Chapter 5:

A warned revenge

KING OF A KINGLESS WORLD

Ren tried to ignore it.
The name. The warning. The presence of Cain beside him.
It was better not to dig too deep.
But Leon was different.
He wasn’t the type to stay quiet.

Leon had been waiting.

A bully who tormented the weak—who made life hell for those with powerless titles—had gone too far.

Ren had only stopped him once with Noct.
But Leon?
He was done waiting.
So that night, under the dim glow of streetlights, he hunted.
A Confrontation in the Dark
Three figures stood in an empty alleyway.
The bullies laughed, unaware of the danger.
One of them—Aris—smirked. “Oh? Did the little rat finally grow some fangs?”
Leon didn’t respond instead he told the plan for revenge.
His title was indeed strong.
But unlike Ren, he wasn’t hiding.
He clenched his fists. His heartbeat was steady.
The shadows around him moved.
And then—
A hand grabbed his shoulder.
Cold. Unyielding.
Leon turned—
And met Cain’s eyes.
The bullies froze.
Something about Cain made them step back.
His expression wasn’t angry. It wasn’t even concerned.
It was simply calm.
“Revenge?” Cain’s voice was smooth, unreadable. “Is that really the path you want to take?”
Leon gritted his teeth. “he deserve it.”
Cain tilted his head. “Maybe they do. But you don’t understand what you’re playing with.”
Leon yanked his arm away. “And you do?”
Cain didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he glanced at the bullies.
They flinched.
Cain smiled—but it wasn’t friendly.
“You can go now,” he said to them.
And somehow—without hesitation—they ran.
Leon’s fists trembled. “Why did you let us go?”
Cain looked at him, his sharp eyes filled with something Leon couldn’t read.
“You’re not ready.”
And then, he walked away.

Leon stood in the alley, fists clenched.
He had the chance.
He had them right there.
And yet—
Cain had stopped him.
Why?
Was he protecting Ren?
Or was he protecting Leon?
Ren Watches From Afar
From his window, Ren had seen it all.
Noct, perched on his shoulder, ruffled its feathers.

Ren wasn’t sure what he was planning.
But one thing was clear.
Cain wasn’t someone to be ignored.
Not anymore.

Got it! So Ren was the one being targeted by Leon, and Leon is the aggressor here. Let me rewrite Chapter 7 with that in mind.

Leon didn’t listen to Cain’s warnings.

He couldn’t.

Ren had humiliated him.

That bird—that damn bird—had struck him in front of everyone. And even if no one could prove it was Ren’s doing, he knew.

That weakling. That coward.

Leon wasn’t about to let it slide.

He wouldn’t tolerate defiance.

So he plotted.

Revenge.

Not in the shadows.

Not in secrecy.

But in broad daylight.

The morning sun filtered through the windows of the classroom, but the atmosphere was heavy.

Ren sat near the back, as always, eyes distant as he gazed out at the world beyond the glass.

But today was different.

He could feel it.

Something was coming.

Leon sat a few seats ahead, but his presence was suffocating.

Ren could feel his eyes on him, like a predator sizing up its prey.

He kept his head down, but his hands tensed under the desk.

No matter what happened, he wouldn’t react.

Not yet.

Then—

It happened.

The moment Ren stood up to leave, Leon moved.

A sharp grip on his wrist.

A shove.

Ren staggered back, slamming against the desk.

The class fell silent.

Everyone watched.

Leon stepped forward, eyes burning with hatred.

Ren felt something strange—a cold sensation washing over him.

Then—

He saw it.

A vision.

His own body.

Broken. Lifeless.

Dark mist swirling.

A thousand crows pecking at his corpse.

His breath caught in his throat.

I… died?

But—

He was still here.

The vision faded in an instant.

His heart pounded.

What was that?

Leon smirked. “What’s wrong, coward?”

Ren gritted his teeth.

He didn’t answer.

Leon’s Attack

Silence.

Then—

A fist flew toward Ren’s face.

Pain exploded across his jaw as he stumbled back, nearly falling over his desk.

Laughter.

The bullies laughed.

Ren wiped his lip, tasting blood.

His head spun, but he didn’t move.

Didn’t fight back.

Because fighting back meant exposing himself.

It meant losing.

Leon wasn’t satisfied.

He grabbed Ren by the collar, lifting him slightly.

“Say something,” Leon growled.

Ren said nothing.

“Pathetic,” Leon spat, throwing him back onto the desk.

Yuna Steps In

“Stop.”

A voice.

A girl stepped between them.

Yuna.

The quiet one. The one who never got involved.

Ren blinked in confusion.

Leon frowned. “What’s this? You his babysitter?”

Yuna didn’t flinch.

She looked at Leon, then at Ren.

“You’ve done enough.”

Leon scoffed. “I’ll decide that.”

He shoved her aside.

But the moment his hand touched her—

The air froze.

A suffocating pressure filled the room.

The light dimmed.

And then—

Dark mist rose from Ren’s body.

Thick. Writhing. Alive.

The sound of wings.

A thousand crows erupted from the shadows, filling the room in a violent swarm.

The students screamed.

Leon stumbled back, eyes wide in shock.

Ren didn’t move.

He just watched.

His crows circled above, their black eyes gleaming in the dim light.

He could feel it.

A power deep inside him. A power waiting to be unleashed.

Leon saw it, too.

And for the first time—

He felt fear.
