Chapter 343:

Mimoko vs Xiu

En Passant Grandmaster

In the time Okisato and Miralem had stepped away to return to their game, some significant action had occurred in the game between Mimoko and Xiu. It started out with the bold queen to c2 play by Xiu, to which Mimoko responded to by moving her pawn to h6. But after Xiu moved her rook to a7, Mimoko made a slight misstep by moving her bishop to b7, erasing the slight edge she had and bringing things even once more. But then the edge was back as Xiu moved her bishop to d3, failing to find the winning move of bishop captures a6.

Mimoko noticed this and moved her knight to d7, while Xiu, seemingly unaware that she missed an important move, moved her pawn to b4 while maintaining her usual smug and flirty grin. And after knight f6, and a king's side castle, Xiu had every reason to feel fine as Mimoko mad a misstep and moved her queen to f4, bringing things back into drawish territory.

"Ah, poor wittle Mimo can't find a way through. Maybe I should offer- Nah, she wouldn't accept a draw. She's hungry for a win, meaning I gotta hold her off the old fashioned way," Xiu thought as she moved her f-rook to a1.

Mimoko's eyes widened at the play, causing her to think for a second before capturing the pawn at e4 with her knight.

"WHERE YOUR EYES LOOKING, GIRL!? SHIT'S GOING DOWN OVER HERE!" Xiu maniacally thought as she captured the pawn at a6 with her bishop.

Mimoko captured said bishop with her bishop, but Xiu expected that and captured said bishop with her rook. "Now, it's a draw. It's either draw, or blunder, take your pick, Mimo!" Xiu sneered in her mind.

Mimoko stared at the board. It truly was a perilous pitfall, but only if she didn't find the winning move. Her next move would be the decisive move of the game.

"Hmm, this is looking drawish, but I think I have an edge. But if so, where do I move to maintain it? Knight f6? No. F5? Not good either. ... D5!"

As Mimoko frantically moved her pawn to d5, Xiu stared in disbelief. "... Huh? Um, excuse me, the fuck is this!?" she angrily thought.

D5 was the one move Xiu hadn't seen. And now that Mimoko had played it, she now had a significant edge, one that would only increase if Xiu failed to find the best move of 6-rook to a5.

Xiu's smirk vanished as her smug flirtatious mask shattered, revealing pure venom and hatred. "You think you're hot shit just cuz you found d5!? Well fuck you!" Xiu seethed in her mind as she slammed her 1-rook down on a5.

Everyone watching stared intently. Perhaps they were more nervous than the players themselves, an arguable fact as the one that was the calmest was none other than Mimoko.

"She moved the wrong rook to a5. It's over," Mimoko thought as she captured the pawn at c3 with her knight.

The play quickly brought back Xiu's smug mask as she thought this meant Mimoko was giving up a knight. And indeed, after Xiu captured the knight at c3 with her queen, Mimoko only had one winning move she had to find, which naturally, she had already seen ages ago.

As soon as pawn to d4 was on the board, Xiu's venomous scowl returned. "Excuse me!? Bullshit... THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT!" she nearly shouted aloud as she furiously slammed her pawn down on g3.

Neither the play, nor Xiu's attitude shift phased Mimoko as she moved her queen to g5, though the latter did sadden her a bit. "So Mei-mo-san is like those who are upset about my presence. A shame, or perhaps she's just frustrated on how the game went. That is understandable, she looked like she didn't even expect d5 to be played, but that's the reality of chess. Hopefully, we can happily go over the game together when this is over," she thought.

But her hopes were far off as Xiu truly hated her from the bottom of her heart. "I'm not going to yield to you, I'm not going to become your stepping stone, I'M THE QUEEN OF CHESS!" Xiu seethed in her mind as she slammed her queen down on c7.

Mimoko shook her head and captured the knight at d3 with her pawn.

"Oh, you think I'm making an empty threat, huh!? Well try calling THIS empty!" Xiu shouted in her mind as she captured the pawn at e5 with her rook.

But it truly was an empty threat, as Mimoko could simply move her queen to g4, which she did. Xiu wanted blood though, and captured the pawn at e3 with her rook, but that allowed Mimoko to go for the win, and move her rook to d1.

"Check."

More disbelief and anger found it's way to Xiu's face as she realized the situation she was in. "I don't go king g2, it's mate... I DON'T GO KING G2 IT'S MATE, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?" Xiu nearly screeched aloud as she slammed her king down on g2.

In this scenario, Mimoko knew what to do, which was to move her queen to h5.

But Xiu still had one last trick up her sleeve. "CHECK! EAT SHIT, YOU FUCKING WHORE!" Xiu shouted as she captured the rook at b8 with her queen.

This time, Mimoko was taken aback, as were many of the people watching. "So that's how it is... A shame," Mimoko thought as she dejectedly moved her king to h7.

"Huh? The hell are you giving me that dejected look for, huh? You made the right fucking move, dammit! YOU WANNA SHOW SOME DAMN RESPECT FOR ME, THEN RESIGN NOW! CHECK!" Xiu shouted as she violently captured the pawn at h6 with her rook, sending said pawn hurdling off.

Mimoko let out a disappointed sigh, and shot Xiu a disappointed glare, as she captured the rook at h6 with her g-pawn. Xiu's teeth began clattering in fury as she slammed her pawn down on g4, taking yet another swing at Mimoko's queen. But just like before, she dodged it with ease, and moved her queen to h1.

"Check. Mei-mo-"

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Xiu shouted as she slammed her king down on g3.

Mimoko let out another disappointed sigh, and moved her rook to g1. "I'll forgo the verbal lecture, but Mei-mo-san, I'm very disappointed by your unsportsmanlike behavior," she thought as Xiu moved her king to f4.

