Chapter 5:

Blending in Part 2

The Robot That Caught The Human Disease

Rinrin was glaring at her as she followed Kaito like a puppy, hoping the Nakamura they are talking about is the one she is looking for. She deduced there can't be many with such a famous last name so she predicted they had to be a relative or family member.

Once they reached a café coffee, as she entered, she saw people sitting mid air. Above her, were fluffy chairs, as if they were clouds keeping people afloat. As she got closer, a fluffy cloud came down to them. Kaito and Rinrin hopped on top of it, near the sensor on the bottom, reaching the two people limit. Yui was unaware of this fact and planned to climb up. As she touched the stuffed cotton, the drone-like cloud moved away, dragging her with them. "AHH"

Her feet dragged on the floor as Kaito giggled at her being unable to get up, swinging her legs back and forth as she tried to pull her legs together. Even Rinrin joined him in laughing at her.

"Help! He-"

They both snickered unaware that she was tilting the whole drone as well. "H-hey You going to get us-" Rinrin clung into the railing, about to trip off. Both Kaito and Rinrin held the steel like their life dependent on it as the drone wildly move. "HEY LET GO"

Yui held on tight, her body swing left and right as it floated higher and higher, screaming in confusion with Rinrin. Kaito, on the other hand, was laughing. "Hey!"

The drone moved around the big building, looking for its designated destination and reached the mushroom themed store. People who caught the scene laughed at them as Yui tried to pull herself together as the fast movement was making her disoriented. Light brown haired with icy blue eyes watched the scene with curiosity.

"Who are the dumb idiots on that drone? Don’t they know there is a two-person limit?" The people at the table mocked the sight as they found it amusing. The amusement turned into confusion when it reached their spot, dropping off those insides. Rinrin took a big breath, glaring at Yui when she finally reached the safe ground. She rolled her eyes before it landed on the blue-eyed boy.

"Nakamura-sama!" Rinrin stood straighter, bowing at him in respect as Kaito raised his hands up, greeting the three people already there. Yui got off, dusting herself off, wobbling and falling down from the dizziness. They giggled more at her as she looked at them in curiosity, hair messy.

"That was you guys on the drone? And who is this idio- girl?" A tall young woman with silver hair and eyes, dressed in academic clothes, pointed at her.

"You usually don't bring new people here?" Eisuke's hands rubbed his buzz cut blond hair, looking at the new addition with disgust.

"No comments from Haruto?" Kaito teased as he nudged the boy sitting on the corner.

Yui perked up at the name, an imaginary tail wagging behind her at having found him fast. "You are Haruto? Oh my god, I was looking for you!"

They all stared at her at the slip up. "Do you know him?"

"Oh... oh." Yui realized she made a big mistake. She buffered as she tried to come up with a last minute excuse. "Yes! The Nakamura family is famous here, I have always wanted to meet someone from their family."

Some eyes narrowed but Kaito immediately interjected, keeping the vibe friendly. "That's my childhood friend, Yui. She never had the opportunity to leave home so she is very sheltered and out of touch with reality so she doesn't know most of us here for that reason. She just found out about you... From me..."

Kaito glanced at her, face very expressionless. There was something in his gaze that seemed off, questioning even but Yui couldn't tell what it is

"Y-yes! I found out about you from Kaito." She swung one of her legs and rubbed the back of her head.

Haruto's suspicion turned into curiosity, he tilted his head to the side as he observed her. "Sheltered... Does that mean she doesn't actually know me?"

"Strange to have someone like that." Mei seemed confused by the idea while Eisuke patted her shoulders. "I was worried she might have approached us for benefits but since Kaito knows her, it means she is qualified. Which family is she from?"

Did people approach them for benefits? But that's why she wanted to meet Haruto... She fakely grinned at Eisuke. She felt like she can't bring up the fact that she wanted him to fix her core yet but when can she bring it? Her defected core needs to be fixed as soon as possible! Otherwise, she will be nothing but a scrap of metals!

"Takahashi," Kaito mentioned.

"I thought his daughter was missing. " Eisuke frowned, trying to remember.

"He found her ten years ago but ever since then, he kept it a secret and refused to let his daughter go so she became very sheltered, having never explored the world." Kaito gave Yui the perfect backstory.

"It's a pleasure to meet everyone! I'm Yui, I'll be at your service!" Yui beamed.

"See? She can't even speak right." Kaito humorously remarked as Eisuke and Mei snickered at her. She tilted her head, confused on what she said was wrong.

"She speaks like a Symbotic." Eisuke insulted her and Yui took notes of this information. She needs to avoid speaking a certain way but how can she? She lived Type A and B longer than she was outside!

Haruto looked down, smiling a little before his face turned blank.

"Now, now everyone!" Rinrin decided to steer the conversation. "Since we are all here, we might as well go to the movies like we planned."

"Let's go then!" Eisuke threw his fist to the air, gesturing for everyone to follow him.

Yui anxiously wiped her hands on her clothes as she followed them. She had never seen movies before, so she wondered what they were like. As she was following Kaito's back, her ears caught on the conversation between Rinrin and Haruto behind her.

"Nakamura-sama... Can you... can you reconsider?" Rinrin quickly got in front of Haruto, walking backwards, bringing his attention to her. He pulled his phone from his pockets, completely ignoring her.

"Please, please... Let your father fix me." Rinrin smiled cutely, hands behind her back but from Yui's angle, she noticed the way she was wringing her fingers where he couldn't see. She was nervous?

"No." Haruto replied boredly, dismissing her words, not even looking away from his phone.

"Come on~ we've been friends since forever~" Rinrin grabbed his hands, pulling him along, to distract him.

Haruto scoffed, looking at her. "I already helped you once... Why should I help you again? I think it's time you stop being a pest."

Rinrin's face visibly changed and she let him go, her gaze dropped to the ground, avoiding making contact with anyone.

Yui didn't understand what happened. Why did Haruto sound strange? Maybe they are close friends and that's why they were bantering like this... Although she started to feel like getting Haruto to do anything for her.... Might be impossible if that's how he treats his friends.
