Chapter 18:
The Robot That Caught The Human Disease
She didn't know how many people she witnessed die the past few days, but she lost count. There were too many people dying that she felt like she was just watching the same show on repeat. What was the point of doing all of this? Revenge for killing Haruto?
“Hush little one, hush. You will forget what you saw today just like you did before.” The scientist patted her head.
“I want to forget already,” she muttered as she watched Symbotic come in and drag the dead bodies away to who knows where.
“You should actually be proud… you are one of them too but unlike them, you are not a failure,” he complimented her. She felt herself shake a little, unable to believe that she went through this and lived… she survived. “I was told by Hanzo that I shouldn't make you forget but kill you.”
She felt anger fill her up and she spat at him. He laughed in amusement, wiping his face. “Now let us get it to the good part.”
He brought a chainsaw, and she stared at him as he got closer, he was about to kill her. The machine got closer to the leather that tied her up and cut right to it. She was out! She quickly rose her hand, sacrificing it as she pushed herself out of the way. She swept her legs from under his feet, watched as he fell right down and she gave him a quick kick, not even looking back and she can hear the scream and machine running in the back.
She quickly started running, looking for a way to escape. She ran with her might, but she heard the alarm ring, it kept ringing about a breach. The shutter closed the entrance door. She can't get out now. She needed to act fast. Her feet lead her further inside the facility, where she used to reside. She passed by the Type C.
That's right, she can create a riot. She ran up to the white hair people, begging and pleading. “Everyone! I'm human! I'm human! Everyone, you are human. Robotic, Type C, you are a human! We are all humans! This is just a sick experiment-”
She saw from the corner of her eyes a bunch of Symbotic showing up. She will run and create chaos! “Everyone! You are human! I'm a human!”
She screamed from the top of her lungs as she avoided the robots that showed up, dodging their fast movements. Why nobody believed her?
As she passed along, she caught the headmaster in the corner, watching the scene. The headmaster she knew since she was young. She screamed. “I'm human! I'm human!”
Yui gasped as she tried to find a place to hide. She will get caught like this. What was the safest place to hide her? There was no place to hide. There was no- her sight caught the scrap yard. She slowed down as she saw the scrap yard area, that one she was afraid of dying too. Nobody would find her… there.
“Have you seen her?”
“I think she went that way?”
Yui ran, she ran without looking back and as she got on the conveyor belt, she jumped into the abyss. The abyss that she saved herself from... Nobody…
Nobody was going to find her here.
She fell right in, disappearing with the darkness.

Yui didn't know what hit her, but she can't remember what happened. She grabbed her head, her body in pain all over. Where was she? She opened her eyes. She came face to face with a robotic underneath her. She let out a startled cry. A dead human. She somehow survived by falling on some bodies but one of her legs is broken now so she can only pretend to be dead and blend in. There were many robotic at the bottom. She suddenly felt a stinging pain that shot through her core, and she cried, unable to handle it. It took a few minutes before she could finally calm down. Why was her core still hurting her? She stolen Haruto's heart. It should be fine? Was it because she fell down?
She raised her head and looked at her surroundings, many humans were there, and she could hear some groaning. There were survivors! She was about to call them out when she heard voices. It sounded like it was from outside, coming inside the cavern. “Come on in! Of course you are allowed in.”
A Symbotic gesture for whoever they wanted to come in. Yui peeked one eye to see what's happening here. There was Kaito, strolling in with a wide smile. What was he doing here!
Kaito walked next to a dead Robotic, opening a vault to grab their core. “Hmmm great! All of these cores I can get for myself!”
He hummed in delight as he twirled, looked down at each and every one of them. “I need a couple. I get sick easily, so I need to replace mine every three months. It can get tiring.”
Yui shut her eyes closed as he was getting closer to her, using her hair to cover her face. “Hmm?”
He looked down, tilting his head before his smile widened. He grabbed her by the hair, pulling her up. “Look what we have here? The foolish killer who killed Haruto.”
Yui gritted her teeth, glaring at him. “What? You're also here to steal cores?”
“Am I?” He gave an innocent pout, thinking. Yui may have lost one leg and an arm, but it doesn't mean she can't fight. She stabbed her toes into his chin and did it again and again, enduring the unbearable pain but the smile on Kaito's face never faltered. “Hahaha, that's why you were my favourite.”
“What? Why aren't you hurt?” She looked shocked at how it's not even making him flinch. She once again rose her leg and started kicking him straight in the face. “Huh? Why? What's going on?’
Kaito laughed, dangling her with his hands. “I want this robotic for myself.”
“Answer my question Kaito!” Yui yelled as she struggled to comprehend what has been happening to her lately.
“I like the way my name sounds out of your voice.” Kaito dragged her with him as she glared at him. Tightening her grip on his hand did nothing, unaffected. He lowered her to the ground and dragged her with him. She slide down the pathway, trying to get out.
“Haven’t you ever thought about the reason why you turned you into this advanced human? So you can serve people like us?” She looked at him confused. “What… what are you talking about?’
He grinned, poking her head. “I love that you are always so slow, it makes you endearing.”
“Get your hands off me.” She gritted as he started to drag her with her outside of the cavern.
“You see, I'm always sick… actually a lot of us get sick. The prototype medicine that is supposed to never make us sick? Yea, that doesn't exist. If failed. You, princess, are the prototype medicine. Your core-”
He pointed at it. “-Keeps me alive as long as I change to yours. So, we have to take the core out of each “robotic” there is a reason why you guys never last five years because we get sick.”
Yui shook her head, feeling unwell at the reveal, her body rolling on the ground as she resisted to move but it didn't work. Kaito was stronger than he looked. “No, that's not true. I had a defected core! This defected core was going to kill me-”
“Oh yea, the lies we tell to get people like you into the scrapyard willingly.” He pulled her along as they reached the outside world, where she can see the dark skies. “You see, Haruto was sick. Usually, you take the core of the assigned human once you start feeling sick, but he grew sick fast, so he needed the core of his robotic very soon. But would you look at that? Someone escaped and instead had Haruto grow soft! She even wanted to give him her core but he loved her too much to take it!”
Yui's face paled, getting a little sticker by the second. “Stop, you don't have to say anymore.”
“No, I need too because I hate him… you see, we are always together but we never trust each other. We are so different it annoys me to see him care about people like you. You are only there for us to use so he chose your life over his? When he is the superior?”
“I beg you please, I don't want to hear anymore.” She started to cry, unable to contain the tears. No, that's can't be! She went still, no longer struggling.
“Why? Are you sad you killed him for nothing… Don't cry, at least he succeeded in protecting you as he wished. He didn't want his family to know you were there with all the surveillance monitoring him, but you are so foolish, you didn't catch on.” He stopped walking to graze her hair but then looked at her. She felt like she was a heinous criminal. “Don't worry, I won't kill you, your core is useless to me anyway. You took Haruto’s sick core. He wasn't meant to live long and now, you are not going to live long. “
“If my core was perfect, why… why was I feeling pain in my core?” Yui wanted some clarification because she wouldn't have switched her core if she knew!
“We install machines that cause pain every now and then so you can feel the sense of urgency, but it is usually harmless.” He shrugged as he looked to reach the edge of a cliff he was nearby. He extended his hand out, looking down were multiple road routes.
“Yui, it was fun seeing you. I love easy people and dealing with someone like you helped me kill Haruto... Maybe now Hanzo can adopt me instead.” She glared at him, no longer caring if she died. He let her go as she slowly started to fall; he muttered. “Maybe in another life, you be born the superior being.”
