Chapter 55:

Devils Mezu and Gozu III

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

You bastard, why the hell can't you just go down? I really can't stand you. Having to spend the rest of my life with you is worse than any hell!'' Ichiro Rushed against this brother once more, the horns of the ox stopped as his brother crashed against him with his shoulder. The two brothers were once again going at full strength at each other, something that had been a daily occurrence from what Abram had seen from afar. They both fell to the ground, the horse-headed brother crashing down on a sofa and pummeling it completely.

"Argg... your plan is worthless. There is no way the triad will just let us join them. They'll kill us and take our demons. They already know how to summon them. You stupid horse face. " Ichiro remained sitting on the ground as his head shook. It was always the same. Neither of them could ever get a clear victory. They just fought it out till they lost any will to fight any longer. They couldn't kill each other and they knew it.

''Do you have a better plan? We are at the end of our rope here. There is nowhere to run, no one to fight, we are just waiting to get executed. It is worth a try because I'm not dying quietly. " Shinjiro was on his back on what remained of the sofa, looking at the ceiling.

''You got that right, I'll put my horns on any moron that comes after us. You can die for all I care though, stupid brother.''

"Why was it that we ever agreed to this contract? The constant need for human sacrifices, having to share one life with each other, our faces... How did we make such a colossal blunder?"Shinichiro shook his head as he stood up again.

''It's because we are stupid, isn't it? We are just nothing but thugs for the Nishiyama, who never ever changed. We will never be treated the same as them.'' Ichiro also stood up, and they looked at each other, trying to hold back their rage when suddenly the light in the room went dark.

"What the hell! "Ichiro roared as he looked around looking for his brother in the dark, his anger being overwhelmed by nervousness.

"It seems they won't just let us go with ease, someone is coming for us, so be ready." Shinichiro pulled out a handgun from the table as he stood quietly listening for any sound.

Finally, I have so much anger to vent out. This is what I have been waiting for! " Ichiro roared as he grabbed his ax from the floor and, in a second, broke the door out of the room leaving it wide open, and as they did on the floor below a group of hunters began their march.

"Alright, they won't be able to get the lights back on. We have a flashlight with us and they don't have anything. This will break what little morale their men have, but it won't do anything to the demons." When Tina was done messing with the fusebox down below in the apartment service room, Rook was standing beside her with a Tommy gun pointing at the door as her guard.

"Hopefully, these gangsters will make a run for it. The fewer people we have to kill, the better." Tina fixed her glasses and took out her rifle with a small flashlight.

As the two of them bunkered down and waited for the main entrance of the apartment complex to be opened and the fog rolled into the building, six figures walked inside and Thomas and Bhavna pointed their rifles at both hallways. Abram and Collins looked around the room.

''The entrance guards are missing. How strange. I guess they have already deserted. " Collins stepped forward as he ripped off his right sleeve, showing the metallic face growing on his arm with bright red eyes.

''You guys know the plan. Just stop anyone else from going to the second floor. Let's meet again later, my friend.'' Rush smiled and gave a kind slap to Abram before moving down the right hallway with Deborah following him. Abram walked on the opposite side with Bhavna and Thomas, but he slowly disappeared into the fog.

The operation had begun and Deborah ran upstairs to the third floor by the right stairs into the deep darkness of the apartment complex. He could hear someone complaining loudly ahead in Japanese, and she slowed her pace to not make a noise while turning off her flashlight. She moved down the quiet white hallway till she finally saw two guards walking towards her. They were so engaged in their dispute that they likely didn't notice her in the dark, so she went ahead and took the first shot. She felt her heart race as she threw herself against the wall and shot again. The other man immediately opened fire with a handgun. It had been a close one, but she managed to get the shot. Now she kept going down the hallway just as planned.

She heard a loud sound ahead—the sound of metal dragging on the floor.

Deborah turned on her flashlight and shined upon two pairs of deep black eyes. Slowly, a massive figure walked down the hallway. Ichiro, with its ox head, stared right at her, dragging the massive ax in one hand, his black coat mixing with the darkness of the hallways. As soon as the light shined on its face, the demon Ox howled and ran towards her with his horns forward.

