Chapter 2:
Harpy x Harpie: Switcharoo
As a Harpy, I, Eileen Hawkeen, have tried my best to be the strongest beyond my peers. And I really improved throughout the years. I've been training, studying, and even experiencing the way of Harpies.
"Eileen!! We have to go to the Lamkuang Mountain for your ceremony!"
Ah, yes. That's my mom. She has always been so forward with me. She is a role model for me, my friends, and my sisters.
"EILLEEN!! Come on, girl! We need to go now!"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming."
"Just choose your casual clothes. I know you want to look your best in this, but the real ceremony is tomorrow."
"Alright, Mom. Just hold on!"
I was not because I had a hard time choosing my clothes alright. I was nervous about this ceremony. Today was literally the day when I learned all about my species. How I became me, and how to survive in the wild like this was insanely important for me. Plus this ceremony was done on my 200th birthday, how could I not be nervous?
"Geeze, you took longer than a Squonk at midnight."
"Mooom!"
"Alright, alright! Let's take a flight!"
"Okay."
"Wait!"
"What is it?"
"Remember what I told you about flight?"
"Ughh... We have to fly lower so humans can't shoot us."
"Aaaaand?"
With an annoyed face, I said, "If we encounter one, either kill them with my wing claw or feet claw."
"Good! Let's fly now"
Yeah, that was my mom, always triple-checking everything. Now we had to travel at least 100 meters or 328 feet above the ground, just a little bit below the trees of the forest we lived in to reach the feet of Lamkuang Mountain. The travel went by about 10 minutes or so.
"Okay Eileen, wait here. I will get the other harpies."
"Yeehawk, ma."
And there she went as her take-off wind blew into me. A role model, huh?
I became more curious about this, for 19 years of my life I never learned about the outside world other than the forest, this mountain, and humans. Are they really that dangerous? Or did Mom want to keep me away from them?
"Hey Eileen, I see you arrive early."
"Oh hey, Yeen. Nah, my Mom wanted to take me here so she could pick up the other girls too."
"Ah, okay. I'm here now. Well, shall we enter?"
"Nah, I'll wait for my Mom. You can go ahead."
"Alright, see you in there."
"See you!"
After waiting about 3 minutes, my mom came back and we went into the interior of the mountain. Now, I have never actually been inside here for my whole life so I was so surprised when I actually stepped in the mountain. It was a stunning look, the wall was shining, and the floor was very pretty. There were a lot of statues of my ancestors as we continued walking to the hall.
"Alright girls, we are going to get lunch first before our main event of today so eating here."
Everyone was walking inside the built-in cafeteria, except for me.
"Mom, what are we having today?"
"Hehehe, it's a special dish. You'll like it."
That was... weird. I had never seen Mom laughing like that.
"Lunch will be over if you don't hurry up, Eileen."
"Ah, right."
That was unlike Mother. Why is she grinding over a meal?
I walked over to the lady who served my food and asked her, "So, what we are having this fine noon?"
"Human meat."
I was shocked for a second then I asked again, "Sorry what did you say?"
"Human meat. I won't repeat three times young lady!"
Hu... human meat? I thought we fought them to survive. What is this?
"I... I think I'll skip the meat. Do you have something else?"
"Yeah. This meatballs..."
"Ah perfect, I'll be taking..."
"Oh grilled human body."
"... those."
Wait, what? She already put the meatball on my plate, I couldn't refuse anymore. I had to accept what I got and tried to eat it.
"Eileen? What happened to you?", that was Yeena asking me.
"Yeah girl, you look pale", that was my other friend, Joen.
"I... I'm... I'm fine", I said while trying to sit down properly.
"Really now? Doesn't look like it though."
"I'm okay, Jay", I said with more energy.
"Wow, okay, now it feels more strange. I'll call your mom, hold on!"
"No, wait, Jay", I scratched her feather a little bit.
"Ouch. That wasn't necessary, was it? What's gone into you?"
"I'll... figure it out myself. Let's just eat."
I didn't want my mom to get involved with my problem because I knew she was also into this. I meant she was giggling about this earlier on, right? I had to bear eating a human-crushed meatball.
"Alright, girls. Time to get educated. Put your plate in the available place near, Mariana, the serve lady."
"Put it here, please."
"After that, I'll wait on you girls in front of the hallway door. Don't be late."
Okay, Eileen, breathe. You are going to be a 200-year-old harpy. What could a ceremony could do to break your mind even more? Yeah, right? Nothing. I can do this.
"Seriously Eileen, what is happening with you? You were looking alright when we met in front of the mountain feet."
"I just learned about something disgusting, Yeena. We just ate human."
She gave me a weird look, "And? You never knew?"
"Huh?"
"We had one before, Eileen. We hunted them when they were in the forest doing their ritual or whatever with that big fire thing. You didn't remember that we murdered them then the next day we ate them?"
"Wait... Wow... I thought we were eating rats or... cows or something."
"No. We ate humans."
I never would have imagined learning about that here today, I was so shocked that all of my feathers were standing straight. Then I was more shocked by what my mom was saying when she was guiding the group.
"Okay, ladies. What we have here today is a MAN! This is how we reproduced our species. We are one of, if not, the most extinct species on the planet so kidnapping these men and using them for our advantage."
I was getting goosebumps, my heart pounding really fast. We were not killing these humans because we needed to survive from the humans, no! We actually needed them. We abused them and used them to keep our species alive.
"No. I can't take this. I'm out!"
"Huh? Wait, Eileen! Miss Hawkeen! Eileen is escaping!"
I ran out of the mountain and saw that it was almost evening. Time sure flew fast and I can fly faster. I flapped my wings and started to fly away from the mountain. I could hear my mom, Yeena, and Joen calling me but I kept on flying away.
"Eileen, baby! Why are you flying away?! Come back!"
"Come on, Eileen! This is reality! You, me, and Jay will be 200 soon. We need this education."
"Ah, fuck it! Miss Holland, you take the right. Me and Yeena take the left. We will flanking her route."
No... No, this is just wrong! I couldn't just take away their lives like that, I could bearly kill them when I had to, but killing them willy neely? Hell no.
At that moment, my head was spinning like crazy. I didn't have a slight idea what happened but when I opened my eyes again, I fell from what I thought was a bed and I realized that I was inside some kind of room. A room that I had never seen before.
