Chapter 4:

Will of the gods

End of Despair

— She's making her move, Zetsu.

— The Demigoddess of Observation? Wow, such a long ass name. How about Demi?

— Yes. Just as we expected, she got help from other gods.

— Such as?

— The Gods of Illusion.

— That crazy couple? They're weaklings.

— They can cause great damage, although not physical.

— You're right about that part. Ugh... do you think they'll listen to that maniac?

— They're easy to convince. And Demi knows their weaknesses.

— Her plan is to kill the God of Distortion's receptacle, isn't it? We won't stop her before that.

— Isn't it risky? She might escape before we get to her.

— The vessel she's targeting... That guy will not let her go after he sees her death.

— That guy...? I thought you didn't like him enough to remember his name.

— I didn't say his name, that's how much I care about him.

— Why not his sister? She's way stronger.

— I want her mind weakened so I can breach it later. That guy is of no use to me, other than killing Demi and the God of Distortion.

— Do you think he's that capable?

— With his sister by his side, everything is possible.

— Even defeating us?

— Nah, that's out of question.

The siblings they were talking about were named Ishikawa Yuto and Kanata. The former lost his sister, the strongest heroine in the Tokyo's hero association, in a battle they had planned. After defeating enemies on her level or even higher, he and his team managed to revive her. It took a lot out of them, of course, but even the gods had their eyes on that couple.

Zetsu only saw value in Kanata, as she could be a great receptacle for her. What they had to go through was not interesting to her, only the results. And the result was that she, an anomaly, was alive again.

Yuto had spiky purple hair and stood on top of a huge mountain. It was night, but he could see the ethereal horizon of the magical world he was in.

Demi said one of the enemies would be here... I knew I couldn't trust her.

— Ara, what a fine-looking young man we have here.

He turned around as quickly as he could. The woman speaking to him had medium-length blonde hair. Her eyes were mostly purple, very colorful. She wore a mix of magician and jester clothes, including a black top hat. She was holding a circus cane. Her skin had a lot of make-up.

— Uhe, did that sound sensual? I'm not like that, I swear! Or maybe I am, who knows?

Yuto assessed her power level.

She's strong, really strong...

— Oh, why the serious face? Yuto, is that it?

— How do you know my name?

— I am a goddess, literally! And Demi told me beforehand.

— Demi...?

— Oh, I talked too much, my bad!

— You've got to be kidding me...

— There’s no point hiding my purpose now, is there?

— Are you on her side?

— Gods don't take sides, my dear! Well, they do, but not us, the Gods of Illusion!

— There's more?

— Yes, we're a couple! Not a romantic one, I promise! My male counterpart is confronting your sister right now.

— So I just have to kill you to ask Demi some questions?

— Yes! But I warn you-

Yuto punched her in the face. One thing his sister had always taught him was how to concentrate his power in a single area. His fist could wipe out an entire country, but he didn't want any casualties. Suddenly, everything around him disappeared. A city appeared, in the night. It was Tokyo, his hometown.

— This place isn't real. Nothing is. Everything is an illusion!

This is bad... I could use an omnidirectional attack, but what if she's lying? I can't risk destroying the city...

Suddenly, a massive light erased a quarter of the city.

— Do you remember this? It was your fault, wasn't it?

— What could I possibly do?!

— Oh, darling, there were many things you could have done to prevent what, millions of unnecessary deaths?

— That's easy to say when you're a goddess! What are necessary deaths to you? When someone dies to protect your will?

— Necessities are relative, my dear. Are casualties necessary to you?

Kanata had messy dark red hair. Her face was serious as always, scanning the surroundings.

— Hoho!

She clapped her hands horizontally, releasing a strong blade of wind that cut through all the clouds in its path, for at least a thousand kilometers. Since she was on top of a huge mountain, she probably didn’t kill anyone. The man behind her, however, was unharmed. When she turned around, she was in a completely different place.

She was now on a moon. Above her was Jupiter.

— So much violence... I kind of like it!

— You're...

— That's right, I am a god! The God of Illusion!

— I didn't think gods could be so resilient...

She cracked her neck, preparing for a big fight.

