Chapter 19:
The In-Between
Being cautious not to rush inside, Emily ran all the way to Queen Celeste's regal chamber. Rather than deploying her powers at full capacity early, she would prefer to have the element of surprise on her side. So, in the same large room where she had been whipped, she waltzed into it, all calm. Seated on her bone throne, Queen Celeste gave Emily a disgusted look. As Emily entered the room, her guards at the door and beside her kept a wary eye on her.
Queen Celeste scornfully acknowledged, "Emily, I wouldn't have thought you would show your face around here."
Emily gave a shrug. "Yes, all right. I suppose I just couldn't stay away.
"Is that correct?" Queen Celeste narrowed her eyes and questioned suspiciously.
Where is the boy?” she added. The frail human being you loved so much?
Emily held back a flinch as she acknowledged, "Oh... he's gone." It was time for this disgusting cockroach of a woman to die.
"Unfortunately," said Queen Celeste with a victorious grin. "He added interest to the situation."
Emily snorted, "I'll wager." Malignantly, Queen Celeste scowled at her.
"Anyway, I have a proposition for you, which is why I have come here."
When she was done with this, Emily imagined Queen Celeste's head on a platter and grinned evilly.
Queen Celeste urged, "Go on."
"I challenge you to a death-defying battle! Whoever survives wins.
And why ought we to take such action? Queen Celeste cocked her head in bewilderment and said, "I want to conquer you, not kill you."
Absolutely, but I'll be your pawn. "Fight me now or you'll be destroyed," Emily growled.
Queen Celeste beckoned the guards back as they moved forward to attack her. She stepped down from her throne and gave Emily a sly little grin.
"I will accept your offer if you insist on it. Come on, let's play ball.
Queen Celeste conjured up a ball of Shadow Energy in her hand and hurled it at Emily's head after saying that. In a split second, Emily dodged and ran toward her. Queen Celeste was tackled to the ground as she charged at her. Emily opened her eyes to see Queen Celeste disappear through the floor as she felt her weight.
Queen Celeste's voice reverberated throughout the room, "Very clever." Determined not to be taken by surprise, Emily leaped to her feet. "Tell me... Did you use steroids to increase your powers?
Emily was knocked off her feet and onto her back when Queen Celeste plowed into her after darting out of the right wall. As Emily strained, Queen Celeste gave her a hideous smile. Emily shoved her feet up against Queen Celeste's body and pushed her away with all of her strength. Emily leaped to the roof, her wings launching her into Queen Celeste as she flew up to the ceiling. Emily quickly seized Queen Celeste's torso and slammed her body onto the ground, leaving a hole the size of a crater.
“Your royal highness, who is more powerful now?” Flying overhead, Emily scoffed.
Emily was abruptly hit by Queen Celeste's Shadow Energy explosion. Emily was struck and smashed against the ceiling. She landed heavily on the ground after falling. Her vision clouded and her head rattled for a moment. Just before she was kicked in the head, her head cleared. She rolled over a couple of times, then struggled to her feet, bracing herself for another assault. Emily ignored the pain in her nose and wiped blood from her face. Rushing towards Queen Celeste, she hurled Shadow Energy laser beams from her knuckles at her. After avoiding each one and jumping from wall to wall, Queen Celeste eventually landed on Emily's neck in a chokehold, tightening her throat until she could not breathe. Queen Celeste was strangling Emily, so she barely had the power to flap her wings as she flew upward. She utilized her talents to drive her final attack, flipping over and plunging headfirst to the ground at a speed of 100 miles per hour. This was the only thing she could do to survive.
After a period of blacking out, Emily awoke. She did not know how long. There was nothing she knew except that she had won. She saw that Queen Celeste was motionless when she pushed herself up from the dark, deep pit they had made in the center of the room. Furthermore, the guards strangely assisted her in standing up. She took in the harm she had caused, the guards supporting her body because every muscle in her body hurt so bad. For a moment, she couldn't understand why Queen Celeste was destroyed because the two ways to destroy Obsidian Angels were by burning them or chopping them up into little bits. She later discovered that Queen Celeste's body was entirely composed of charcoal, indicating that it had been irreparably burned. It was Emily. She had destroyed Queen Celeste as she encircled herself in fire from Shadow Energy and slammed onto the Earth's surface. She limped closer to the wreckage after releasing herself from the guards' tight hold.
"I have beaten you," Emily muttered as she knelt next to Queen Celeste's tarnished body. For once, this victory belongs to me.
She turned to face a guard who patted her shoulder.
He cleared his throat. This is Queen Celeste's message. "Give this to you when you become Queen," she said.
He handed the note to Emily, who read it for herself.
Emily, my dearest,
I have a very nasty thing to tell you. You have always wondered why your parents died, but I have never provided you with a thorough explanation. In actuality, your mother died while giving birth to you. Your father tried to destroy you by tossing you into a fire pit because he was so distraught. My guards were able to stop his evil action. He killed himself in his prison cell a few days later. I hate to break the news to you, but you have to be aware of the reality before you assume the throne. I hope this makes it clear to you that people are not a reliable species. Consider the case of your father.
Sincerely and forever yours,
Celeste, Queen
As Emily read this letter's last sentences, she gasped. Thus, despite the fact that she was a baby, she had murdered her mother. A small baby! In addition, her father had tried to get rid of her and had killed himself due to his grief. She nearly wished he had been successful so that a monstrous creature like her wouldn't have to exist in the world. To think she had thought Queen Celeste was the universe's most heinous brute. As she realized this, tears streamed from her eyes. Although she didn't intend to do it, she had nevertheless done the horrible act of killing her parents. Something woke up inside Emily, and she bared her fangs and crushed the paper in her fingers. A vicious creature she had imprisoned for too long.
She was no longer the girl she had been; her whole self became stiff and chilly.
The guard who handed her the paper said, "Queen Emily, what are you to do now?"
Emily's smile was contorted. "Of course, tell the Obsidian Angel Dominion about their new Queen."
