Chapter 3:

Guardians of the galaxy

End of Despair

— Suisei, you've been more lively lately. We like that side of you, you know?

— R-Really? It's just... that presence is finally gone...

They were in a futuristic spaceship. A young red-haired man was talking to a girl. His skin was tanned and he wore a futuristic armor. The woman had short, dark blue hair and was wearing silver medieval armor.

— You’re different too, Kachi... you used to be more temperamental and yell at everything.

— Oh, that old me? I’m still him, but when I learned that losing my temper can cost me my youth, I simply stopped expressing myself. But I’m still as stressed as ever.

— Why? We have nothing to worry about...

— Are you serious? This power you have... you said a mysterious voice gave it to you, right? They've always tormented you. We do have much to worry about.

— I-It's nothing serious, really... My only concern is whether they affect my friends...

— They just need to show their faces and we'll beat them up, together!

He smiled warmly at her. She felt relieved, as if a huge burden was being lifted among her friends.

— Oh, we've arrived.

They left the spaceship, entering a huge space station. They sat in a lobby, waiting for someone. A green-haired woman appeared. She wore glasses and a white lab coat. Her eyes were blue, with white circles inside her pupils. Although she looked disinterested and tired the whole time. She held papers and paced impatiently.

— Alka! What's with the hurry?

— Kachi, Suisei, you're here... I told you two to come to our meeting on time.

— We were in another galaxy, alright? We came as quickly as we could.

— What were you doing, slacking off? We have to treat dozens of planets just this week.

Suisei spoke:

— Uh... where's Shinka?

— That nerd? Now that you mention it, that’s weird. He’s always punctual…

A man ran through the crowd to meet them. He had short dark blue hair and wore glasses, along with his futuristic armor.

— You're here... our spaceship was destroyed...

Alka asked:

— What happened?

— I don't know... We were searching a planet, when something pierced it and exploded everything.

A voice came from behind Suisei:

— I wonder what or who did that... or better yet...

She was hugging the frightened girl from behind.

— ... how is he still alive?

The presence pointed at Shinka. She wasn't smiling as usual. Irritated, Kachi stood up from his seat and muttered:

— You... You're the voice Suisei heard...

— Oh, am I?

Zetsu walked into the circle of friends to show off her beauty.

— Let's go somewhere empty! We'll kill you before you even think of something funny!

— Calm down there, buddy. I've come here just to talk.

Shinka asked:

— Then why did you attack my ship?

— It's called a glorified introduction, you know what I mean? Gods can't simply appear and not do a dramatic entrance.

Alka said:

— What do you want from us?

Kachi yelled at them:

— What? Are you giving up to her already?

He approached the goddess and pointed to her face.

— Look here, if this place wasn't crowded, I would have killed you already, bitch.

Alka continued:

— Shinka couldn't even see her before the attack. We don't stand a chance against her.

Zetsu replied:

— Ara, finally someone smart among you few. You see, one of the reasons I came here...

She looked at the terrified Suisei, smiling sadistically.

— ... was to say hi to my favorite vessel.

Although scared, she managed to speak:

— W-Why are you doing this? They have nothing to do with me...

— Oh, really? I know who they are from head to toe. And I must say...

Her expression darkened as she leaned toward the girl.

— ... owners don't really appreciate their pets wasting time with unnecessary people.

She squirmed and began to cry silently.

She's so easy to break... and so... cute.

Kachi punched her in the head, but she didn't move. She smiled at him menacingly.

— Do you guys often make pacts with gods?

Shinka replied:

— Gods don't exist.

— Then how do you explain my presence here?

— You're not a god.

— Anyway, I'm here to make a deal. Let's fight somewhere empty, like the tomato head suggested.

Alka asked:

— What do we gain from that?

— If you kill me or I admit defeat, I will stop pestering you all.

Kachi shouted:

— The hell you would give up so easily!

— You're right, I won't give up, no matter what. But... making a contract can make me keep my word. If I admit defeat and continue attacking you, I'll die immediately.

— Bullshit!

— I won't give up anyways, but you should trust the word of a goddess.

— You know what? If we get to kill you, it'll not be in vain.

Alka said:

— And if you win?

— Nothing specific will happen. I will continue to mold Suisei in my image and perhaps kill you one by one to make my job easier.

They shivered. Shinka suggested:

— Someone should watch over us like a judge. Otherwise, you will cheat when your life is in danger.

— Babe, I have no reason to cheat. Alright, my friend will be keeping an eye on our little fight.

— What if he joins the battle?

— Geez, you guys are stubborn. How about this: I'll destroy this station if you don't agree to my terms. It's not like you can do anything about it anyway.

They stood in silence, thinking about what to do. One wrong turn and they would be dead. They nodded, agreeing with her idea.

They went to a random planet. Zetsu was far away from them, waiting for them to prepare. Shinka advised:

— I checked the analysis, there is not a single sentient soul on this planet. This solar system is also very far away from the others. In case something atrocious happens, nothing here is of great value to our species.

Kachi replied:

— Whatever, man, thanks for the observation. Are y'all coming with me?

Everyone nodded. Suisei looked down, fearing the worst. Kachi approached her and placed his hand on her shoulder, smiling reassuringly.

— Your power is useful to us. Can I ask for a little effort? It'll be over soon.

She looked up at him, nodding after a few seconds.

— Guys, I'll have to ask you three to step away for a moment. It'll be destructive.

