Doll

Monika sat on the chair, holding her old doll.

“When you came into my life, I hated you”, she said softly.

“You were supposed to be the most cherished gift a girl could have, but you only reminded me of all the things… I never had. A family that loves you, friends…you know.”

“I hated you for this, but I could never bring myself to hurt you. I hurt myself many, many times and all those people that tried to help me, too. But never you. Some part of me wanted you to be happy and have all the love and care that I never had.”

“I kept going for so many years, just for you. Who would take care of you if I were gone…you know?”

“I gave you my heart, and you kept it safe for so many years.”

“Until I meet Rina... Of course, you remember it. She was the first person ever I let to meet you.”

“You trusted her, too, and you gave me back my heart knowing that she will not hurt me”

“You believed in me, in us...”

“Now, you have a big family too...” Monika smiled and looked at the other dolls sitting on her desk.

“Please take care of them until my daughter is old enough to know that having a doll is not a silly thing”
