Chapter 3:
Under the Pretense of Incapability
The sun is trying to get through my curtain-covered windows, please I want to sleep for one more hour, I am still exhausted. His warmth comforts me a bit though, in this cold and desolate apartment. Oh that reminds me, I need to go shopping I think.
I went outside to go shopping.
The weather is getting warmer each day, spring is arriving soon, huh? I have another tournament in March, basically every month there is at least one tournament. So most of my life since I graduated has been tournament, analysis, practice, repeated ad nauseam.
The little time I have for myself, I used it for boring stuff as well. I tried going on vacation and getting a new hobby, but none of them hit me. I see people doing it, and it looks fun, even if I am only looking at it, not experiencing it. Most of them are doing it with their friends though, do I need friends?
But I don't know how, I am only friends with Kristof because he approached me first, and then he adopted me. Maybe I should ask him someday.
I'm at the convenience store.
I'm kinda sick of instant noodles, but I can't cook. Should I try cooking? But it takes too much time, too much of a hassle, I could spend it on studying. Although I have a lot of spare time when I am not playing a tournament, it's not like I spend my entire waking hours studying.
I look around, and from a far I see noodles, not instant noodles, just normal noodles without any seasoning, I don't even know what kind of noodle it is, it's like flat and yellow but not like spaghetti.
I'm getting spaghetti instead, and then searching for easy recipes online first while I am still here.
So I finished shopping.
I got spaghetti, a jar of tomato sauce, ground beef, and cheese, I forgot what cheese it is. I grab it out of the shopping bag, it's, paar-mee-san? is that how you pronounce it? I'm sorry to any Italians if I mispronounced it. Really shows that I am not very well-versed in food world.
First, boil some water in a pan, and don't forget to sprinkle some salt in it. Then, put the pasta into the pan, it doesn't fit so I break it in half.
While waiting for the pasta, I can fry the beef. On the frying pan, I toss the ground beef that I bought and stir it with a spatula. The recipe said that I just need to fry it until it's brown. I stir it for a few minutes and, is it normal for it to be charred? I think it's fine, so I pour quite a bit of tomato sauce on it and stir it for another few minutes.
After the beef and sauce are finished, I turn off the heat for both and strain the pasta. I think I might overcooked it, it looks so soft. I grab one with my fingers, which is a terrible idea because it's steaming hot, the pasta is definitely overcooked.
I put the pasta on a plate, then the beef and sauce on top of it. The recipe said to grate the cheese, I don't think I have a grater, I can't find one. I'll just chop it, and try making it as thin as possible, which I failed miserably.
So here it is, my own spaghetti. It doesn't look very good.
I eat it, it doesn't taste very good either.
Maybe I should stick to instant noodles or eating outside.
