Chapter 17:
The Robot That Caught The Human Disease
Yui walked out of the door, all bloody and devastated. She passed by the people, not caring about who was staring. They probably never witnessed murder anyone, so they didn't suspect anything.
Haruto's betrayal rang in her head over and over again, as if it was a chant. But more than that, her impulsive, irrational decision, broke her more. There was not much time left, he was knocked out with less than two seconds to take his last breath, but she walked away, she couldn't bear seeing him all bloody and dying. She let out a cry, one that sounded like a beast howling. She didn't even want the core that much. She wanted his presence and approval to be with him. She wanted to be near him. She was willing to die for him...
She didn't know where she was going, she let her feet lead her wherever it wanted to go as she sobbed. It led her right into the outskirts of the domain. The way they spent their time together. She looked at her hands, full of Haruto's blood. Their smiles and happiness, gone. With the wind.
The rustle of leaves brought her attention back to the ground. She turned back. There was Rem, standing tall and imposing. His signature smile wasn't there anymore.
“You… I can't believe it… you killed the master….” he looked at her in complete disbelief. “My master was so kind to you... Who are you to even… to even do this?”
Yui looked at him, numbed by the overwhelming emotions she experienced. “He got… what he deserves.”
She threw Haruto’s words back to Rem.
“You thief!” Rem immediately threw a knife at her, but she missed it with her instinct. This man wanted to kill her. She braced herself.
“I gave him a chance… he didn't want it! I didn't kill him. He killed himself.” Yui spread her arms aggressively. She was madder about it than Rem was. How dare he treat her like she was disposable.
“Now, I want to live the life I want. I'll leave this city now that I got what I wanted...” Her voice cracked at the last word.
Rem threw another knife, it was so fast, it cut through her hair, she quickly ducked, the sound of air whipped above her head. Rem quickly followed it by a kick, she flew across the ground, rolling and standing up immediately. She ran as she threw multiple sets of punches. Rem dodged every single one of them as she did a front kick, he took a step back, but it was followed by a round kick. Rem bent down and grabbed her foot. He twisted his body to the side, dragging her along him, and slammed her to the ground, grabbing both feet now. He dragged her along the ground, watching her try to get up using her hand and he slammed her into a tree.
“I'll make sure your life is a miserable hell… I should have never let you live. I should have killed you immediately.” Rem grabbed her by the hair as she cried out. He slammed her face on the digital tree bark over and over again. “I'll show you what hell feels like on earth.”
Her face slammed against the tree one more time and she blacked out. She didn't know how long she had passed out, the next time her eyes opened, she wasn't near the forest. She can only see the pure white ceiling above her head. Where was she?
She turned her head around, trying to find clues. She didn't know where she was, but it smelt familiar. “Little one, you are back to me again.”
An old man, wearing a lab coat stood above her head. She was tied to a bed, strapped in a straitjacket, unable to budge from the extra security. “Where am I?”
“You don't remember? You are back in the factory.” He chuckled, amused. “After you ran away from the factory, I thought to myself, we lost one of our best lab experiments but I'm glad to hear they caught you. The relief I felt.”
He brought out a syringe, pushing the plunger a little, as liquid slipped out. It was very familiar. Her gaze moved away from the object when Rem came to her view. “You? What are you doing here?”
“I brought you here of course.” Rem stood beside the doctor. “I told you, didn't I? I'll make it hell.”
Yui scoffed, rolling her eyes. Making her a scrap of metals, very original. A louder voice started to come in the room, yelling where is she so loud, she can hear it.
“You caught her? You found the human who killed my son?” Hanzo walked into the room and Yui looked at them confused.
“Yes master, this is the human that killed Haruto.” Rem pointed an accusing finger at her, glaring. Yui's voice got lost in her throat. What human!
“You thieving witch.” He grabbed her by the throat, and she choked, losing her breath. “How- how did you know?”
“Know what?” She cried out and he looked at her in complete disgust before letting her go. He tugged at his blazer, fixing his suit and there was a menacing look on everyone's face. “Open the shutter.”
Beyond the room there was a shutter, and once it opened, it revealed more humans. There was a child in the middle, around the age of five years old and two worn out adults.
“Meet Maiko and Daiki, the breeders.” They were playing with the child tiredly before they signaled for them to leave. They complied without a word.
“This is your brother.” Hanzo pointed at the little kid. "You came from the same breeders."
“This is my brother?” She never met him before but the young and innocent look in his face made her heart melt. He waved at her, blissfully unaware.
“Now, watch as we turn him into a robotic. Type B! Cut his legs.” Hanzo ordered as Ram had a kettle in his hand and started to pour everyone tea for the show.
“What are you doing! He is like a child!” Yui looked at the people as they grabbed him and strapped him into the bed like she was. They brought a saw and started to cut parts of his body. Yui screamed as she closed her eyes, but Rem pulled her eyes apart, letting her witness what's happening.
She screamed and howled as blood spilled everywhere and left nothing but dismembered bodies. The boy was also screaming until his voice could no longer cry.
“Unfortunately… he didn't pass the test sir.” The Symbotic said as it stared at its pile of flesh.
“Throw him away.” Hanzo ordered as he stared in disappointment. “Another bust.”
Yui sobbed, unable to make sense of what she witnessed. Rem placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled his signature smile. “Didn't I tell you… I'll make your life hell?”
