Chapter 3:

A Curious Prince in School

The Prince of the Otherworld becomes a Highschool Student

The room went awfully silent, as even the drop of a needle would be heard. Iscodaya, Prince of the Phirines, sat on his chair, his once bright-red face now returned into a plain one. A few seconds ago, he had just said ‘no’ to a beautiful girl’s invitation to be in a relationship.

That girl being Kei Inoue, whose facial expressions were the complete opposite to Iscodaya. Her once confident and calm face, now laced with embarrassment and a hint of red, “I-I see, s-sorry for asking,” she shakingly apologized, “W-well I hope you and your c-cousin enjoy our school.” With an awkward laugh, Kei began to go back to her seat along with her friends.

Iscodaya and Kaus stared blankly as she left, quickly switching back to their language, Kaus uttered, “So~ your Majesty, it seems like we’ve stood out a lot more.”

Iscodaya slowly turned his head towards Kaus, as if it was rusty, “First things first, that was the only decision to make. Second things second, speak the language of this land, not ours. And third things third, I don’t want to hear that from you of all people.”

When the bell rang, the teacher entered and asked for the two to introduce themselves. Kaus stood up and oriented himself with the class, with Iscodaya following right after; the two sounded very professional. Their name garnered a lot of attention due to it’s uniqueness.

“Very good,” the teacher stated, a polite smile on his face, “Well, I hope you all feel welcomed here, and learn a lot of things.” The class started, as Iscodaya brought out the books in his bag. The scientists back at Phirines had researched a lot about the education system of this nation.

Sending in spies to gather information and act as earthlings. When they had gathered enough, and were ready for the main mission, they only thought it best to send one of their best intellectual minds to spearhead it. So as Iscodaya began to write down the information in his book, cleanly writing the symbols that he’d been studying for months, his mind began to be amazed at all the new information.

To his side, his blade and servant, Kaus, was also writing; though it was clear there was a lack of interest in his movements. As they began to switch classes, Iscodaya was being bombarded left and right with new information. Subjects like math were something he already knew but found fascinating for it was very close to their own math.

But subjects like science and history were ones that Iscodaya didn’t know a single thing about. But in the middle of history class, as Kaus was listening to the teacher, pen in his mouth, he heard a sound he was very familiar with, a certain humming. So with a sigh, he turned and whispered to Iscodaya, “Your Majesty, I understand, but please keep your excitement down.”

Iscodaya turned to Kaus, bearing a very dumb looking grin, “How could I calm down with information like this?” But with a warning from their teacher about talking, Iscodaya managed to calm down.

As time went by, the bell rung again, as the students around the two began to talk to each other more and bring out boxes with food. Kaus turned to his still-writing Prince, and after an exhausted sigh, grabbed his book and put it back to his back, “Your Majesty, I believe it is time for lunch, so let us replenish ourselves.”

Iscodaya was a little annoyed that Kaus interrupted him. But since his stomach did growl a few minutes ago, he knew that it was healthy to eat. But as he brought out his lunch wrapped in a bag of plastic, he saw that there were a lot of people going out, “Shall we explore a bit?”

Kaus agreed as the two began to walk around. Iscodaya’s eyes beamed at all the different things, “Your Majesty, wasn’t it you who told me not to get distracted?” Kaus asked, a little embarrassed.

Again with a dumb grin, Iscodaya playfully responded, “Our job here is to research this land, aren’t we doing it?” The two continued to walk, but as Kaus suggested them to actually eat, Iscodaya agreed as they wondered around to eat at a private location.

Picking an isolated bench outside the building, Iscodaya and Kaus began to eat their lunch, talking to themselves about the things they had learned. But in the middle of eating, Iscodaya saw a familiar face come out from a corner. It was the Kei girl who had asked him out.

She was breathing hard, as if in a rush, her head was frantic as it was turning every which way as if she was searching for something. But as her eyes landed on Iscodaya’s sitting figure, she pointed at him, taking the Prince a little off guard.

She stormed to him, as Kaus’ eyes turned sharp, ready to defend his Prince if she were to do anything to him. But as she approached, Iscodaya and Kaus heard her saying something.

“I’M SO SORRY!!” She moaned, almost in a crying way. Both Iscodaya and Kaus recoiled at the sight, “IT WAS FOR A DARE!!” She continued, clasping her hands together apologetically. But as her eyes narrowed at Iscodaya, she saw that his face was fully red, but not just him, Kaus as well.

Quickly Kaus grabbed her hands, and forced her to unclasp them, “T-that’s a l-little too much,” he uttered, an awkward grin on his face. Kei’s eyes wondered what it meant, but as Iscodaya coughed, he quickly got back his composure.

“What do you mean a dare?” He asked, as he put bread in his mouth. Kei’s gaze hit the ground, as she became a bit embarrassed.

“W-well, I was trying to p-prove a point to my f-friend that I… that I’m attractive, so he dared me to confess to you and see how you react,” she stuttered. Though, when she looked up, she was a little surprised to see Iscodaya not reacting at all.

“I see, well, no need to worry about what you did,” he remarked, shifted his collar, “It’s not like you damaged me, just surprised me… just please, don’t do anything embarrassing like that again.”

Kaus nudged Iscodaya a bit, a non-verbal way to say ‘You’re speaking too much like a prince.’ Kei breathed a sigh of relief.

“Thank you.” But as her worry left, another worry came, “Um… if I can ask, why are you eating your lunch in a plastic bag?” Iscodaya’s eyebrow raised, as he grabbed grains of rice from his bag and shoved it into his mouth.

Swallowing, he responded, “Why? Is there a problem?” Kei was a little taken aback, as she turned to Kaus, only to see that he was also doing the same thing.

“W-well, it’s not that it’s the worst,” she began, awkwardly looking away, “But there are definitely better options. For example, lunch boxes.” The two’s brows curled, intrigued, “Just wait, I’ll show you mine, if that’s fine with you?”

Iscodaya nodded, as Kei turned around and took off. A silence came over Iscodaya and Kaus, a silence not broken until Kaus opened his mouth after a long minute.

“I guess for humans, clasping your hands is like… begging?” He questioned, as Iscodaya’s face turned bright red again.

“Why do you remind me?” He replied, giving Kaus the stinkeye, Kaus chose to look away, as he tried to hide the grin on his face.

“So~ your Majesty? Are you going to take her offer?” Instantly as those words exited Kaus’ lips, Iscodaya tried to hit him. But Kaus was already used to it, so he just feigned being hurt, “Ow… gotta say your Majesty, I have never seen you react that way when a girl clasps her hands to ask for you hand in marriag-”

“SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!” Iscodaya yelled, slapping Kaus’ back, his face fully red.
