Chapter 28:
Engulfed in Darkness - Becoming a Villain in Another World
Hiroshi let go of Tomokazu’s arm, gritting his teeth in anger. His eyes dark with rage, he decided to release more manna to combat the pure strength of the God’s child. He unsheathed his sword once more. He was frustrated that he couldn’t slash Tomokazu’s hand off when he tried to protect Wisteria. He was too slow, and his battle IQ was nowhere near top level.
He knew he needed this mentor more than anyone.
Tomokazu began thinking further ahead, smirking to himself. He understood Hiroshi’s situation. He was getting desperate. If he could just hold out for just a bit longer, he could obliterate Hiroshi where he was standing.
At that moment, Tomokazu felt something cold and sharp enter his stomach. It happened so suddenly. He was too focused on Hiroshi, that he didn’t notice Wisteria making up the distance between them to stab him with her frozen blade. She twisted the blade and grinned to herself.
“Maybe you are just an incompetent bitch,” she sneered, as ice exploded out of her sword, ripping open Tomokazu’s insides. He coughed and spluttered. However, his body almost immediately healed from the attack. Hiroshi looked on in awe. If healing properties like that were present in his own world, so many lives could be saved from accidents and tragedies daily.
Unfortunately, Hiroshi almost instantaneously forgot about this world marveling wonder and noticed Tomokazu’s lip, which used to be perfectly red and clean.
A small trickle of blood had dried in at the corner of his mouth. Hiroshi smiled to himself, full of evil intent.
“So, you can bleed,” he winked at Tomokazu. In a rage, Tomokazu slammed his clenched fist into Hiroshi's chest, causing him to fly to the other side of the arena. Hiroshi was still smiling to himself like a psychopath.
Tomokazu could be killed. He wasn't immortal.
“In an interesting turn out, Blossoming Flower has intervened and hurt Tomokazu!” Alexander announced to the crowd, who were cowering in their seats in fear. Alexander was also afraid for his own life. He didn’t want to announce a winner, or say that Tomokazu left the arena, or that Hiroshi had cheated using Wisteria for a helping hand.
It would be suicide.
With a vicious yell, Tomokazu jumped into the air. Hiroshi managed to gain some space between himself and his opponent. Just as his foe was about to land on the hard, concrete floor, Hiroshi got on his hunkers and slammed his fist into the arena’s surface. Tomokazu looked onward in curiosity, expecting to see Hiroshi’s hand completely mutilated and broken. However, not a single drop of blood left Hiroshi’s hand. Instead, the darkness spread out across the arena, swallowing the ground whole.
Tomokazu was swallowed by the darkness. The crowd gasped in horror. The man with the transmitter in the crowd tipped his fedora up to see the arena clearer and spoke into the device once again.
“Utsu! Where are you? It’s definitely him! Ten minutes out? Try five minutes! Get here immediately!” the man almost came off as desperate for help. He needed Utsu and the other to arrive soon, or else things would take a really bad turn.
Just then, Tomokazu exploded out of the darkness, laughing the whole time. Hiroshi, stunned that Tomokazu wasn’t consumed whole, jumped at his opponent, wrapping his arms around his waist and smashing him into the floor. This time, he managed to slash his sword downwards, attempting to cut his face vertically down the middle. Tomokazu blocked the katana, an inch from his face, and began pushing against Hiroshi’s strength with relative ease.
With only one hand, Tomokazu slowly pushed Hiroshi’s blade away from him, and used his strong foot to kick him in the stomach, to send him flying away once more. Hiroshi got up quickly and charged at Tomokazu. Tomokazu unsheathed his sword and lifted up his hands to his face. With a loud scream, Hiroshi aimed to take Tomokazu’s head off with five quick slashes.
Tomokazu dodged them all easily, and when he found an open window to strike, he used his index finger on his right hand and flicked Hiroshi in the forehead, which sent him flying backwards once more to the edge of the arena.
“Pathetic, human. You betray me and the Gods, along with your stupid friend, and try to kill me. Do you think you deserve mercy? Why don’t you beg for it? You can’t do anything to me. Go on! Beg me not to kill you!” Tomokazu chuckled to himself, before addressing the crowd. “Don’t you worry, everybody! I, Tomokazu Onuki, as a future God, will protect you from any harm that comes your way!”
There was a long pause. The silence was deafening. After a while, one person clapped. Then another. Another after that. Soon enough, the whole crowd was cheering and clapping, back to their normal selves.
“Tomokazu is so cool!”
“He saved us!”
“That Shinigami man is so evil! Thank you for protecting us!" The crowd cheered out, much to Hiroshi's annoyance.
Hiroshi grumbled under his breath and held his stomach in pain. His forehead was bleeding profusely, and he felt sick in his mouth. He couldn’t win. He felt so useless and weak. Even with his power, the Gods seemed to be untouchable. Just as he thought he might kill the Gods and bring peace to the world.
He couldn’t even kill the child of a God.
Just as he was about to collapse from exhaustion and give up, he heard a familiar voice.
“Hiroshi, I think it's time I take over. Let me execute the plan I had from the very beginning,” Kuro-Yami reassured his only friend. “This is what I planned for.”
