Chapter 1:

The New Path

Guided Steps

JJ Aromaj stepped off the bustling sidewalk, and the imposing gates of Fundamental Bible College and Institute swung open, beckoning him toward a new journey. The warm sun cast a divine glow upon the manicured lawns and sleek glass façade. Clad in his crisp white dress shirt and tailored black trousers, JJ began his walk toward his calling.

Preacher Leandro, resplendent in his navy suit, beamed with warmth as he extended a firm handshake. "Brother JJ, welcome to Fundamental! We've been praying for you."

Preacher Leandro escorted JJ to the administration office, where Mrs. Desiree Patel greeted them with a gentle smile. "JJ, please fill out these forms. We'll get you registered for classes."

Dean Ernelito Oakwood and Pastor Cito Patel welcomed JJ into a cozy, wood-paneled room. "So, JJ, share your testimony," Dean Oakwood invited.

JJ's voice filled with conviction. "After my father's passing, my mother remarried. Though difficult, my faith remained strong. I feel called to ministry."

A knock interrupted the interview. Maya, a bright-eyed, dark-haired girl with a captivating smile, entered. "Sorry to interrupt! I'm Maya, student leader. Welcome, JJ."

"Sorry to interrupt!" I exclaimed, smiling warmly as I entered the interview room. "I'm Maya, student leader. Welcome, JJ."

Preacher Leandro chuckled, nodding approvingly. "Perfect timing, Maya. JJ, Desiree will finalize your registration. Maya, show him around."

As we stepped into the sun-drenched hallway, JJ's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Thanks, Maya. This place feels amazing."

"I know, right?" I replied, leading him toward the cafeteria. "Fundamental's more than a college – it's family. You'll love it here."

Over lunch, JJ shared stories of his father's passing, his mother's remarriage, and his own spiritual quest. I listened attentively, sensing authenticity and vulnerability.

"My dad was my role model in faith," JJ said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "After he passed, everything changed. My mom remarried, but it's been tough adjusting."

I nodded empathetically. "I'm so sorry, JJ. Losing someone close is never easy."

JJ's eyes locked onto mine. "You understand?"

"My grandmother passed away last year," I shared. "It was tough, but my faith kept me strong."

Our conversation flowed effortlessly, like we'd known each other for years.

"What drew you to Fundamental?" I asked, intrigued.

JJ leaned in, passion igniting his eyes. "I want to deepen my understanding of Scripture and serve others. This college feels like home."

I smiled. "You'll fit right in. Our community's passionate about spreading God's love."

As we finished lunch, I glanced at my watch. "Want to explore campus? I'll show you the library and chapel."

Strolling across the lush grounds, JJ marveled at the modern architecture. "This place is stunning!"

I laughed. "Wait till you see our worship center – it's breathtaking."

Inside the chapel, sunlight streamed through stained glass windows, casting vibrant colors across the floor. JJ's eyes widened. "Wow...this is incredible."

As Maya and JJ strolled across the lush campus grounds, their conversation flowed effortlessly, weaving a tapestry of shared laughter, heartfelt moments and spiritual connections.

Maya gestured enthusiastically. "Our Church Choir is amazing! You should join us sometime."

JJ's eyes sparkled. "I'd love to! Music is my passion."

Maya grinned. "We'll get you plugged in. Maybe we can even write songs together."

JJ's expression turned thoughtful. "Maya, can I ask you something?"

"Of course, JJ," Maya replied, her voice gentle.

"How did you find strength after losing your grandmother?" JJ asked, his voice tinged with empathy.

Maya's eyes softened. "My faith carried me through. Prayers, journaling and supportive friends helped me heal."

JJ nodded, his gaze locked onto hers. "Thank you for sharing that. Losing my dad was tough."

Maya's hand instinctively reached out, offering a comforting touch. "You're not alone, JJ. We're here for you."

As they approached the student lounge, lively music drifted out. Maya's eyes sparkled. "Want to grab a coffee and meet some friends?"

JJ smiled. "Sounds perfect."

Inside, they found a cozy corner, surrounded by vibrant artwork and warm lighting. Maya introduced JJ to her friends: Rachel, a theology major, and Alex, a budding pastor.

Rachel asked JJ about his favorite Bible verses. Alex challenged him to a friendly debate on theology. Maya smiled, observing JJ's effortless integration into their circle.

As the afternoon sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the campus, Maya realized that JJ had seamlessly become part of their family.