Deborah didn't even scream but quickly ran away, sheer fright still showing on her face. The ax swung in the middle of the small hallways, breaking the white wall after missing her red hair just barely. The demon sped up its massive body, cutting the distance in a moment as it swung his ax again.

She was already running out of breath. It would not be humanly possible to reach the end of the hall in time, but she didn't need to. The demon didn't notice the open apartment door in the hall and as he reached it, Rush Collins came out from inside the apartment, tackling the demon by the side with his massive iron shield. The demon lost his footing, waving his ax wildly as he was pushed back into the open apartment room on the opposite side of the hall. The ox demon was forced back inside the small apartment, but he strengthened his stance and pushed back, making Rush recoil. They could barely see each other in the dark, but the shining fiery red eyes on Collins's shield began to illuminate the room with an anxious red-dimmed light.

''You are not getting out of this room. Sorry..damn this plan was way too wild, you are safe now Deborah, he aint leaving this room. "

''You... don't look like trash from the Nishiyama or even an inspector. What the hell are you? "

Guess, for now, my job is being a demon hunter. " Ichiro shook his head and chard with his ax as Rush forced him back into the room, where he broke down a wooden table, throwing the decoration and pictures of the room onto the floor. The demon lowered its head and tried to strike at Rush with his horn, but he managed to raise his shield into the air just in time to hit him on the chin, causing him to recoil in pain.

"I said that you will not pass! " The shield and the ax crashed again.

Deborah could still hear the sound of their fight from within the dark hallway. She was already near the staircase of the apartment, taking a moment to recover her breath, but she heard the sound of steps coming up the stairs, and with a gasp, she pulled up her rifle and aimed down the stairs. She shot down, exchanging gunshots again as she took cover. Quite a few men were coming upstairs, but in such a tight space, they could not move without giving her a good shot, so they backed away, but if they rushed, she couldn't get them all.

''Damn, Aya had the right idea with retiring... Please hurry the hell up already. "

At the other side of the apartment complex, Bhavna and Thomas reached the second floor, finding the guards just about to go down the stairs. Thomas rushed rather than go back up the stairs, even with the men being armed. He quickly hit the first guard with the back of his rifle in the face, knocking him down. The other man shot his gun, but he was hit first in the chest by a precise shot from down the stairs. Thomas laughed in the dark, throwing the man to the ground by sweeping his leg and quickly aiming his rifle down and finishing the job.

"You raiders sure are not lacking in excitement." Bhavna stepped onto the second floor, looking with glee at the man finishing his victim, but he quickly calmed down as he looked into the dark corridor ahead, where there were some very loud steps getting closer and closer. The two hunters moved to each side of the hall entrance to take cover behind the wall. But Thomas was shot before he had a chance to hide on his shoulder, causing him to scream.

The massive man with the head of a horse was walking through the hall with a handgun drawn and aiming forward. Even in the dark, his shot had been precise. The man shook his head, his mane moving wildly as he moved his right arm into the fog and grabbed Abram, who was about to stab him from the darkness, his colossal hand holding his entire arm locked in place.

"I can smell you, little rat." Shinjiro pointed his gun right at Abrams' cap. He looked back at the demon, truly frightened. He was not expecting the demon to catch his presence with such ease.

''Damn it, animal demons really are the worst. " The spectral hand of the bride swiped at Shinjiro in his face, making him miss his shot by an inch of Abram's head. He quickly grabbed his knife with his other hands and cut the wrist of Shinjiro to force him to let him go. The demon raised his leg and kicked Abram in the chest, throwing him away onto the ground and pointing at him again with his gun.

"I don't know who sent you, but we are not the ones dying here tonight." The fog began to cover the entire hallway as Abram stood up. With so little space, there was no point in even trying to hide, so the demonic bride appeared fully behind him, covering him under its misty veil.

"Sorry, but you brothers are out of luck now. Nothing personal, it is just that it is better for everyone if you are gone." There was no excitement in Abrams' voice as he quietly passed his sentence upon the demon.
