Author's Note

Dear readers,

To those who do not already know, My name is Sevenlock and I’ve been a member of the Honeyfeed community since 2021. I was a finalist in two Honeyfeed writing contests and a winner of two Honeyfeed discord writing events.

Some time ago, I was scouted by the Hivemind Literary Agency to create original stories for Japanese audiences, and I am proud to be the first among them to have officially written and published a web manga in Japan. My web manga, “My New Boss is the Grim Reaper?!” is available to read on Piccoma via a VPN set to Japan. The manga itself is also written in Japanese.

This novel you are about to read is not the manga itself, but rather the original script I wrote for the project. This exact script was then translated by my wonderfully brilliant agent, Manami Fukunaga, before being illustrated by Fujikura Lemon, my immensely accomplished artist.

To say that this novel is a bastardisation of the web manga is a gross understatement. This was not a work meant to be enjoyed in this medium, and so much of the story's strength is lost here. I cannot exaggerate the sheer level of talent and faith Miss Fujikura Lemon brought to my work through her fantastic illustrations. Where possible, I highly recommend reading the web manga. I have linked the website itself in both this novel’s description, as well as the comments of this chapter. If reading this script has in any way encouraged you to pick up the manga, then I consider my job done.

I would also like to thank the amazing staff at Honeyfeed, Hivemind, and Qdopp for making this all possible. I never thought I’d get a chance to get published professionally, let alone as a webcomic in Japan, and especially not as a foreign creator.

This is my first published work. I have no intention of it being my last and I have no intention of it being my best.
