Chapter 18:

Chapter 8

Deadly Attraction

“I found the person you were looking for. Her name is Grace Smith and she lives in Ashwick.” Dr. Gilbert said, giving me her phone number.
“Thanks for your help.” I said to her, waving back.
I was trying to find Stiles’ online friend but I couldn't. I just had her user id. I remembered that Dr. Gilbert is good at finding people. She can find her quickly. So I asked her to find her.
It's been five days and she finally found her. I can now interview her. But she lives in Ashwick which is far away. I need to call her.
“Did you just flirt with Dr. Gilbert?” Oliver asked me, with a smirk on his face.
“Not everyone is a flirting king like you. We were just talking.” I answered him.
“What are you talking about?” He asked me, raising an eyebrow.
“It's none of your business.” I replied back.
“I am older than you. Show me some respect.” He said, rolling his eyes.
“Do you need a wooden stick, old man? Or should I say Grandfather?” I asked him, teasing him.
“I am not that old. I am just three years older than you.” he said, moving away.
Then I walked towards the entrance of the hospital. It was my night shift. It was raining heavily. I didn't have an umbrella. I was standing in front of the entrance. Then Oliver came next to me.
“You didn't bring an umbrella. Let me drop you home.” He said, opening the car door.
“Looks like I don't have a choice.” I muttered and sat beside him.
He was driving slowly. It was the first rain of this year. I couldn't even see outside because of the rain. That's when I heard a voice. It was a cat’s scream.
“Looks like you crashed something. Let's check outside.” I said, opening the door. “Looks like a cat is injured.” He said, holding the cat in his hands.
“We must take him to a vet.” I suggested taking the cat on my lap.
“It's almost ten. Do you think a vet will be open at this hour.” He asked, driving carefully.
“We must find one. She's bleeding.” I said, cleaning the blood from her leg.
“So it's a girl.” He asked, looking at the white cat.
“See. That one is open. Let's go there.” I said, pointing at the right side of the road.
He took the turn and stopped the car at the parking area. We went inside and asked the vet to treat him. The doctor said that her leg is injured and needs to rest for a few days. We were walking towards the car. The rain stopped for now.
“Can you look after the car?” I asked him.
“Why? Can't you look after him?” He replied back.
“Well. I love cats but my sister is allergic to cats.” I said, handing the cat to him.
Next day at the hospital, I had to maintain the records and see old records. There were two of us. We went to the record room to organise it. I knew it was my time to see Stiles reports.
I was handing the records and keeping it back to myself while my partner was recording it in electronic form by filling in details. We spent two hours doing that. Finally I saw the name I was waiting for.
Stiles Bennet. I opened the file and took photos of the papers and reports before my partner realized it. Then I handed it over to him. I spent a month working in the hospital.
It was late now. My shift was also over. I should go home. Also I have to talk to Grace. She must have known something. I must quickly go home and text her.
[Me] : Hi. Are you Grace Smith?
[Grace] : Yes. Who's this?
[Me] : I am Liam. I wanted to ask you some questions about someone.
[Grace] : Yes. Sure.
[Me] : Did you used to text EmberKnight in Linkup?
[Grace] : Yes.
[Me] : Okay. I will ask you some questions
