Chapter 3:

Sakura and The Imminent Encounter

How My Guardian Angel Became My Boyfriend?

Kaito looked through his files but he couldn’t find any justification for Sakura’s inherent strength. He was interrupted by a knock on the door.

“ Who is it? “ He asked to which he received a response just as quickly, “ It’s me, Kaito. May I come in for just an instant? There’s something I must discuss with you. “

Hesitating due to Christopher’s earliest words not so long ago, Christopher insisted, “ I promise not to take up much of your time, so please let me through! “

Sighing, Kaito deactivated his magic with just a hand movement. Walking in, Christopher stepped forward to Kaito. Noticing what he was holding on to, his attention shifted to it, “ What is that in your hand? “

“ Oh, this! “ He gazed at it for an instant and said, “ I brought you your favorite fruit juice. Will you accept it? “

Gazing at him, Kaito asked his colleague hypothetically, “ What’s with the sudden kindness? What are you up to now? “

Sighing sadly, he said, “ I can understand how wary of me you must be. You have every right to doubt me after how inconsiderate I was being with you earlier. I’m here to make amends for my recent behavior and this fruit juice is proof of that. “

Feeling through his gaze that Kaito wasn’t yet believing him, Christopher emphasized, “ I was so rude to you and spoke out of tune when I should have been happy for you. I’m very sorry, Kaito. I’ll leave you be just like I promised. “

The moment he turned his back on him and was about to walk out of his office, Kaito reacted, “ Where do you think you’re going with my juice? “

Turning back at the sound of his colleague’s words, Kaito extended his hand and said, “ Give it to me! You know how much I like this fruit juice, don’t you? And yet, you were about to take it away with you? “

Grinning slightly, Christopher handed the fruit juice to him without making much of a fuss. “ Sorry, Kaito, it won’t happen again. “

“ Haha, I forgive you, but don’t ever behave like this again! “ Kaito laughed it off casually.

“ I won’t. You have my word on this. “

Sipping the juice after the chatter, Kaito enjoyed it, but in the middle of the drink, he asked, “ Why does it have a weird taste? “

At the sound of the question, Christopher retorted, “ That would be my fault! “

?

“ As I wanted to apologize to you for my earlier behavior, I slightly improved the composition, my apologies. You don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to. I won’t take offense to it. “

Grinning brightly, Kaito uttered in response, “ What are you talking about? You made this juice for me with so much love, so of course I’m going to finish it all to the last drop. “

Christopher watches as Kaito finishes the juice he got him in one swoop. Handing the glass to him, he emphasized, “ Thanks again for the juice, Christopher. I feel energized all of a sudden, thanks. “

“ You're welcome, Kaito! “

Observing him, Kaito, who noticed the constant stares, asked suddenly, “ Is there something you’d like to ask me? You keep staring at me for no apparent reason. Is something troubling you? “

“ I don’t know how to say this. “

Concerned all the more, Kaito asked sternly, “ Tell me what’s wrong! Don’t keep it inside you! “

Sighing for the nth time, he emphasized, “ I’d like to know more about your human, Kaito. Ever since you returned, you haven’t spoken about her, so I was wondering what was so special about her that you would remain this dedicated even after sixteen years of endless and insufferable wait? “

“ Well, if you must know, my human is the brightest and the most intelligent person there is in the whole world. “ Kaito uttered in praise. “ Even when she’s angry, she looks so dignified and elegant that you can’t stay mad at her for long. Even though she doesn’t require my help, she feels lonely at times. “ He concluded sadly.

As he kept on praising her mostly about how amazing and dignified she was, Christopher was observing his colleague’s complexion. Hours into discussing nothing else but Sakura, Kaito suddenly felt heavy.

“ Why’s my head suddenly so heavy? “ Kaito mumbled, faintly to which his colleague responded, “ You must have overexerted yourself. I suggest that you rest before tackling anything else. “

“ But I can’t. “ He mumbled faintly. Recalling the promise he made to Sakura, he mumbled further, “ I promised my human I would see her after school, so I must not make her wait. “

He tried walking, but only after a few steps, he tumbled and was caught by Christopher before he reached the ground.

“ In your current condition, you cannot go anywhere. “ He tried reasoning with him. “ Your human wouldn’t like to see you in that state either, so you should seize my advice, Kaito. Rest for a bit and go see her afterward! “

Noticing how he wasn’t saying anything, Christopher uttered, “ I’ll leave now, so you can rest. “

Right after he left, Kaito mumbled, “ Sakura, wait for me! I’ll join you after taking a short nap. “

After he was done mumbling, Kaito fell into a profound sleep, not knowing at the time that he wouldn’t awaken in a short while as he promised.

