Chapter 1:

Harpie Holland: The Life of An Unemployed That Change Into Wild Beast

Harpy x Harpie: Switcharoo

"Harpie!!! We're going out for lunch. Get yo ass down here, right now!", shouted Mom.

For 20 years of my life, I've been questioning my existence in life. I've always wondered why this process of life has to be repeated over, and over, and over again.
I mean I get it, I needed this education to get work and that work experience to survive. But at the same time, why? Why do I have to do it? We'll end up under the dirt again anyway.
Why can't I just be... free?

"HAAAAARRRRPIEEE"
"Yeah, yeah, mom. I'm coming."

There she goes again. I hate when she shouts like that. Did she ever think that her son would feel like those demi-humans? Feel like a slave that has to do all their master told them to do. I have always been feeling that way, even when I was a kid.

"Jesus Christ, why are you so slow? Look! Your dad and sister already waiting in the car. Come on"
"Ma, can we take things slow? Like come on, I was just finishing my game."
"Game? Huh, is that what is always on your mind? Come one, Harp, you're twenty. Find a job or something. Help your old man support this family. Or better support your own. You haven't even found a girlfriend or boyfriend, have you?"
"Ma, stop lah. I'm trying my best."

When I was in the car, I kept thinking to myself. Is there any way I can just be myself and never overthink things or others and simply live free?

"Come on bro. Cheer up a little bit. We're having lunch together. We should spend it with happiness"
That was my 12-year-old sister. She is annoying and never stops bothering me.
"I better be in a sad mood than spending time with you."
"MOOOM, DAAAAD. Harpie's being mean again."
Oh, come on! It was still a 5-minute ride. Can't we have at least a silent ride.

"Harpie! Apologize to your sister or I will make you."
I always wondered why my dad had this scary aura around him whenever he was talking to me. I mean he was only saying things like that to me, it should not be that scary.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry... Heily"
*pinch hand*
"Ouch! What was that for?"
"Call me by my name!"
"Ugh... Fine! Sorry, Hermani."
"Teehee, apology accepted"
"Yeah, whatever."

Again! I hate it with guts. Thankfully after that awful 30-minute-ish ride, we arrived at our destination. With the luckiest timing ever, I actually met up with my good buddy from high school.

"Yooo, Jimmy."
I waved at him and he waved back at me. Then I turned to ask my parents.
"Ma, Pa. Can I?"
Both of them looked at each other and sighed.
My father looked at me in the eyes and said, "Have fun! But when you finish, don't be going around at night. Those times are when demi-humans roam about in the wild. They can't be tamed or talked to."
"I know Dad. I'll be going."

Hey, on the bright side. My folks always want the best for me. It's just that, it's hard when they put pressure into it whenever they brought them up when we're talking.

"Hey Harp. How are you doing?"
"The usual, upload some video to my VidCo channel before my parents drag me to WacBuffo. I'm getting through the grind though. I got more than 100 views for last week's video."
"Ey, that's progress. How about we celebrate it with chicken wings? My treat."
"Thanks, man. You're the best."
"Nah, don't mention it. I just want my buddy to succeed like me."

Jimmy Cooper, 20-years-old, just like me. He was a top student back when we were high schoolers. And right now the dude is going through university with a part-time job.

"What??!! Are you actually getting more money than the other employee there?"
"Bro, calm down. You don't need to shout."
"Ah, sorry. So, you want to share it with me, right now?"
"Yup. I was thinking of inviting Bodie. He would love to be here but you are already here, so why not?"

That's right. We two actually have other friends. A couple actually, Bodie Katapuka is one of them and let me tell you, he is big. Like muscle big. I don't know how he became so much bigger than all of us in the group. Like bro, 187 cm. That is not a normal height to have when you were in high school.

"So, what's your plan for the evening, Harp? Wanna hang out?"
"Hmm, I don't know. My parents probably going to be mad if I go home after 9 and I probably going to find those demi-humans if I am out for a long time. Yeah, I should just walk home now."
"Alright then. Be careful on your way home."

Well, back to being alone again. I guess that's how life is, right? The day went by and most of them you spent with yourself. Me? Contemplating about life because that's honestly the only thing that I can think of, right that moment. Until...

"Hehehe."
I heard a laughter on my way back to home. It was coming from a dark alleyway.
"Eh, hello? Who is there?"
"I can hear your desire to be free in the wild coming out of you so clearly child. Tell me, what's your most desired wish?"
My dad told me that demi-human would come out into the wild at 9. This is still 8 though. Who is this? My thought was running wild.
"Why the silent treatment?"
Oh, shit she coming closer to me!
"Are you perhaps don't believe me? O dear, I offended."
"Huh? A witch? Wait, hold on a second. I thought we, humans, have made you extinct. At least, that's what history lessons had told me in school. How come you are still here?"
"Witch, hmm."
Oh God. Her left eye just popped up and stretched towards me. I had to back out.
"I've never heard humans call me that. Witch was an extinct creature sure, but I'm different, boy. I'm what people call a magician."
"Oh, a magician, huh?"
"Uh-huh, that's right."
"A human that steals witch or warlock or wizard magic to use it as content on social media?"
"What?"

I talked to her to buy some time while I dialed 642 for law enforcement. I kept myself cool and even teased her a little bit while trying to get the most out of her information so that the cops or hunter could hear our conversation.

"Enough already! Just tell me your most desired wish."
"I don't have one. So, scram."

I dashed out of the alleyway entrance and ran to my house.

"Oh, ho ho. You don't need to wish it now, you know. The effect will come naturally."
That was the last line I heard from that lady. Hopefully, she will get what she deserves by tomorrow.

I came back to my house and went to sleep.
"Ugh, what a day."
Like always I complained before I went to sleep.
"That lady back then was so weird. What did she mean by that?"
Then I wished for something that I shouldn't.
"I wish tomorrow would be a good day. I just want to be free from this nonsense."
And that wish completely changed my life.

Upon opening my eyes, I was hardly able to see in front of me.
"Huh? What's with this wind? It's so windy today. Did mom or sister open the window?"
I heard a gawk next to me, I looked both ways and saw what seemed to be two Harpies on my left and one to my right. After processing what I had just seen, I fell from the sky-high into a pool of water.
