Chapter 102:
Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.
"You sure you dont want to stay back, we could do with our deputy in the city instead I dont think there is that much a human can do there, you do get that Eva?" Eva hid a small vial in her trenchcoat, it was a similar coat to the one all high-ranking inspectors wore, a long white coat with the insignia of an eye on its chest. She looked up at the chief who was standing with some sort of huge metal rod in her hand it was a very strange weapon, and she could only wonder why she was bringing that rather than a weapon whatever it was, it was easily twice the size of the old woman making it clear she was stronger than any normal person. Her attire shinned with the many medals on her chest and the golden insignia of the eye on her white cap, she had a coat as well, she had come with the entire ceremonial attire, unnecessary, and yet just by dressing like that anyone outside the city would know how powerful a woman she was.
Eva stood up her fingertips near the vial, She still was unsure what to think about it, but she was told to keep it a secret, and she did.
"No, It was my fault Mr.Franklin died I need to at least help to settle the score, that man with the mist is in there so I need to find out what is truly going on, chief Please allow me to follow you." Chief Rodgers put her palm over the young deputy's shoulder.
"Is a pity that Chief Miles took all the credit for your research. I think you would make a finer chief than he does, but alas he played the game better, dont give up though, I will ensure you take the position of vice chief on our return even if Miles is against you, if you bid your time a day may come for you take his place."
"I dont I feel...im just not good enough for scheming...is not why I joined the force."
"Well you are young, maybe you will get it one day, how little such idealism will get you, at least I know you ain't giving up. Who knows, we may one day meet again in the higher districts." Eva didn't seem to take the compliment well.
"I don't get it is there any reason why you are so fixated on the higher districts? I feel as chief of police you already have all the power ordinary citizens can hope so." Eva asked her as she let go of her shoulder.
"I suppose it because if there is such a thing as Utopia in this city it has to be there, but maybe there is only hell in there too...either way ever since I saw the inner walls as a kid I hated that people thought I had no right to go past them, whatever is behind them as long as I can go past that wall I think I will be satisfied, those simple dreams, if there is one thing that makes us different to devils are those silly dreams. I guess that's why I can't help but like you miss Eva as naive as you are."
"I think I understand...I won't be distracted any longer as members of the police We have a job to do."
"That we do kid, that we do."
The two of them stepped in front of a massive stone gate where the great majority of the police department had assembled today they were not simply in uniform but wearing protective gear and riot shields with the insignia of an eye marked on their surface, men and women in rows standing at the ready as the chief of the police stood with both Miles and Eva at her side
''There is no telling who there is one of those assassins, anyone that doesn't comply would be subjugated anyone that tries to show any hostility you are free to be shot, these are wild outskirts there are no such things as civilians out there, and no a way for us to know how many devils they have on their side, so do not hesitate.'' The chief said she clicked her tongue.
"Dont try anything dumb if you see a devil report and keep your distance the chief and I will handle that scum ourselves." Miles was carrying his iron button over his shoulder with one hand, he seemed excited and eager to move forward.
"...Try to make it back no matter what...this is for Inspector Franklin," Eva said as the men saluted, She felt a sting of regret by using his name but for all the trouble the inspector had the higher-up most of the forces had nothing but respect for the man, they would do all that was necessary to deal with the people that murdered him and so would Eva
"We will move now There are five vehicles outside and we will split into three teams, let's show them that the eyes of the city forgive no murderers. Now then move out!" The police department for the first time mobilized towards a great stone gate to the outside world, their boots stomping with force to them that the outside world could only be but a den of devils.

"Well let's not mingle words, If the warning the Louise agency sent us is correct, the police department is moving half their entire personnel to our location. Not surprising considering they directly confronted us at Café Ocassio but this is so much sooner than I would have wanted."Commander Emilia had called for all five captains again, even as devils both Abram and Aurora had exhaustion upon their faces it's been a mere few days since their biggest operation and now it seemed they may just face an even worse day ahead.
"They know we have demons here for sure they will come with everything, I suppose that stag man is gonna show up again, alright I'll send him packing this time." Collins who usually refrained from talking much on any operation had no concern today.