They understood that he was not joking. The four of them had vastly destructive powers, so teamwork was a bit difficult for them. At least, their bodies could withstand much more than normal humans.

Kachi stepped closer to their mortal enemy. Zetsu was static, like a statue. Seeing him finally approaching, she moved her mouth to smirk.

It's coming... I can feel something powerful coming this way... and it's not a mechanical worm this time.

He raised his hand toward her, suggesting he would summon or throw something. It began to rain, slowly clouding the landscape. Kachi clicked his thumb, as if he were about to detonate a bomb.

The wet ground and the raindrops that were still falling suddenly combusted, blasting the horizon. Each explosion was stronger than multiple atomic bombs. The planet, although much larger than Earth, had a visible percentage of its surface instantly erased.

Before the smoke could clear, Kachi had his neck grabbed by a shadowy figure.

— This landscape is kinda boring now, don't you think?

Zetsu dragged him to another continent on that planet, jumping and throwing him against the ground. A huge crater appeared. All the clouds dissipated. When she fell to punch him in the face, Zetsu was pushed by high-speed tides. The hole began to flood with water. The huge tsunami created a new sea right there.

The ground, sky, and water began to evaporate rapidly. Then, what was left melted into a green, viscous paste.

Acid? The glasses girl used Suisei's water to accelerate the reaction... not too bad.

Zetsu's body temperature was insanely high due to the intense corrosion. This weakened her exterior a bit, but she was more than intact. Then, a huge blue laser beam cut through the horizon, hitting her squarely. She was thrown onto a snowy continent, where another laser was fired in her direction. With it, Shinka landed a punch to her head, pushing her back a few more kilometers.

She punched the ground to slow her momentum. The intense snowstorm happening there confused her senses a bit. Kachi kicked her back, slowly freezing it.

Ice? I thought his power was to blow things up.

Then, she noticed a pattern.

— Storms, huh? Are you the Storm Godess's pet?

The sky opened a hole in the center, releasing an insanely powerful bolt of lightning. It devastated the entire biome, probably electrocuting the entire continent. Then, the sky began to fall. Water mixed with acid disintegrated what was left. Furthermore, coming into contact with the electricity, it managed to paralyze Zetsu for a second.

Another laser hit her. This time Shinka dragged her along, stopping after hitting the sky. Since his path was linear and they were at surface level, he had traveled far enough to move diagonally, out into space, due to the curvature of the planet.

Another laser, this one green and much more concentrated, hit her stomach. It was super-reactive acid. A planet-sized sphere of water appeared above them, slowly falling toward the surface.

Shinka fired another laser, pushing Zetsu down. The impact her body caused released a strong shockwave, shaking the tectonic plates. She avoided Shinka's kick by rolling to the side. Kachi kicked her stomach upwards, followed by dozens of kicks in random directions.

Waiting for her, Alka swung an acid sword at her, with no visible effect. She landed in a forest. Shinka and Kachi coordinated their attacks to surprise her. Kachi kicked her against the trees, breaking them and releasing strong shockwaves. Shinka dashed and fired laser beams, cutting the forest in two.

A massive tsunami destroyed the trees and pushed her body away. Another huge wave brought her back. The water evaporated and fell again as acid rain. Shinka punched Zetsu here and there, increasing the force and distance she traveled. Kachi followed up by kicking her and causing massive explosions.

The shockwaves began to tear everything apart, even other continents. Tectonic plates began to rise around them, forming new mountains. Then, the enormous sphere of water crashed into the ground, pushing the planet out of its orbit and flooding the entire surface. Then, it began to disintegrate everything it touched, rapidly approaching the core.

As the sphere was still falling while the surface was being flooded, the planet was pierced by part of it, creating a huge hole in its interior. When the core was exposed, a storm of magma gushed out of it, pushing Zetsu towards the sun. Then, a laser pierced it. Shinka dragged Alka with him. She was holding an acidic spear that managed to pierce his heart.

Shinka fired his strongest laser, pushing Zetsu towards the sun. She smiled maniacally. When she was close enough, she summoned her armored knight and casually threw the sun towards them. They teleported to another planet. The Goddess of Despair was already there. Kachi was dumbfounded.

She wasn't even trying to fight back until now...

They were motionless, as if they had experienced death. Zetsu put her arm around Suisei's shoulder, smiling like a psychopath. Her heart was still pierced.

— This... this is what I was talking about!

She spun around, laughing at the sky.

— I knew humans were not so disappointing after all!

Kachi said hopelessly:

— We lost...

— Yes, yes, yes! This is what I wanted to see so much! Your defeated faces, your utter despair!

Suisei asked:

— What will happen to us now...?

— Like I said, nothing specific! You've already fullfilled your role! You're worthy of being receptacles left and right! You're so much rarer than you think!

Alka asked:

— What about the hole in your heart?

— Oh, this? I can heal it anytime. But...

She stepped closer to her and stared into her eyes.

— ... I'll keep it for a moment. You're some of the only humans who've managed to even slightly hurt me!

She looked at Shinka.

— You... I'm glad you survived that spaceship. You surprised me, I must say.

Then she spun around like a ballerina again and stopped to clap for them.

— You four... have a great team coordination. Gotta say, you're fantastic! I'll leave you alone... for now. Lust!

A green and pink portal appeared behind her. She walked backwards until she passed through it and it closed.
