Chapter 1:

Running For My Life

I'm NOT the Hero

-bitch!” I ran away from the massive monster. Its roaring is thunderous, my ears begin bleeding from the sound. My feet slipped and slid against the wet rock beneath me. I could tell by the sounds behind me the monster gave chase after me. The faint glow of the monster’s eyes lit up the cave walls around me. I couldn’t make out the details as I ran. everything around me was nothing but a blur.

The Monster around me is continuously roaring. My head pounds with each sound the monster makes. My ears are now dripping with blood. My heart beating faster both from exhaustion and fear. Suddenly I felt a massive push from behind. The Pain strikes me over my entire back.

I fall down into a hole in the ground just barely big enough to fit me. I hit my side hard enough to feel several painful pops upon impact. Pain all over my body as I look at the hole I fell through. Claws inches away from my body as little pebbles fall into the pit I am in. With every claw I could see the hole slowly grow. I could no longer hear the monster roar anymore. It was replaced with a deafening sound of ringing.

My back felt soaking wet, my body riddled with pain, a monster still trying to kill me inches away from having a fresh snack of what was left of me. Suddenly the clawing stopped. The ground shook violently and bigger rocks began falling onto me. The ground started moving, a sensation of weightlessness as little specks of blood floated over me.

“So this is it?” I thought to myself “I die here. Right?” The weightlessness I feel momentarily calms me down knowing I will finally be at peace. At that moment I can feel my body crash into something and everything else goes numb. It’s suddenly peaceful.

I see a light blue color fading by my eyes closing. My body slows its descent followed by the feeling of rising up before my consciousness fades.

“Darkness. Just like before I met the god. The god? Curse that damn god. She’s the one who brought me here without a second thought. Couldn’t even care one bit about how dangerous sending someone to a completely random place in a dangerous world. Then I get put into a damn cave. This is bullshit.” My mind runs through the memories of the goddess.

I open my eyes suddenly. I saw a light shine on the rocky wall. The sound of water flowing softly. The pain was gone. My body felt lighter and drenched, But I wasn’t covered in blood. I looked over towards the water. In the middle of the stream was a sharp rock. The further down the rock my eyes scanned more blood I noticed. The Monster I was attacked by had been split from its center. It’s body now in two.

I hear a robotic voice that echoes through my head. “You have leveled up. You now have 20 skill points available. You have also earned the following skills; Cardio level 2, Noise resistance Level 1, Regeneration Level 1, and Demonic Claw Level 1. You’re now level 5”

“What? What does that mean? Leveled up? Skill points? The Damn Goddess never mentioned those to me. She’s as useless as ever” I said, talking to myself. I choose to ignore it for now as I look around for an exit nearby.

As I looked around a low rumble could be heard coming from my left as I looked I could tell something big was coming. Sensing danger, I instinctively took off running towards the opposite side of the cave room. As I made my way to the other side, I saw a tunnel with a light at the end of it. As the rumbles get closer I take off towards the light. The monster behind was quicker than the last. I began doubting myself if I could reach that light before I was caught again. I took a massive lead once I got close enough to the light.

As I emerged from the dark depth of the cave. I could see green grass and trees and a massive shadow that surrounded me. I looked up and saw a massive skeleton monster with too many legs to count. My finger grazed one of its many legs. I watched as the monster seemed to become one with the sun. I fell flat on my back in the soft grass. After a while in the sun, finally realizing I had escaped from the cave.
