After a series of dead-end jobs, Akane Hayakawa is thankful for a fresh start. All she wants is an ordinary position at an ordinary company, but things take a turn for the worse when Akane realises that not only is the Grim Reaper real— she’s his new secretary.

Cold and apathetic, Death is everything Akane hates, and in turn, her naivety and kindness drive Death mad. Yet, as Akane uncovers the Reaper’s tragic nature and the loneliness that haunts him, she finds herself drawn to the man behind the scythe. There’s an undeniable attraction between the two of them, simmering just beneath the surface, and the more they worked together, the more they both felt it.

Their relationship comes to a head when Akane discovers a dark secret while looking through Death's files, one that threatens to shatter the love that they share. Death pleads with her to not pry further, but Akane continues, knowing that even the immortal God of the Dead cannot protect her from the dangers she may face.