Back in the human world, hours passed which seemed like an eternity to Sakura, but as the last hour concluded at last, she sighed, relieved, “ Finally it’s over! I thought it was never going to end. “

Walking out of the classroom and heading toward the exit, Sakura was taken aback when she didn’t feel her guardian angel’s aura anywhere near the school promises. Wondering about his whereabouts, she thought, “ Where is he and why can’t I feel his presence anywhere? Could he have broken his promise to me? “

“ I’m afraid so, Sakura Fambrose. “

!

Sensing a potent aura, Sakura turned around, and above her, she gazed upon an angel with featured green hair and mesmerizing green eyes, piercing at her.

“ Who are you? “ Sakura communicated telepathically with the angel as students were walking in and out of the school building.

Satisfying her curiosity, Angel Christopher uttered, “ Oh my, where are my manners? “

Landing on the ground, Angel Christopher uttered, “ My name is Christopher and it’s an immense pleasure to finally make your acquaintance. “ He introduced himself dashingly before Sakura who then wondered how he came to know about her.

Guessing her thoughts as she was piercing through him with her gaze, Christopher uttered, “ You must be wondering how I came to know about you, don’t you? “

Sakura didn’t let her emotions show although she was surprised by how he came to guess her exact thoughts.

Answering her pondering question nonetheless, he uttered, “Kaito told me so much about you that I had to see for myself the kind of human you were to have my colleague so smitten upon reuniting with you after sixteen years. “

Not beating around the bush, Sakura asked the angel before her sternly, “ What do you want? Why are you here? “

Gasping, he said, “ Nothing much. I just came to notify you that Kaito won’t be joining you as he has more urgent matters he must attend to, so he had me come instead to replace him. Whatever plans you had with him, you may tell me instead! “

Observing Christopher and recalling her guardian angel’s enthusiasm upon meeting her for the first time in sixteen years, Sakura emphasized, “ Thanks for passing the message along. You may joyfully return to the angel realm. I’ll be going now, goodbye. “

Feeling irked for some reason, Christopher blocked her way as she was trying to advance further. Annoyed by his behavior, Sakura asked sternly, “ What now? “

Boiling inside, he said, “ You don’t seem to understand the situation, Sakura Fambrose. Kaito won’t be returning to your side anymore, so you might as well make me your guardian angel. “

“ What nonsense are you spewing right now? “ She glared at him after the comment he made.

“ I’m not spewing any nonsense; I’m quite serious right now. You shouldn’t hesitate and make me your guardian angel. “ He uttered very determinedly before Sakura who responded affirmatively, “ No, thanks, I’m not interested. “

Going another route, Sakura stopped and uttered, “ If Kaito has decided to resign from being my guardian angel, he must come and tell me himself. I’ll believe no one else but him. Have a safe trip back to the angel realm! “

“ What about Kaito? Do you want me to pass on a message on your behalf? “

“ No. Don’t pass on any message to him! “ She uttered firmly before turning away to leave.

Leaving the school premises, Christopher internally thought, “ This girl is so headstrong, so I can’t say whether her bond with Kaito has been shaken or not. One thing’s for sure, I’ve messed up things pretty badly for Kaito, so much that it won’t be so easy for him to patch things up. “

On the way back to her residence, Sakura internally thought, “ What that angel said a moment ago, was it the truth? Did Kaito truly resign from his position as my guardian angel? “

Days went by during which Sakura didn't hear from Kaito. As her thoughts were starting to slumber, she unknowingly drew Kaito’s picture inside her notebook, surprising herself.

“ What the—---? “

“ Why did I draw his picture when he clearly abandoned me? “ She internally thought before the drawn picture.

Gazing at the picture she had just drawn, she recalled her guardian angel’s angelic beauty, but most importantly, she recalled his mischievous smile and childish behavior. Without realizing why and how tears dropped on the notebook and the picture, darkening it as the result of the tears.

As soon as classes concluded, Sakura who was about to head home suddenly felt the urge to go to the school’s library.

A while later, inside the library, she internally thought as she gazed around, “ He’s not here? What was I expecting coming here? How stupid of me to have believed him when he claimed he’d be waiting for me right after school? “

“ That’ll teach me to believe a stranger’s words. I should have known better not to trust him so blindly. Never again will I let anyone play with my feelings! “ Sakura vowed never to make the same mistake again as she walked out of the school’s library.
