Chapter 351:
En Passant Grandmaster
At the hotel, Maida crossed her arms as Iori kneeled before her. "You know why you're in trouble, young lady?"
"I snuck out?"
"Yes, but in retrospect, it was the right judgement call. But just what possessed you to kiss someone else while sick?"
"I didn't mean to!"
Iori quickly explained what happened on the bus, but Maida was still skeptical. "The French team is claiming you assaulted one of their members, yet you claim it was an accident. Do you have proof, or perhaps know of someone who might have witnessed the event in question?"
Iori thought for a moment. "How about Alya?"
"And any others?"
"Hmm, Anastasia, maybe?"
"Noted."
"If you're going to search for testimonies, I'd recommend approaching Anastasia first," Okisato suggested.
"Why's that?"
"Because if we have Alya testify, she might make a false testimony just to hurt Alya, or at best, a testimony which doesn't help prove Iori-chan's innocence. But if we ask her first for a testimony without any mention of Alya, we could get a good testimony out of her."
"I see. I believe the Ukrainian team is eating nearby. Shall we approach them?"
Okisato nodded and began to head out. Azenira and Ryonosuke ended up being fine and were back in their rooms resting, meaning they would likely be able to participate in the next round of the tournament, but that didn't decrease Okisato's anger towards Ginji any less. He had an idea on why he was doing all this, but he wanted to hear it, or at least try to wrangle it, from the horse's mouth. But confronting him was on hold, both due to him not being around, and because Iori's innocence needed to be proven.
But as he approached the Ukrainian team, he encountered a problem.
"Iyah, I thought only the host nation could have B and C teams, so why does Russia get a B team?" Ginji sneered.
The line naturally got him death glares from all the Ukrainians present.
"Oi, wanna say that again?" Pinkus glared as he stood up.
"As many times as need be! Ah, Oki-chwan says the same thing! You all are just a- OOGYOO!?"
Before Ginji could try and make things worse, Okisato slugged him in the face, sending him flying a few feet into a nearby table. This action left the Ukrainians baffled, and the four people who's food had now been scattered by Ginji, agitated.
"Uh, think now's the time we get an explanation," Ores grumbled.
"Gladly. Our team does not echo his sentiments, in fact, we hate him and wish he'd get off our team with how much he's been sabotaging us."
"Oi, oi, Oki-chwan, no need to get all heartless on me just cuz I'm in a slump," Ginji pouted as he got up.
"Then why'd you chloro Azenira-chan and Hobou-san? You also force-fed them something that made them hurl all over the place. That's grounds for kicking you out, tenfold."
"And I have grounds to sue! You flung that man into my food!" a man with red hair and a comedically waxed goatee and mustache fumed as he and his three compatriots stormed over.
"Yeah, ya wrecked the din. Pay up, cuz we don't want the vamp to try n' swindle us out of anymore blood," a bespectacled girl with long red hair glared.
"This guy doesn't look like he's anything impressive, probably has only a cent or two on him," a man in a red tracksuit sneered.
"A bit harsh you three. Ah, we should introduce ourselves. I'm Raluca Chițu of the Romanian women's team," a woman with short strawberry blonde hair smiled.
"Ionela Cozma," the red-haired girl snarled.
"Chiril Savchenko. I'm Romania's next hottest thing," the man in the red tracksuit snickered.
"And I'm the man that will be suing you, Ionuț Bălașa!" the red-haired man fumed.
"Lovely, more trouble. Do I need to simul you all in chess to get what I want?"
"And what exactly is that?" Vesna glared.
"A testimony from one of your teammates."
"Elaborate," a bespectacled girl with short blue and yellow hair glared.
"Earlier today, your teammate, Anastasia, was on a bus where my teammate, Iori Ishikiridokoro, ended up kissing Mimosa Utsugi of the French team. This has become an incident due to both Mimosa and her sister Alice getting sick. They claim Iori-chan violently assaulted Mimosa, but Iori-chan claims she only fell on top of Mimosa after launching herself through the window, resulting in her unintentionally tumbling into Mimosa and kissing her. Anastasia was present, so I was wondering if she'd be willing to testify."
