Chapter 57:

Devils Mezu and Gozu V

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

"Screw this! If the Nishiyamas want us to die, they will have to come themselves. I will not die to a bunch of cheap hitmen! " Shinjiro aimed his gun again at Abram, who quickly rushed towards him. The skeletal figure of the bride was following his trail as the fog engulfed the hallway, giving cover to his two allies in the back. The man with the demonic head of a horse made an inhuman scream as he received a bullet to his torse and just shrugged it off, running to crash headfirst with Abram. The hunter disappeared as Shinjiro pulled the trigger again, only hitting the floor when Abram had stood, but the demon didn't panic.

He could still smell the presence of the hunter near him and reached out with his huge hand towards the fog. He grabbed Abram by the arm, but he was already with his dagger ready in his left hand and aimed at the demon's chest. A shot rang out again. Abram managed to hit the demon but missed his heart as his right hand was pulled back, dislocating his bone. The gunshot hit him point-blank at his shoulder. Abram screamed and the forgotten bride swiped with her hand to release him from the demon's grip. The two of them fell back, neither able to kill the opponent but coming terribly close.

"Arrggh... I will kill all of you." Shinjiro screamed, but his voice grew quiet as he grabbed his head.

"No way, brother... you couldn't just die like that!"Shinjiro's voice of anger and lament turned into the roaring of a beast, he was rapidly losing control of himself. His eyes grew red with a light of their own. He started to scratch his own face, desperately releasing blood.

"Brother...you fool " He whined like a horse, tears falling from his eyes, his mouth agape. Abram had a feeling that Collins had finished his job, but now he was sure something terrible was about to happen. Shinichiro simply let go of his gun as he grabbed his head with both hands. Its long horse mane was growing and growing covering his whole face.

"I failed. We couldn't ever be free. I'm sorry." His voice finally degenerated into the neigh and howling of a beast and Shinjiro fell to the floor amidst the mist. Abram stepped back. He was feeling that something terrible was about to happen. The demon in front of him had a presence far more overwhelming than anything he had seen before.

"You must leave this place, as wounded as you are. The beast will rip you and your tale will be forgotten." The bride spoke behind him, a truly rare thing, but he could only nod. The man in front of him began to shake in pain as his limb stretched and grew, the massive head of the horse rose, long red arms coming out from under a veil of black thick hair.

''You don't have to tell me, I need to regroup with Collins. Listen to you two. I will take him to the roof. You two should leave the building already! " Abram screamed back at his two remaining hunters amidst the fog. He had one plan left to make enough time for Collins to join him on the roof. He just had to make sure not to die. Abram turned back on his hill and ran back towards the stairs. He could see Bhavna waving at him while going downstairs to the first floor.

''Break a leg, captain. Bhavna said as they retired out of sight, but he just growled at her mocking comment and headed to go upstairs towards the third floor. The demon crawled using his long arms-like legs. The red limbs with black long nails scratched the floor with every moment. Most of its body was hidden under its growing black hair, but his back was stretched to the point where some of its bones were sticking out of his skin. Now it resembled a four-legged beast, more horse than man. The creature groaned, following Abram with his smell, and quickly moved through the hallway and towards the stairs.

With its long arm, it reached toward Abram's back, but it was stopped by the bride who tried to slash him. The demon took the long claws of the bride to the face with a roar, simply charging up the the stairs, breaking the walls as he made the bride banish into mist by crushing her with the sheer weight and speed of his mass. Abram reached their floor and ducked as the beast almost reached him with his mouth, the head of the horse showing the teeth of a shark within the gaping mouth. Abram evaded its bites and ran upstairs to the rooftop door, which he quickly forced open with a tackle, stepping into the night of Korean town.

He ran, trying to make as much distance as he could. The demon at his back was stuck due to his size, but he forced its body to crawl out of the door and onto the rooftop. Abram couldn't make much sense of that mass of red skin and black hair. His lower body was that of a horse, but his torse still resembled that of a human, but now his size had grown and his skin seemed to be at the limit of how much it could stretch. The beast howled, shaking his head as the black hair fluttered from side to side.

"Brother... I'm sorry... sorry.. sorry. " His voice breaks down into the night of a horse. It seems that what little reason it had left, he only seemed to wail those same words now.

