A New Life

Hello, I’m Grayson Brown. I am- was an American. However, after a freak accident, I am now a magic-wielding resident of another world called Escapia.

But how did I get here? I don’t fully remember. It was another normal day of working at a fast food chicken place when suddenly a workplace bully lifted me up over his head and pushed me face first into a deep fryer. Damn my skinny, lightweight, vaguely-twink-shaped body. If I looked like most Americans, I wouldn’t have even fit in there.

Like it sounds, it wasn’t a very pleasant way to go. However, just as I thought everything was about to end, a deity of some sort saved me. I’m still unsure if it was mercy or pity, but they, in their formless disembodied shape, explained that I was going to be “rehomed” to another world because my previous life ended so badly through no fault of my own. They also explained that many others from earth had been sent here, but I would be the first American.

What would that matter to me? Hell if I knew. I was just ready for a change in scenery. I was eager to accept this offer, and then POOF! There I was, in an open field in another world.

“What the hell, I’m not even ready yet!”

I covered my mouth.

What were those sounds that came out? They certainly didn’t sound like English, or any other language from earth for that matter. Once again, I attempted speech.

“Hello?”

Yep. That wasn’t any language I’ve ever heard before. Maybe my thoughts had been translated to the language of this world, or maybe I’ve just had a massive stroke and forgotten how to speak. Either way, I nervously approached the nearest town to find out.
