Chapter 27:
The Girl Who Saw It All
Being one with the world was surreal, I need only close my eyes and focus a bit, and I would be able to hear all that was going on. The groans of zombies who wandered around, screams of people running or caught by zombies, cries of those who lost their loved ones or were simply scared, and pleas of those who wanted this all to end.
Nevada was rotten, built upon the sacrifices of innocent people and the paranoia of a mad man. The world needed to be set right again. For over 500 years, too many lies have been fed to the people and those outside of Nevada struggled to survive.
Yes, even though he sought to call Earth Nevada and write history to please himself, whoever was beyond our lands still wanted to live.
One second I was standing atop the tower, the next I had shown up on all buildings, information centers, TVs, phones, everything that I could use to broadcast myself.
"Good afternoon, everyone. I'm sure you all know me very well. While I did not cause the chaos happening everywhere right now, I can put an end to it."
At first people were surprised when I suddenly hijacked all broadcasting platforms. I could hear all their accusations and curses. Some people even tried to pinpoint my location to find me. But at the end of my sentence everyone became quiet, I could feel the hope they held.
"However, before I decide to do that I would like to tell you all a story. A story of the place you've lived all your lives and the people who lead you."
I told them everything, about Earth, the wars, the meteorite, their president. Contrary to what you would think, the internet wasn't down worldwide and speculations and comments ran wild an I spoke.
I paused my explanation, "A side note to you people trying to find me. It would be best if you stayed hidden and not waste your time. Even if you magically find me, no one will reward you."
I switched out my face to the deceased president's body. It was expected that they were in disbelief, some even questioned how I knew they were looking for me.
My explanation of this world came to an end and I gave everyone a minute to process what I said.
"I will rectify this world, and appoint this country a new leader. You people-"
Someone smashed the holographic system on one of the buildings. I wanted to settle things using words, but it seems like that would be futile.
I added a live video of the man, "You think you're some sort of dictator now? That we"ll just believe what you say so that you can put an end to this?! Well screw you!!! I lost my son to a hoard of zombies yesterday and his blood is on your hands!"
A few other people raised up, agreeing with him. I closed my eyes and posted a part of Rina's and I last conversation where she confessed.
Some people were convinced, others said I staged it all. Now matter what I said or showed them, they wouldn't believe me.
Very well, if it's a monster they want then that's what they'll get.
"I can't believe a part of me once wanted to save you people. You're all ignorant and refuse to listen to reason. Very well, then continue to suffer. Nevada was always rotten, you people who are innocent have been corrupted, that's why you'll die."
The ground shook and people screamed in fear, the edges of city caved and nearby buildings crumbled. After a few minutes huge walls encased the entire Nevada.
"The rest of this world still lives, I'm sure they'd be more appreciative of my help. Goodbye foolish citizens of Nevada, this is your ending. Curse or beg me for mercy but it will not matter, but know that the girl you ostracized, May Zepher, is no more more, I am The End."
I ended the broadcast and made the zombies more ferocious, attacking even when their heads were smashed in. The only way to kill them would now be to burn them, so I cut off the city's power supply and any easy means to fire.
I left to gather both Lia's and Demi's corpses, tears threatening to fall as I looked at them. I don't think I'd ever be able to look at them without wanting to cry. I was currently standing in a cryogenic lab in the tower.
Both of them had helped me because I wanted them to, even if their actions were forced I didn't care. They were the only two people that gave me so much in so little time. I opened two of cryogenic pods and and carefully placed them inside.
After closing it, the pods slowly began to freeze. Even though I could make anything I wanted happen, I couldn't bring them back. If the synchronization process had been completed maybe then, but for now I'd have to wait until the day it did.
______
A new day dawned and people were even more despaired than before. I stood atop the tower as I looked down on everything. I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I needed to make sure Demi and Lia's bodies would be safe. So, I had the most dangerous mutants stay in this district, killed all the humans and closed the gate.
There was a whole world beyond Nevada, I knew what laid in wait for me and I was prepared. I would rebuild everything from the ground up no matter what.
Though I didn't start out with many people by my side, after multiple betrayals and losses, I now had no one. But that was fine, these were the consequences of my own actions. This was my path, and my ending was far from near.
From now on there would be no more tears, questions or conflicting emotions. I had one goal, to rebuild a world that would welcome Demi and Lia, that would make them happy. That's right, that's the ending they deserve. And I would give it to them, after all I am The End.
