Chapter 8:
Harpy x Harpie: Switcharoo
You could call me crazy, you could call me insane. But right now, my daughter is not my daughter.
Let me explain. A couple of days ago, I was preparing for her two-hundredth birthday anniversary when she suddenly ran off from her pre-celebration day. Her two friends or long-distance sisters and I rushed to calm her down. I didn't think as much back then, but I saw her hair shivering, and not too long after that, she stopped flapping her wing. Luckily, she was free-falling into a lake nearby. And at that moment, she changed from the inside. Her consciousness was not her.
I have spent some time understanding the way this phenomenon works because I have never heard of this happening before. But after some time, the person inside my daughter's body and I concluded that there was a third party involved in this weird phenomenon. That third party was none other than a hunter corporation.
After some discussion, we agreed to train him while he was inside my daughter's body. Right now, he is training with the other girls.
"So, wait, wait, wait! Let me get this straight. You are a human man, swapped body with Eileen, and a magician caused it?"
That was a terrific blow from Joan Birdstein, an excellent sweep.
"Yes, pretty much. Ouch! Look, I don't want to have any beef with you guys, so please fight me like it was training, not like it was a real fight."
For a man, that was a weak statement. It's so sad seeing my daughter looking like this.
"What? You have stolen Eileen's life, and you speak like that? Get real!"
It's almost fascinating how fast Yeena Hawberg grew. It was one year ago that she had just turned two hundred.
"I've told you many times! I don't want this to happen either! I also have a life to intent! Hey, stop aiming for my hands!"
Keep at it, Harpie! You ruined my daughter's image!
"Don't fool us! All humans are the same. They want to kill us and be at the top of the pyramid. You think I will get fool human! And those called wings, not hands."
Yeena kept on talking smack even though she and Joan knew the truth after that day. It's already been a week, huh?
"Although, I was surprised that you managed to learn our language so fast."
That was a really good point, Joan. I, myself, needed to work hard to understand humans. How did he learn it so fast?
"I don't have any idea either. Augh! Stop it!"
At the end of today's training, I reviewed their progress and made some notes to improve Harpie...
I still couldn't believe this guy's parents called their son Harpie. When I heard his name for the first time, I thought it was probably just a joke nickname, but apparently, it's not.
Could that be the reason why they chose him to be swapped with my daughter? No, right? If that's the case, my daughter's name should've been named Hooman or something along those lines.
The more I thought about it the more complicated it got, and I didn't like it one bit.
"Ok, everyone. Today's training is over. I need all of you to stand in a row."
They swiftly flew and stood after me... except Harpie, who had now fallen.
"Oh come on, now. Why are you all looking at me like that? I'm trying my best to become the best of what Eileen used to be. You guys could've at least cheered me up."
You've said that a million times, Harpie.
"You said that always when we finished training. You are the one who needs to keep up!" Joan exclaimed.
"Just because you are a human in the skin of our friend, we won't go light of you", Yeena added
They have said it best so, I needed to give Harpie a word of encouragement.
"Stand up!"
"Yes, ma'am!" He quickly stood straight
I lowered my body and said, "I think you need more than just training. It's been one week and I don't see any progress. Come with me, and girls, you two can continue your day with Mrs. Valva."
With both wings spread, Yeena and Joan bowed down and saluted, "Yes, Mrs. Hawkeen."
They flew away majestically like they were in a ceremony.
"So... what are we doing?" He asked curiously.
"We're going home."
"Huh? I thought we were going to do something else."
"That something else is at the house. Now flap those wings and fly low."
"Yes, ma'am."
Upon arriving home, I asked him to stay in the living room while I was searching for things on the upper floors of this tree apartment.
"Why am I even doing this? I know I don't have a lot of choices but why do I have to do this?"
This item that I was about to use was a last-resort item that was planned to get used when it was an absolute emergency. I never thought I would be using it again.
When I was back I saw him watching some show on the DX2L, "Harpie!"
"Yes ma'am", I saw him stand and face me in a quick motion.
Huh? Why would he be so panicky? Didn't I say treat this like his own home? Ah well, whatever.
"Alright! Are you ready for this?" I brought out a machine out of a box.
"Wow! What is that?"
"A gift... from a former friend."
"Former?"
Why would you ask that, boy?
"It's not that important. What's important is that this machine can give you a surge of energy. I used this one before so, I can say to you that it is safe."
"So, what can it do?"
It was hard to convey in words so I hesitated to answer, "I... I feel like we just jump into field test."
I set up a chair, so Harpie could sit and relaxed my daughter's body on it. I put the machine's helmet onto my daughter's head and asked, "Are you ready, Harpie?"
"I'm not too sure."
"Well, we're going anyway."
"Okay."
I activated the machine and the machine portrayed a 3D hologram of my daughter's body.
"Ahh, I hate doing this, but those human technologies do coming handy sometimes."
I took a deep breath and said, "Time to send him to deep sleep, and hopefully his consciousness connected to Eileen."
