Chapter 329:

Gutter rat

En Passant Grandmaster

While Zsa Zsa had high hopes for a draw, they soured as she saw Okisato move his knight to e2. "He had another knight... Not for long!" she thought as she moved her pawn to f5.

Okisato masterfully dodged the attack by moving his knight to c5, but Zsa Zsa didn't let up and moved her king to d6. So to cool her down, Okisato delivered a check by moving his knight to b7, bringing the king back to c7. This time, the knight fled to a5, but Zsa Zsa was relentless and moved her king to b6.

"You sure like horses, and checks," Okisato snickered as he moved his knight to c4.

"I hate the former and only like the latter when I'm the one giving them," Zsa Zsa scoffed as she moved her king to c5.

Okisato once again went silent and moved his pawn to a3, as did Zsa Zsa when she moved her pawn to g5. The silence carried on as Okisato moved his king to d3 and Zsa Zsa moved her pawn to f4, but the tension was only increasing. And after Okisato captured the pawn at f4 with his g-pawn, the period of silence was over.

"Check, now get your damn knights off the board," Zsa Zsa snarled as she captured the pawn at f4 with her knight.

"Gladly," Okisato replied as he captured the knight at f4 with his knight.

"Zsa Zsa means both knights, not just this one," Zsa Zsa glared as she captured the knight at f4 with her g-pawn.

"Then sorry to disappoint, actually no I'm not. But this lone knight isn't up for sale," Okisato taunted as he moved his king to e4.

"It will be soon," Zsa Zsa snarled as she moved her pawn to h5.

"No it won't," Okisato retorted as he moved his pawn to h4.

"YES IT WILL!" Zsa Zsa shouted as she moved her pawn to a6.

"Well then just wait and see," Okisato smirked as he moved his king to e5.

Zsa Zsa shot him a look of disgust and moved her pawn to a5, but beneath their gazes, both players had something planned for the other, something each assumed would bring them victory.

The first step to both was Okisato capturing the pawn at a5 with his knight, which he did. Then came king b6, prompting Okisato to give yet another check, this time by moving his knight to c4. Zsa Zsa kept up the aggression and moved her king to c5, but thanks to the pawn, the knight was protected, so Okisato could move his king to e4 and focus elsewhere.

Zsa Zsa remained on the queen's side, shuffling her king to b5, giving Okisato the chance to capture the pawn at f4 with his king, but that was all according to plan.

"You must think you're doing good. Well Zsa Zsa's the best of the best, and doesn't lose to trash like you. This is a trap. Yes, a trap that will prove Zsa Zsa's superiority and decimate you to the dust you are!" Zsa Zsa thought as she moved her king to a6.

Okisato took notice of the fleeing king, and gave pursuit with his own king by moving it to e5. Zsa Zsa didn't abandon her pawn though, protecting it by moving her b7. But as Okisato moved his pawn to f4, Zsa Zsa proved her fickleness once more by moving her king to c8, leaving the pawn out in the cold.

"Wow, just gonna leave that pawn?" Okisato taunted as he moved his king to e6.

Zsa Zsa answered that by moving her king to d8, but ironically enough, Okisato could care less about the pawn on c6, which was great news for Zsa Zsa. He moved his pawn to f5, while Zsa Zsa moved her king to e8.

"Dang, didn't know you could run so much," Okisato whistled as he moved his pawn to f6.

"Zsa Zsa works out. Zsa Zsa runs a kilometer each morning, benches 100 pounds, and squats 100 as well," Zsa Zsa scowled as she moved her king to f8.

"I do 500 each, and an hour jog," Okisato replied as he moved his pawn to f7.

Zsa Zsa paid him no heed though and moved her king to g7, intent on making her plan a success. The spectators that were watching though were floored by the revelation of Okisato's workout regiment, but to Mimoko it wasn't all that surprising. She knew what monstrous muscles lurked under that plain red jacket of his.

"Tanabe-kun, you really do conceal your strength," she thought as Okisato moved his king to e7.

