Chapter 318:
En Passant Grandmaster
To many, the revelation of Jad's true identity did nothing. In fact, it just confused Okisato even more. Jochi however, sighed as he knew things were about to get crazy.
"Ugh, no holding him back now."
And for those that recognized the name, absolute terror filled them as Jad's bloodlust exploded.
Nikolai Robert Maximilian Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg, aka Roman von Ungern-Sternberg was an anti-communist general in the Russian civil war before becoming a warlord that sought not only to restore the Russian monarchy, but also to revive the Mongol empire. Claiming to be descended from Genghis Khan's grandson, Batu Khan, he managed to expel Chinese forces occupying Mongolia, restoring rule to the Bogd Khan.
However, he was captured by Red army forces and set to be executed via a firing squad on September 15th, 1921. The official records say he was in fact killed, but that wasn't quite true. That September had been oddly cold in the city of Novonikolayevsk, Russian SFSR, now present day Novosibirsk, Russia, with the water freezing over.
Roman was marched onto the ice in order to be killed, but before a shot could be fired, the ice gave way and Roman fell in. Troops swarmed the hole, but it was so cold, it froze back up, leaving Roman frozen beneath the ice. He was presumed dead, but he was still in fact alive, and would soon be transported to a laboratory at the orders of a man resembling Raymond.
There he was placed until 2022 when he was finally thawed out by a disgruntled scientist working there named Jochi Khan. Enraged at the stated of the world and Mongolia's place in it, Roman assumed the moniker of Genghis Jad, and quickly chess, in order to acquire the power of necromancy via a DESPER battle. It was an immense toll to constantly maintain the visages, which is why Jochi and some of his human pals took up some of the burden. But despite this, Jad had no problem reviving the Mongol empire. And in even better news, Russia's monarchy ended up being restored, with Tsar Grigori taking the thrown. Forging a close alliance, Grigori sought to help Jad revive the Mongol empire and soon that was close to reality.
But a setback appeared likely today as Jad was on the ropes against Okisato. Now unmasked, he let loose an angry roar along with murderous aura that spread throughout the entire playing hall.
"Таны арьс дэлхий даяар цацагдах болно [Your pelt will be strewn about the world]!" he shouted as he slammed his king down on c1.
Okisato stared in shock before he regained his sadistic composure. "No clue who you are, but if you're pissed off, good for me," he thought as he moved his pawn to c5.
All eyes were on this game as a war broke out with players slamming the pieces down like daggers as they played. Knight b5, bishop b8, a4, knight f4, rook d1, a6, knight a3, and fresh blood in the form of knight d3, check.
Jad now had to move his king to b1, further constraining his rook, while Okisato could play aggressively with bishop f4.
Jad hated the fact his rook was trapped and moved his king out to c2, not giving a care about the oncoming discovered check from the bishop at e4. "I'm going to flay him and pelt him with cannon volley!" he angrily thought as Okisato moved his pawn to c4.
Now Jad was free to move his a-rook, but next came the discovered check, curtesy of knight to c5. And the real kicker was that after king c1, that rook at b1 Jad worked so hard to get active, was captured by the bishop, further enraging Jad.
Despite Raymond's warning, Jad violently captured the knight at b1 with his bishop, this time giving a bit more of an overhead arc to the swing, sending the piece flying above everyone's heads.
"Ah, seems there's no reasoning with him. Well his tantrum will be over soon," Raymond sighed as Okisato moved his knight to b3.
It was back to c2 for Jad's king, but rather than continue the queen's side offensive, Okisato launched his pawn to g5, giving Jad a whole new problem.
"Би түүнийг алах гэж байна [I'm going to kill him]," Jad seethed in his mind as he moved his rook to e1.
Okisato decided the time was right to try and get another rook and a bishop and captured the bishop at d2 with his bishop.
"CHECK!" Jad shouted, saliva spewing out of his mouth, as he slammed his rook down on e8, shaking the entire table.
"Ugh, how long until mate?" Okisato thought to himself as he scowled and moved his king to f7.
Jad moved his rook to h8, preparing to capture and check, but Okisato delayed the play with some checks of his own. Bishop f4, check, king d1, Rook f1, check, king e2, and bye-bye knight with rook captures b1, leaving Jad with nothing but a rook and three pawns, all of which unable to progress either due to being blocked or the space in front of them being guarded. The h-pawn was chosen to march forth with Jad moving it to h4.
"Now that pawn finally moves again, 45 moves later. Hmm..."
Okisato went deep into thought, and a minute later, let loose his signature sadistic smile as he moved his pawn to g4. Jad delivered another check by capturing the pawn at h7 with his rook, but Okisato could see the end in in sight.
"So this is how the Mongol empire fell. It had an idiot like this guy trying to emulate Genghis Khan, but failing miserably," Okisato thought as he oved his king to g6.
Jad began to sense the tides turning, frustrating him ever more as he moved his rook to h8. But it wasn't there for long as king g7 sent it packing to h5. "That brat. I can't find any perpetuals!" he thought as Okisato moved his knight to c1.
Now it was only a matter of time before Okisato claimed victory, but Jad refused to go quietly. King f2, knight d3, check, king g2, knight e1, check, Jad was beginning to think maybe there was a perpetual check, but g3, check dashed that hope, sending the king to e2.
Rook b2, check, king d1, and knight d3 gave Jad a chance to move something other than his king. But it didn't matter as mate in 3 was the best he was gonna get.
With pure hatred in his eyes, Jad moved his rook to g5, delivering one final check. "Новш минь, миний судсанд их Чингис хааны цус бий. Би бол байлдан дагуулагч, Монгол байлдан дагуулагч! Чи зүгээр л шатар тоглож байгаа хүүхэд шүү дээ! Бид таны газар нутгийг байлдан дагуулж, дараа нь арьсыг чинь амьдаар нь хуулж, цогцсыг чинь газар даяар жагсаал хийх болно [You piece of shit, I have the blood of the great Genghis Khan in my veins. I am a conqueror, a Mongol conqueror! You're just some brat that can move pieces on a chessboard! We will conquer your land, and when we do, we'll skin you alive and parade your corpse through your country]!"
As soon as Jad finished his rant, Okisato shrugged and captured the rook at g5 with his bishop.
"БИ ЧАМАЙГ, УЛС ОРНЫГ БҮХЭЛД УСТГАХ БОЛНО [I'LL DESTROY YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE COUNTRY]!" Jad shouted as he captured the bishop at g5 with his h-pawn.
"Ugh, one more move," Okisato thought as he moved his pawn to g2.
And once Jad begrudgingly moved his pawn to a5, it was Okisato's turn to rant, and for added disrespect, he did it in Mongolian too. [Alright you wanna-be Mongol, you've been hurling pieces like a giant baby all game, breaking so many rules and disgracing your nation. No wonder Genghis Khan bounced back to hell, you're an incompetent buffoon of a leader. Bet your advisors carry you hard on everything. Now don't mess with Japan again, otherwise your ass will be the one crucified nude on a pole]. Checkmate, BA-KA!" he snickered as he moved his pawn to g1 and promoted it to a rook, winning the game.
Jad slammed his fists on the table, but collapsed from exhaustion a second later, leaving Orda and Jochi to carry him out.
Japan had bounced back with it's first 4-0 win of the tournament, also sending a message to Mongolia not to try and attack it, as it had far fiercer warriors on the chessboard than they thought, but perhaps none fiercer than Okisato and his savage diss.