"There is no one close by, so we better go all out. You get me, demon." The mist expanded from underneath Abram, and the skeletal figure of the forgotten bride appeared at his back.

"You seem distressed. You have unpleasant memories that have assaulted you." The bride whispered.

"No, he just reminded me of Nicholas. All I can do for him is to put him out of his misery. How sad that even in the city, people still cease to be human just to have the power to earn their lives..." The beast's eyes glowed as they set upon Abram, and the creature crawled forward toward the center of the expanding rooftop.

"In the end, ending a demon's life is the only kindness I can give them, nah is just the only thing im good at." The fog could not protect him against such a beast; it would smell him no matter where he ran, so he charged instead, with the bride floating above him and into the remnants of what was once a man. The bride's long nails stabbed the demon in its right eye. It shook its head and moved its long arms towards Abram. The beast had so much difficulty moving that it was as if its very body was rejecting it, but thinking its bones were sticking out, the demon still reached out with his arms to kill him at any cost.

The horse demon lost an eye, and Abram made sure to move towards its blind spot. Even if the eye would heal, he still had a few minutes to aim for its heart. Abram reached for its heart, but he was struck with great force by the demon's head as if a hammer hit him and made his head spin as he was thrown to the side. He quickly rolled on the ground to get back on his feet, barely evading the huge arm that swatted at the floor. He was already at the border of the roof when the demonic horse charged forward. Abram had no time to dodge and ducked, barely moving below his chest as it ripped apart the fence on the rooftop, throwing it into the black skies.

Abram was sweating. He had to finish this now. He had no chance of winning a physical contest. Just like the worm, this could barely be called a human anymore. The bride, as if reading his mind, crashed against the beast holding the arm it had raised to attack, and at the same time, Abram reached for its chest and stabbed the creature in the heart. The demon once more struck with its head, and Abram had to back down losing his knife before being bit by the demon's maw.

Abram rolled down on the floor in pain and tried to get up before the beast rushed him again. He had left his knife piercing the demon, but it was not a deep enough cut. He had to finish the job. The beast howled, but its charge was interrupted as a gunshot rang out and the creature bled from his other eye. Abram looked behind him, but he couldn't see where the gunshot came from.

"Brother, give him back!" The creature, even while blind, charged towards Abram, following his scent, but as he raised his arm, a long white hand reached from behind his back, grabbing it in the air and forcing his hand back with great strength. Abram was speechless. Countless white arms were growing from the ground on the rooftop, raising upwards like vines and grabbing the demon with great force. Many thoughts went through his head, but he ignored them all as he saw an opening to grab his knife on the demon's chest. He ran forward, leaping towards it and holding the knife with both of his hands, using all the force he could muster, till the creature howled and began to burn with a green flame. Abram knew that the demon's life had ended when the flames lighted, but he had no hope of gaining a single breath. He turned back, taking his knife back as he felt danger behind him.

"Are you an assassin? I've never heard of you before. " The bride appeared behind him, covering him in fog as he heard the voice of a woman just in front of him. It was a dark, tall person wearing a long black coat that came down almost to her shoes and an elegant black tie. Her hands were pale with black long nails, and her black hair fell down, covering almost all of her face. It was long enough for strands of hair to reach her waist. Staring at her, she looked like a tall pillar or an obelisk as she stood on the roof where she had not just a few minutes ago.

"Splendid... You didn't hesitate at all; you saw, opened it, and took it. I do wonder what those green flames are. I've never seen such a thing. " She had a serene if tired voice. Abram could see the shadows of a smile below her hair, her skin completely pale. Abram stepped back. He felt a sense of dread from that woman he couldn't put into words.

"What are you? " Abram raised his knife, getting into position.

'' I'm an assassin nothing more, and you seem to have stolen my prey. I'm going to make you talk. Why are you in my town? " She slowly opened one of her white-pale hands, and Abram could see it again. From behind her back, multiple long arms began to grow and move, almost as if they were dancing.

"Welcome to Korea Town. If you are a menace here, I will be the one to take your life, and for free, so let me judge you, you no-name assassin. " She broke the distant reach towards Abram.

He only got to see her white palm reach for his eyes.
