Chapter 54:

Devils Mezu and Gozu II

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

Abram and Rush were again where they had gazed at the city for the first time. A desolated old warehouse where their secret gate had been hidden, just as expected, Abrams' new team had arrived within the warehouse. Unlike his first hunt as captain, he will be assigned a personal team like the rest of the captains from this point onwards, but due to the complications in going from the labyrinth to the city, this will be the first time he will see them.

When all of them emerged from the gate with their black suits and grey ties, Abram was relieved to see three familiar faces among them. A woman with red hair and a tired expression was introduced as Deborah, a rather distant soldier whom Aurora trusted quite a lot. The other one was a very tall, stoic Caucasian man named Rock. He was quite a brilliant man even if he rarely spoke with others, and besides him was a short woman with glasses named Tina, one of the few technicians and radio operators the hunters had. Abram had worked with them in the past, so it made sense that they were sent to his team now that Aurora had disbanded them.

There were two new people he had never seen before, though. A tough-looking woman who was a bit taller than he was but lanky, with brown skin and long straight hair, she waved at him with a half-tired smile. The last one was a short caucasian man with brown messy hair and feckless who didn't seem to have bothered to straighten his tie properly.

"I'm guessing you are the captain right now. You are way shorter than I thought. My name is Bhavna Katrhi. You may have heard of me, just maybe." She shook Abram's hand, but the way she looked at him was in clear disdain.

"I have... you were a lieutenant for the Warlord Bors." Rush came closer to them with an angry expression. Abram had the feeling that the less he knew about this, the better as he shoke her hand.

''No worries, I deserted. I even had to put a bullet on Bor's head to get out. Needless to say, if I show my face on the wastes again, I'm dead, so no worries. I'm looking forward to working with you, captain. Abram nodded. She certainly had a different air to the rest of the hunters he had met, which meant he definitely couldn't let her intimidate him.

"Hey man, my name is Thomas. I was a raider in the south, mostly a sharpshooter. Just one question boss, can we like take some stuff while we are hunting? I mean, if we are infiltrating somewhere, we might as well, right?" The short fellow scratched his hair as he smiled.

Believe me, once we are hunting demons, that is the last thing you are going to have in mind. Abram hoped these two were going to follow his orders; even if he wasn't a powerful warrior of the waste, he at least had a demon, and that had to count for something.

''You said it, boss, but I guess there are no rules against that, so maybe just once in a while.'' Somehow it didn't feel like the man listened.

"I expect you to follow my orders. I don't really care if you take stuff, just don't slow us down, but we are not here to hurt civilians for any reason. I'm not letting that rule get broken." Bhavna nodded with her hands behind her back, and Thomas agreed as well, with a nervous smile.

"No wonder you two made it out of Aurora's rookie team already. I'm feeling a bit awkward here just being a caravan guard." Deborah laughed weakly as she adjusted the rifle on her shoulder.

"It will be good to work together again, Mr. Abram." Rock gave a thumbs-up to Tina. "Right, right, we didn't get to talk much last time, but we know you are quite capable, Mr. Abram." Abram smiled and pulled out the map of the apartment complex.

''Well, the first hunt for us on the Grey Hounds squad is to hunt down two demons. Because of that, Captain Rush Collins here will give us a hand. Abram pointed at Rush, who was staring at the raider with a clearly hostile expression, but he remained quiet with his arms crossed.

''Fortunately, it seems that if one of the demons dies, the other one will go on a rampage and die soon after, so the faster we take down one of the targets, the better. Alright, then this will be our plan, so follow it closely. We are going to split them and lock them away from each other. " All of the hunters reunited on the table in the middle of the abandoned warehouse, hearing their instructions as they were going to head immediately to hunt that very night.

***

The night had fallen in Korean town in the desolated plaza where the demons had to make their nest, but during this night something even stranger happened. A fog began to spread through the plaza, truly covering it under the veil of the night. The people closed all of their windows as they prepared themselves for another uncertain night.

"The hell, are we really going to try to make a run for it in this weather? Since when is there even fog in Argia?'' One of the few guards of the Genji brothers complained as he sneaked back inside the apartment. The other guard followed him, saying they didn't want to stay outside any longer.

''This town is really strange, isn't it? The people here aren't running away at all... Do you remember what the Nishiyama used to say about this place, that it was cursed or something and that is why old man Nishiyama always forbade us from messing with Korea town? "

"You mean the ghost of Korean Town? Trash. Besides, we have two demons here. That has to be worse than any ghost. Don't you think so?'' He stooped as he looked back at the other guard, but the hallway was empty. He was instantly annoyed.

If you think you are leaving me here to guard the entrance alone, you have something really bad coming. He turned on his heel back into the hallway and he saw one of the dorn doors half-opened.

Hey, did you see something in there or what? You better come out right now. " He headed to the room and reached for the handle when a long white arm came from inside the room and grabbed his hands with enough strength to crack his fingers. The man was about to scream, but another pale hand grabbed him by the neck, stopping him. He looked in terror into the darkroom as slowly more and more hands began to crawl from inside it, like snakes. The long arms reached for him all at once, dragging him into the room as the door closed suddenly behind him.

The hallway remained silent as the fog began to crawl inside.