"Please, why would we want those damn-"
Before Ginji could get another word in, Okisato socked him in the face once more, sending him flying towards another table.
"Wow, talk about in-fighting. But you said that guy was sabotaging you, I can see why," a girl with short blue hair nodded.
"A bit hasty in judgement, Oksana. We don't even know who this man is," a blonde-haired girl frowned.
"And who are all you? I'm Okisato Tanabe," Okisato stated.
"Lyubov Yarema," the bespectacled girl glared.
"Oksana Udovychenko. The blondie's my big sister, Mira," the blue-haired girl stated.
"Udovychenko? As in the Udovychenko sisters, Ukraine's top female chess players?" Okisato asked.
"Damn right. ... Very well. It seems you are believable," Mira sighed as she looked up Okisato on her WWCH card.
"A bit hasty. Mira, what makes you suddenly convinced he's good? He could be in cahoots with that foul man," Lyubov scowled.
"Чи роз'яснення речей рідною мовою допомогло б прояснити ситуацію більше [Would clarifying things in your native language help clarify the situation more]?"
All the Ukrainians froze.
"Y- You speak Ukrainian? A- Are you part Ukrainian?"
"Ні, я просто поліглот, який кілька хвилин тому вивчив українську [No, I'm just a polyglot who learned Ukrainian a few minutes ago]."
"Whoa, buddy. You don't just learn languages in a few minutes," Ores nervously chuckled.
"Este posibil. Și, după cum puteți auzi, sunt într-adevăr un polyglot [It is possible. And, as you can hear, I'm really a polyglot]," Okisato stated, this time shocking the Romanians.
"Whoa... Sorry man, I really misjudged ya. I'm actually from Ukraine, so I know both Ukrainian and Romanian. That was solid, like you could pass as a native," Chiril nodded, genuinely impressed by Okisato's mastery of multiple languages.
It looked as though he finally had everyone calmed down, but then a third party entered the mix.
"Oi, the fuck you just hurl into my dinner," a red-haired woman with a black eagle tattooed on her chest snarled as she walked over, cracking her knuckles.
Okisato let out a heavy sigh as he recognized the woman. Her name was Fjolla Gjonaj. She was originally just the leader of a mid-sized Albanian gang, but had clawed her way up to become the president of Albania.
Two women, one dressed in all green, and one in all white, stood at each side of Fjolla, ready to throw hands at a moments notice. Their names were Blerta-Soraya Yeganeh, and Yekta Dirbaz, respectively. As her name suggested, Blerta had an affinity for the color green, and while she was part of Soraya clan, she was also one of Fjolla's top enforcers. Yekta on the other hand was a reporter, whose allegiances lied solely with Fjolla.
"So you are the famed oni-tiger. I've heard of you. So will you be paying for my meal, or will I be paying for it using your friend's money?" Fjolla glared as she threw off her jacket, exposing the black eagle tattoo on her back.
This was proving to be too much for Okisato. He didn't want to simul everyone when he himself was a bit exhausted from his match against Miralem. The problem was, there wasn't any getting out of this. At least, not on his own.
Suddenly, a humanoid tankman came rolling over, and began charging up particles of energy in it's turret-like head. "ARTILJERIJA!" it shouted as it fired off a blast.
Okisato took the chance to make his escape, returning to the table where his team was.
"Yo! Looks like shit's going down!" Iori grinned as she attempted to film things.
"We'll order Ubel eats. To the room everyone!" Okisato shouted as he began dragging Iori along with him.
Everyone else took the cue and began following after him.
"Tanabe-kun, just what happened over there?" Mimoko thought.
As the smoke cleared, Fjolla scowled as she realized Okisato was gone. "Yekta, I want data on all Japan's members. And get Miralem on the phone to ask him why the hell he's got a damn weapon running around the place!"
Yekta nodded and pulled out her WWCF card as he others coughed and waved away the smoke.
"Ugh, was that thing a Bosnian weapon? Never seen anything like that. But wait, if it's here, does that mean it plays chess? But I thought the Bosnians had full teams. Well, that Okisato guy seems to have ditched. Seriously, who is that guy, and what's he really after?" Ores grumbled.
"When next I see Anastasia, I'll ask her what she knows about him," Vesna grumbled.
