Chapter 143:
The Lifeless Supermoon: A Fateful Encounter
"Something was definitely wrong with her today... something doesn't feel right." He looked down at the road, with having blue jeans and a green shirt that made him late. "It doesn't add up."
It's too sudden, the change of Ayane's character. She just so cheerful and bold during the festival, but now she is crying like a baby, pushing him away and telling him to leave her alone. She didn't act like this before.
Lost in thought while walking, he found himself beside an empty playground. The sky was giving off hues of yellow as nightfall approaches.
"Ugh... why does nothing make sense?!" Frustrated, he looked up the sky while sitting on the swing. "She was okay before, that only indicates that something happened after that. During the one hour. But I can't think of anything. The only thing I can think of is that she was groped at the train while coming home..." he mumbled, trying to make it make sense.
He swung the swing gently with his legs. "But her pushing me away doesn't make sense... I am missing pieces." Kanako was quick on the fact that something is wrong, but he couldn't figure out what that was. He swung the swing harder to vent off.
"You are cute-" he heard a voice from near. "Playing with the swing at such an age?" She giggled. Kanako didn't notice her presence before.
"Uhhh... Sakiko-san, am I right?" Kanako hesitated. He almost forgot her name.
"Yes. We meet again! Sorry I couldn't reply to your text, though it was a few months ago! Some things came up and I didn't have time..." she dulled her voice at the end. She was not really sorry, she just wants Kanako to not to think anything about it and have a fresh start.
"Oh no it's okay!" Bingo. Kanako hit Sakiko's mark. Kanako didn't bother to know about Ayane from Sakiko anymore. He had heard it from Ayane during the festival. Silence grew up between them.
"You look down a bit." Sakiko went and sat on the swing beside him. "Did Ayane push you out too?"
"Eh?!" Kanako froze. "She did that to you too?"
"Something isn't right I feel. She doesn't do that usually when I visit her." Sakiko sighed of concern. "Do you feel the same?"
"Yeah I do!" He felt a bit relieved, knowing that he wasn't the only one. Though it isn't something to be relieved of.
"Maybe... just maybe... it's because of that...?" Sakiko mumbled, but loud enough for Kanako to hear.
He stood up in an instant. "Because of what?"
Sakiko was trying to hold her grin back. It was all playing along, just as she planned.
