Chapter 2:
The Cryptid Killer
Dan gave an unnaturally wide smile. His story seemed to have gotten the agent's attention. It probably wasn't often that killers talked about how satisfying the act of taking a life is. Dan wasn't worried about trying to fight his charges. He knew he didn't have long to live anyways so he would never make it to execution. No need to hide his insanity. His mouth was a little dry after all the talking.
“My mouth is parched. Get me some chewing gum or a mint if you don't mind so I can continue. My next kill was truly a feet of engineering and ingenuity.”
Agent Thompson left the room briefly and came back holding a couple small glasses of water. He passed one to Dan who stretched himself out and tried to get away from the water.
“Get that away from me! I asked for gum or mints!” Dan's body convulsed a bit as he was repulsed by the mere sight of the water.
“Hydrophobia,” Agent Donovan stated loudly.
“That's one of the major symptoms of rabies. Hyper aggression, impaired cognitive function. All things you display. Dan, you have rabies.”
“You aren't wrong. This is a special kind that has only been showing symptoms during the full moon. That being said, my days are numbered for many different reasons but I'm sure the virus will kill me first. Speaking of killing, how is the survivor doing?”
Agent Donovan ran out of the room and made a call over the radio, “Get the survivor rabies shots asap. Our suspect has it.”
Soon an ems worker radioed back, “We can't seem to locate the victim. She was in a room in the ED and now we can't find her.”
“Fuck, fuck fuck!” She turned around and walked back into the interrogation room and slammed the door closed.
“You ok Donovan?” asked Thompson.
Dan broke out laughing. “She’s missing isn’t she?” He laughed some more, “well she did say she was going to kill me so it makes sense that during her first full moon she would come after me. Bet she is looking for me now! How fascinating!”
Agent Donovan's silence only made Dan chuckle more heartily.
“I suppose I better get to telling you about the second murder. This one was well thought out and meticulously planned unlike the first one. My next favorite on my list of cryptids is bigfoot also known as a skunk ape. You know about them right?”
Both agents scoffed.
Dan began to talk once again:
Sasquatch are not known as violent creatures, but I often found myself wondering how they would kill someone if they ever wanted to. I would imagine they would toy with their victims before bludgeoning or crushing them to death. That was the scene I would create and film it like a movie so I could watch it later.I used the same method from discord to find my next victim. Rebecca Hale was my first well thought out kill. I spent days setting up sensors in the wood with recordings of loud knocks on the various places in the forest. Those would be the perfect bait for people looking to see a skunk ape. I made sure the areas near the speakers were lined with booby traps that would smash or mame her.
My only real role in this murder was the planning and filming of the whole ordeal. I did not intend to get my hands dirty at all.
I spent nearly the whole month preparing to make my own personal cinematic masterpiece. Creating the traps, planting deer cams, and testing everything had kept me very busy. By the time Rebecca and I were able to meet, it was the night of the full moon yet again. I could feel my blood boiling as the sun began to set and Rachel and I geared up for what she thought was a night of sasquatch hunting.
She wasn't a very talkative person which I appreciated greatly, but was well versed in squatch mythology and legends. Once the sun fully set, I activated the noise machines which sent the sounds of rocks banging on trees into various parts of the wooded surroundings. She had long blonde hair and a prominent tan, with slender but muscular features that were common among people that grew up on farms. Once we got far enough from the main highway, I activated the speakers with the remote I had hidden in my pocket. Rebecca heard the knocking and started heading into its direction. All I did was follow, After about 17 minutes out in the cold and dark, Rebecca finally started moving in the directions of the traps.
I did my best to conceal my excitement when she suddenly decided to head towards one of my most promising traps. I couldn't help that an odd and creepy smile slowly spread across my face the closer we got to the trap’s trigger. Rebecca shot me some strange looks but continued in the direction of my speakers. Soon she stepped on something that made a loud snapping sound.
In an instant, Rebecca went flying back, hit by the fallen tree that was attached to the steel wires of the trigger she had unknowingly activated. She must have flown at least 20 feet before wrapping herself around a tree, her back arched in an unnatural position. Based on the loud cracking sound that accompanied the hit, I'm pretty sure that her back was broken. To my excitement, Rebecca was still alive, taking fast, swallow breaths. The look of fear in her eyes as she choked on her blood was not enough to satisfy my need for blood though. It was so frustrating to me, I had an elaborate murder caught on camera. That was no easy feet, but somehow I felt empty. That's when I decided that I needed more and would kill at least one more time.
The rest of what happened was out of my control as the moon came into view, I could feel my body moving on its own. It was almost as if I was looking at myself moving from far away. I ripped off one of her arms and tossed it to the side as I began to rip chunks of flesh off her body with my teeth. After a few minutes Rebecca's corpse was riddled with bites and gashes. After that feast, I finally felt satisfied. I immediately began thinking about my next kill. This time I wanted to make it look like an abduction.
Dan was suddenly interrupted by a loud banging on the door. All three looked suspiciously at the door before agent Thompson dramatically got up and answered the door. A local police officer was waiting for him to deliver an urgent message.
“We cannot locate the victim. She appears to be fleeing for some reason. We have guys combing the forest right now since it's so cold out and all she had on when last seen were her undergarments.”
“Fuck! If we lose her, we lose the only witnesses we have. Find her and bring her to the station immediately!”
Dan let out another deep, booming laugh. “I told you she is coming to get me! Just wait here and she will show up!” Dan continued laughing maniacally for a few more minutes. The crazy in his eyes more prominent than ever.
