughing. He kind of looked more humane than her at that moment. She kind of felt like she understood Haruto's words at that moment but not in a good way. A shiver went down her spine. It was weird.
"I'll keep your secret." Rem finally calmed down and his expression went back to stoicism. She stood up, dusting her dress, feeling confused. She looked at him suspiciously, "You will?"
"Yes." He blinked, placing his hands on his pockets.
"Why?" She knows she should be happy about it but a part of her can't help but feel unsettled.
"Because you are no threat. Clearly." Rem placed his gloved hands behind his back.
She let out a sigh, looking up ahead. Something was bothering her but rationally, it didn't exist. She tried to use extra brain power to figure out what it was but there wasn't anything for her to go off. He doesn't see her as a threat, which she wasn't, so that means there shouldn't be anything wrong?
"Why are you sighing like this?" Haruto asked, observing her.
That's right? Why is she even sighing? She should find a way to get Haruto to fix her core. Rem placed food on the table, and she made eye contact with him. There was that clear amusement in his eyes again before he pulled himself away. Something in her head clicked immediately. It could be that Rem already knew that humans won't repair robotics like her. That would make sense why he found it funny. She glared at the robotic retreating form, pulling her arm back as if she would beat him up. The moment Rem looked back, she sat straight, pretending she was always eating.
Haruto has his chin in his palm, noticing the weird antics and lack of attention on him. "Strange... You are very strange."
Haruto closed his eyes for a moment.
Haruto walked down the school hall. The girls that passed by were squealing as they looked at him. He didn't spare them a single glance, just heading towards his destination. Kaito, beside him, was giving flying kisses to the crowd, waving at them goodbye.
All of this is fake. The admiration, the adoration, the love, all of it is fake. None of them were sincere in their love for him. These people will never truly love him.
"Haruto-sama! Please have my heart." A girl extended a chocolate. She was a blushing mess as she kept her head down.
Haruto's pupil lowered to the letter glued to the top of the wrapper. Fake. All of this is fake. Nothing about this was sincere. He put on a fake smile as he took her chocolate, finger on his lips as he cutely thanked her. No sincerity at all. How he wished... to experience real love.
"Haruto-sama... Can you... Ask your dad to help me?" The girl who extended her chocolate looked up at him in hopefulness.
It was... All Fake.
Haruto opened his eyes. "Why haven't you asked me yet?"
Yui sucked on the empty spoon, she blinking out of the trance she was in, confused on what he meant.
"Do you need anything?" Haruto leaned back, he might as well hear it now, so he won't set his expectations high. Yui's eyes brightened up.
"I can ask?"
Haruto nodded. Right, she will ask for help like all of them.
"I want-" Yui looked around and, in that moment, loud words rang in her head. Why would anyone help repair a broken robotic? Images of the factory to Rem... now even she started to doubt herself. Her smile faltered.
"When you get a defective product, you don't ask it to be repaired, you ask it to be replaced."
That's right, nobody would fix it. If she ignored her main problem, the one thing she really, really wanted was...
"I want to see the world!” she smiled.
Haruto's eyes widened, his posture broke.
“Does anyone else… want to see the world with me?” Haruto shared this with his childhood friends as they looked at him like he was insane.
“Does nobody want to see the world?” Haruto expressionlessly waited for his family to say something. His mother looked at him in confusion.
“Does anybody want to see the world?” Haruto checked with his classmates.
Anyone? No one? Does nobody wanted to see the world?
”Why would anyone do that, Haruto? We live in a perfect world already.”
“You want to see the world?” Haruto repeated.
“Yes! I want to see the sun rises!”
For the first time, she saw the same smile she usually does but this time… it looked different.
“I'll show you the world! I'll show you... the sun rise!”