— I can say the same about you. A human, capable of rivaling a god. Not yet, unfortunately.

— What do you mean?

— You're strong, but not enough yet. I can toy with you all I want!

He looked very similar to the goddess. Kanata didn't waste a second and stepped hard on the moon, destroying it instantly.

— Talk about collateral damage!

— Shut up! I know this isn't real!

She chased him with all her speed, flying around and punching him. Then, she began to run after him across the surface of Jupiter.

— What if this was real? You're used to killing millions for no reason, aren't you?

Her eyes were filled with hatred and denial.

— I don’t care about the weak! If they wanted to live, they would be stronger!

— Says someone strong. Have you ever thought about how they feel? Maybe they want to be stronger, but they're not as gifted as you.

— SHUT UP!

She punched him in the face with massive force, releasing a shockwave that circled Jupiter and dissipated its atmosphere. The core was now exposed, slightly shattered. A voice came from behind her.

— Being gifted has its flaws... many gods have their eyes on you.

— How are you still...

— You can't kill a god so easily.

— But I am so much stronger now!

— Not at the level of a god.

Zetsu smiled.

— See? She can't accept the idea of someone insanely more powerful than her. That's what we want. Instability, distortion...

— Speaking of distortion, do you think Yuto can kill Demi?

— Anger, rage, hate, adrenaline... any intense emotion can make humans or even gods stronger.

— Still, she's a deity. And the same applies to her.

— It's a traumatic event for him. Seeing one of his only living friends die due to his carelessness fuels his karmic power to the brim.

— Guilt, regret... I can see it now. Beyond all these emotions, the universe wants him alive.

— So do we. We won't let him die before he fullfills his purpose.

— Do you think her grandfather is against us?

— It doesn't matter. He can see us right now, but he can't do anything directly. If he dares to lay a finger on us, we have plenty of hostages.

— Using the old rule of the strongest rules... speaking of strong, I have something for the Goddess of Illusion.

— Oh, what is it? Have you been wandering through other dimensions to find a new pet?

— Don't underestimate her. Only we or those stronger than us can defeat her.

— That's surely a rare find...

Yuto attacked her with everything he had. He gave up on saving the city, knowing it wasn't real. The fake Earth was now falling apart.

— Why even waste your stamina? We could be talking right now, under a cozy cabin.

— Shut up! Let me go before I kill you!

— That's not going to happen anytime soon. Are you worried about Haji? You should be.

— Then let me go, please!

— Sorry, can't do. I made a contract with Demi.

— Why?! You knew she was demon!

— She threatened us. Even though she is a demigoddess, her power far exceeds ours when it comes to unpredictability.

— That's not possible! You're just making excuses!

Her face became serious.

— You're one to talk, Yuto-

She suddenly disappeared.

Huh? Is she playing another trick on me?

She reappeared in space, in the middle of nowhere.

What...? Oh god, this is bad... there is a third party-

She felt a powerful presence behind her. It was very warm and bright, despite being in space. She turned around.

What the fuck...

A huge yellow sphere stared at her. It looked like a sun, but with many white rings rotating around it.

It's the God of Light, Akari.

Who are you?! Get me out of here! If you don't, I'll find a way out anyway!

The rings began to align, leaving the star's light shining directly at her.

It's useless. It can see you no matter how far you go. It can see your fear... now it will purify you.

She created trillions of clones and teleported everywhere, even outside of that universe. The rings were all aligned now.

The sun began to shine brighter. It released trillions of rays everywhere, targeting each clone. Then, a huge laser beam disintegrated more than 25% of that universe. It went further and destroyed the barrier of the observable universe, reaching other dimensions and erasing the existence of the Goddess of Illusion.

The fake dimension Yuto was in began to slowly fade, until he was at the top of the mountain again.

Is she gone? I have to save Haji, now!

He flew away at his maximum speed.

— Haha, that was impressive, Lust!

— I hope we don't have to use that again. It's a bit unpredictable.

— Still, it didn't target us. That must mean you're good at taming.

— Thanks... At least I can interact with deities from other realms.

— Wait just a bit more. After Demi and the God of Distortion are dead, we'll strike. We will have a good fight after a long time. You did well, Lust...
