04:00 AM

I was rudely awakened from my slumber by the obnoxious alarm on my phone. As my brain slowly rebooted, I remembered—today was my first day of high school.

Instead of sticking to my usual habit of arriving late—when everyone had already formed their little friend groups—I figured, Why not get there early for once? Maybe then I wouldn’t look like a total loner on day one.

With that rare bit of motivation, I got ready. By 06:00 AM, just as I was about to leave, my mom was heading out for work. She offered me a ride, which I gladly took.

Oh, and as for my sister?

Still in bed, drifting in her worthless slumber.

As I passed through the school gate, a thought rushed through my head:

"So this is the school that both my mom and sister attended… wow, how absolutely mid."

At the entrance, there was a list showing everyone's class placements. I scanned it until—

"Ahh, Class 1-A, huh?"

With that, I made my way down the hall, moving fast like a speedboat—dududududuh.

I stepped into the classroom and—

Wait, did I just walk in on two girls making out near the window at the back of the class?!

Just kidding.

(But wouldn’t that have been a hell of a start?)

Anyway.

What I actually saw was a goddess.

Sitting gracefully at the back of the class, radiating main character energy.

As the certified mob character that I am, I immediately thought,

"Alright, she’s definitely the heroine of the story. Time to mind my business before I get absolutely humbled by the protagonist."

With my presence successfully minimized, I walked over to check the seating arrangements.

Saw my name.

Saw my seat.

It was at the back. By the window.

Hell yes.

Until—

I noticed the name right next to mine.

"Aoi Sakuragi."

…What a cute name.