Around this time, Okisato and Miralem returned. Seeing the look on Xiu's face was both surprising and not for Okisato though.

"I bet she feels threatened by Inoue-senpai. It's natural, but there is still decorum," Okisato thought as Mimoko moved her queen to h2.

At this point, it was simply a matter of many moves it would be until mate, as the chances of Xiu resigning looked slim to none. Rook g3, queen captures f2, check, king e4, rook captures g3, king d5, queen d2, check, king c6, rook c3, check, king b6, queen d4, check, and after king a6, the end was in sight.

"Mate in 4 at the longest. She played a tough game, but Mimoko Inoue played a better one," Peter thought as Mimoko moved her rook to c6.

"Oi, is Xiu really about to lose!? That means we're gonna get swept!" Bao thought as Xiu moved her king to b7.

"Well damn, Japan's women are gonna sweep China. Guess that means Jasmina's gonna be pissed she couldn't witness such a moment," Miralem thought as Mimoko moved her queen to d7.

"Reap what you sow! I for one am glad you're finally getting knocked off your high horse. But still... I DON'T WANT TO GET SWEPT BY DARIA'S TEAM, DAMMIT!" Xiao Lin fumed in her mind as Xiu moved her queen to c7.

"And that's mate in 1," Okisato thought as Mimoko captured the queen at c7 with her queen.

Xiu's entire body trembled with fury as she moved her king to a8. Her rage was getting to the point where it would be uncontrollable, only needing a trigger to set it off. And that trigger was checkmate.

"Checkmate," Mimoko stated as she moved her rook to a6, winning the game.

Japan had now officially beaten China 4-0, continuing their perfect victory streak.

Ginji stared in disbelief at what he had just witnessed. "Oi, oi, you gotta be kidding me! I knew Xiao Lin was a jobber, but Iori was sick, and Bao and Xiu are elite... SO HOW THE HELL DID CHINA JUST GET SWEPT!?" he furiously thought as his anger began to make it's way to his face.

However, he was far from being the angriest person right now.

As Mimoko attempted to shake Xiu's hand, Xiu furiously swatted it away.

"Mei-mo-"

"FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU! YOU JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND NOW YOUR THE PEAK OF WOMEN'S CHESS!? BULLSHIT! I'M THE QUEEN! I'M CHINA'S NEXT MAESTRO!" Xiu shouted as she smacked away all the pieces on the board. "FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! YOU GOT A FREE PASS TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE ALL BECAUSE YOU'RE GOOD AT SEEING THINGS! I WAS GRINDING MY ASS OUT SINCE I WAS 3! AND YOU, YOU JUST ENTER THE SCENE AT 18, UNRATED, 1 MONTH AGO, AND NOW YOU'RE TOP OF THE WORLD!? FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! 去用便便涂抹你的头,然后把它塞进垃圾桶 [GO SMEAR YOUR HEAD WITH SHIT AND SHOVE IT IN THE TRASH]!"

Almost everyone was taken aback by Xiu's outburst, the exceptions being Peter, Red Reaper, and Raymond.

"And her true face is out in the open. She'll have to deal with the aftermath," Peter thought as he began to head off.

"Look at her rant. This will be excellent psychological torture for Mimoko Inoue. At least, that's the hope. The oni-tiger will likely console her to bring her back to form, but if this does rattle her, it will make things easier for the women," Red Reaper thought as he headed off as well.

Xiu meanwhile was still breathing heavily as a squad of arbiters began gathering the pieces she knocked over.

"Do you need some time to cool off at WWCF HQ?" Raymond asked.

Xiu shot him a glare, but shook her head.

"Than shake her hand."

Xiu scoffed and spit in her palm, but before she could even extend said hand, Raymond slammed his cane into her stomach, stopping her in her tracks as she slumped down to the ground in pain.

"One day's suspension, though I'll allow you to stay in Budapest and attend the Bermuda party. But the morning of the 7th round, you'll be forbidden from setting foot in the playing hall. The spectator area is fine though," Raymond stated as he walked away.

Tao, who had been sitting out for the round, sighed as she helped Bao pull Xiu to her feet. "Xiu, have you really been this agitated this whole time?" she thought as her and Bao began dragging Xiu away.

Xiao Lin was also shocked, but slightly more gleeful about Xiu losing her cool. "Well that certainly felt nice. Perhaps I'll mandate she ink the game log for this game on her back. Oh that would be wonderful," she thought as she began to head out.

However, she accidentally snagged her cane on the chair Iori was sleeping on, causing her to trip and fall, sending her wig tumbling off, revealing her bald and inked head to all.

"Oh, now that is a humiliating game. Though you're lucky it was the boy you faced instead of me," Daria thought as Jia rushed to help Xiao Lin up.

Mimoko meanwhile, just stared blankly.

"Are you alright?" Okisato asked.

"... I don't know. On one hand, I'm shaken by what she did and said, but on the other, she was punished for her unsportsmanlike behavior. Frustration is a part of the game, but controlling it is a true sign of character. I thought Mei-mo-san was a better person. She proved she's got the skill to give me a run for my money, but her attitude..."

"Don't let it phase you. That was her true persona right there. She was never anyone's friend, just a girl sporting a smiling face in order to toy with her prey, but you wrestled that mask off her. Now she'll have to suffer the consequences of her actions."

Mimoko smiled and nodded, agreeing that while it was a bit saddening, Okisato was right; she shouldn't let someone like Xiu get her bent out of shape.

"She'll likely become a rival anyway, though I doubt her hostilities towards you will decrease," Okisato stated as he began carrying Iori on his back.

"I suppose. A shame, I was hoping for another friendly rival like Noa-chan, but if she's a hostile rival, then I'll crush her with no remorse and beat into respect on the chessboard," Mimoko nodded as she clenched her fist.