Now it was make or break for Zsa Zsa as with 5 minutes left on his clock, Okisato was in no danger of getting flagged, especially at this point. But Zsa Zsa had a chance to draw, meaning she'd win thanks to Armageddon rules being in effect. She just needed Okisato to make the right move after she moved her king to h7, and king to f6, was exactly said move.

"Yes! Now Zsa Zsa wins!" Zsa Zsa gleefully thought as she moved her pawn to c5, while maintaining her poker face.

And as Okisato grabbed his pawn and prepared to move it to f8 to promote it, Zsa Zsa's maniacal smile began to crack through. "You'll promote to a queen. You'll promote to a queen, because everyone does that, but you'll lose. You'll lose! Stalemate means it's a draw, and a draw means Zsa Zsa wins! Collette, we shall have our match proper!" she thought.

Indeed, if Okisato promoted to a queen, it would be stalemate and he would lose. Zsa Zsa naturally believed that when faced with a promotion, anyone would promote to a queen. However, there were some exceptions. The first were people that underpromoted, simply for the thrill, challenge, or desire to deliver a humiliating checkmate. And second, there were people that underpromoted when they realized doing so was the only way to avoid a stalemate. Okisato checked both those boxes and moved his pawn to f8, promoting it to a rook.

"Huh?"

The move left Zsa Zsa dumbfounded, her jaw hanging down with a flabbergasted smile on her face. "Th- This means mate. Z- Zsa Zsa can't lose to mate. Zsa Zsa must resign," she thought.

But in her daze, her hand nudged her king to h6, the only legal move it could make, thus giving Okisato the chance to move.

"NO! ZSA ZSA RE-"

"Checkmate! Too late to resign, ba-ka!" Okisato snickered as he quickly slammed his rook down on h8, winning the game.

Zsa Zsa began to tremble with fury as she swiped her hand through the pieces as they vanished alongside the board. "BAROMSÁG! KUKA VAGY! EGY MOCSKOS ERESZCSATORNA PATKÁNY! ZSA ZSA COLLETTE KIVÉTELÉVEL FELÜLMÚLHATATLAN! EZ BAROMSÁG! HOGY MERSZ [BULLSHIT! YOU ARE TRASH! A FILTHY GUTTER RAT! ZSA ZSA IS SECOND TO NONE EXCEPT COLLETTE! THIS IS BULLSHIT! HOW DARE YOU]-"

"Hogy vagyok ereszcsatorna patkány [How am I a gutter rat]?" Okisato asked, causing Zsa Zsa to go silent.

"Huh? Y- You-"

"Azt hitted, hogy nem értelek meg, amikor magyarul sértegettél? Kezdettől fogva megértettem. Most hadd viszonozzam a szívességet, te ráncos öreg patkány szuka. Hearing such a vicious tongue lashing in her native language, from someone she assumed didn't speak it, caused Zsa Zsa to short circuit. Tears oozed out of her eyes as a meek chuckle escaped her lips before she fainted and fell face-first to the ground, hitting it with a dull thud.

"And now we can cross, Inoue-senpai," Okisato nodded as his deadpan persona returned.

But just as he was about to step over Zsa Zsa, Okisato redirected his foot, stepping over her instead.

"You're not going to walk over her?" Collette sighed as she handed Okisato his 1000 euro cash prize.

"Why would I step on a piece of shit?"

If Zsa Zsa hadn't already fainted from shock, that remark sure would have made her. She had been humiliated. And worse, her troubles were only beginning as Mimoko's lip began to ache.

"Tanabe-kun, could you check up on Iori-chan and Maida-sensei on your own? I want to... play puzzle battle with Zsa Zsa-san," she smiled.

Okisato nodded and headed out while Daria and some of the others hauled Zsa Zsa over to a chair, bounding and gagging her with duct tape. When she awoke, she was terrified, frantically struggling and attempting to scream, but unable to thanks to the duct tape. She could at least move her wrist, enough to do puzzle battle without being at a significant disadvantage.

"Now, we're going to play a little chess, Zsa Zsa-san, and I'm not letting you go until either you win a round, or I have my fill. And right now, I think it'll be the latter. I'm Mimoko Inoue, a 2809-rated grandmaster. Let's have some fun, shall we?"

For the first time in her life, Zsa Zsa was truly terrified.