"We need to be careful or the whole of the center town could end up in the crossfire. We will start evacuating but I doubt we will have enough time for all citizens to go deep into the labyrinth A lot of them won't bother listening either." Cao looked at the document he held, fortunately the members of the police department were all public figures so it wasn't hard to find and fast.
" Vice director Miles has the devil Furfur, it lets him heat his a body at such temperature he can straight up heat up the metal and cause severe 3rd-grade burn even devils cant heal burns like that so fast, burns are hard to regenerate...is best to keep our distance with a man like that but his speed and strength is befitting of a beast like a devil."Aurora raised the photograph of a man with a long stag horn upon his head.
"This woman is a new deputy...Eva. so that's her name, she is just a human I saw her before she was with that inspector that raided us before...I guess this may be my fault for letting her get away."Abram looked at another photo it was the only familiar face to him, he just stared at it for a moment before leaving it aside.
"Nevermind that, there is no point in whining to you at this point this was gonna happen eventually let's just see it on the bright side, they are not the anti-devil Corps they are not specifically trained for fighting demons, so then what about the direct anyone knows if she is coming?"Emilia asked the captains till Aurora finally answered.
"They couldn't confirm it but they said she is at the very least not on their HQ I think if she does that could be a problem, Chief Rodgers her profile is well let's say she has been in no shortage of corruption scandals, but there is nothing on her having a devil, if she comes she probably has one,a woman in her 60 wouldn't charge a devils den with no demon of her own."Aurora shrugged.
"I see, real devil of a woman that one, not that im one to talk, alright then we have very little time we are rarely the ones on the defensive after all, let's start setting up our strategy I already told all able hunters to reunite at the center of the labyrinth at very least this labyrinth give us all the terrain advantage we need...sacrifices will be needed today im sure the police will not simply ask us to give in peacefully." Emilia's words were heavy and Collins punched the desk without saying a word they all knew he had a history with the police chief and vice chief so they didn't pressure the man.
"In my opinion, we have a clear advantage even if the director has a devil while we cannot count on the commander's Minos, we have four devils in here, still may ask what about our fifth devil, the daughter of Cartel chief?" Cao asked Emilia and sighed.
"Too risky, last thing we want is for her to escape from this situation or worse turn on us, besides I rather the police never find out she is here, but as tempting as it is we will keep the little princess under lock and key." Cao nodded in agreement as Emilia stood up.
"Very well hunters, dont overthinking we will do what we always do...and hunt us some devils."

"Hello there Aya It has been way too long since we last saw you."Aya the retired member of Auroras team had entered a wide chamber within the labyrinth, she was wearing the black suit of the hunter's something she hadn't worn for almost a year as a member of security she was more used to the central guard uniform now ever since the worm Vepar attacked she had not worn the black, she saw her old companions calling for her, Deborah the red-haired girl with rock and that glasses girl she didn't quite remember the name of. The room was incredibly full, every corner had members of the hunters wearing their suits and with their rifles already at hand and the ambiance was just as tense.
"How have you been? We three got moved to Abrams team but he is a better captain than I thought."
"Not doing much, this is the first time I was requested to get off my post...what exactly is happening I've never seen all hunter squadrons reuniting at the same time, even members of the guard are here."
"Yeah about that...I think we are about to be hit by a raid from the Argia police, they are reuniting us all to begin our tactics plan, but sadly that means even the guard will be expected to fight today, things are getting ugly really, Im so sorry Aya, I was hoping you wouldn't have to fight on the frontlines again." Deborah hugged her but she didn't seem to react much.
"Is fine, They still give me a salary so I knew this may happen someday, but still I guess things getting serious inside of the city?" Deborah looked at Rock who crossed his arms.
"The city is not as peaceful as we thought..."
"Figures, I guess I can live better in my retirement knowing I didn't miss the perfect golden ticket, still good to see you guys are still around I dont mind fighting with you guys again." Aya looked at the rows of men and women with black suits, She never noticed before just how many more there were now, in just a year they doubled in number, still far from a real army but it made her remember they were going to war and once more some of them will not return.
