Chapter 21:

Interrogations

Juilet and her Romeo

“You can’t be serious about opening a dialogue with the Capas on this matter.” Benzou was not pleased in hearing about Ryuo’s plans for how he would go about handling this situation. He wasn’t alone in this matter either.

“I know we’re not supposed to be going around and listening to rumors, but you have heard about how some of the students have acted about your rule here, right?” Meguru added in. “And if you don’t mind me saying, some of us here also… Find you taking a pretty soft approach.”

“I’m very well aware of how I’m viewed, but everything I do is for the benefit of Monta and Monta alone.” Ryuo defended himself. He worried that the way he handled business might give away his secret relationship. Though his style of leadership had always been this way regardless of his feelings towards Jurie. “Personal feelings aside, I hope you all at least support my decisions as much as you can.”

“You can be certain we’ll do that.” Said Riyone. “But I do hope you take in our advice from time to time as well.” Such as the next piece of information she was about to mention. “Right now it doesn’t matter what we all want done to the Capas for this transgression. None of us have a clue about the full story on this matter. So I’d suggest we pay a visit to the hospital to talk to our fellow injured classmates.”

Which was what they all prepared themselves to do right away. Despite the fact this was a school day, the incident had riled up the student body so much that classes had essentially been canceled. So the group was able to have free reign on where they could go and what they could do for the day.

“Azutoyo.” Ryuo spoke as the group exited the student council club room. His personal servant, despite how they were surrounded by a mob just earlier, still had to wait outside due to their rules. “We’re going to the hospital. As much as I hate to ask because we’re still in school. I’d like to request your aid in being with me in case things get heated.”

“No worries boss.” He replied with a smile and salute. The perfect fake act to get into the good graces of his boss. As he followed along the group as they left the school, he decided now was also a good time to get some information now that he was alone with them. “If you don’t mind me asking, why are you the ones handling this? Something this big sounds like the adults should be getting involved.”

Even though Azutoyo asked this question, he also knew the Capas would be reacting in a similar fashion. “Aren’t Montas supposed to be respecting the chain of command?”

“Spoken like someone who’s only been at this school for a couple days.” Meguru responded with a laugh. His smug demeanor only made the boy want to punch him, but he had to hold back his feelings with a very deep breath.

“It’s true that the principal takes care of a lot of the important tasks.” Riyone continued on with a much more serious tone. “But this is different. The students are heavily riled up over the matter and I have to admit we’re all upset about it. So a different approach has to be made.”

“Basically the job is passed on to me because the principal and the rest of the adults are still held back by regulations and laws from both the city and country at large.” Ryuo spoke, stopping and turning to face him with a smile. “So it falls on me as someone who can go around those rules to make everyone happy. And it I fail, then I’m the perfect scapegoat, right?”

“What?” Azutoyo froze in place after hearing those words. He couldn’t believe it, not because of how outlandish it was, but because it reminded him so much of Jurie. Despite her constant energy in spreading joy, the truth was she also had to take the brunt of much of the pressures the rest of the school put on her. Was this boy really not that much different than her?

He stood still for a moment as the others resumed their walk, nearly leaving him behind. It took him a few seconds, but he was able to regain his sense by shaking those thoughts out of his head. There was no way that Monta president could actually be a decent guy. He probably had some ulterior motives for taking such a risky position. Once he was able to move again, Azutoyo quickly ran to catch up with the others.

Meanwhile Jurie and the rest of the Capa student council had already arrived at the hospital. They were also joined by Yumoko for extra support as well.

“You guys go on ahead, there’s something I need to talk to Yumoko about.” Jurie ushered the others inside so that they could begin asking some questions.

“What is the matter, mistress?” Her personal servant bowed as if they were at home. “Do you need me to go grab you something to eat?”

“I actually wanted to ask you about last night.” Without hesitation, Jurie got right into the thick of things. “I hear you were the first one to see what happened?”

“That’s mostly true.” For a moment, Yumoko thought about this situation. It was evident to her that Jurie would be getting her side of the story on the incident. She considered lying for a bit. After all, she knew that other servant was there as well and would likely try to fudge the truth to make the Montas look good in this situation.

As an actual Monta student herself, she didn’t mind giving her academy the upper hand. And since they only viewed her as a Capa, she knew they’d believe her as there would be no logical reason why someone in her position would make her own school look bad.

However, knowing there was someone else at the scene who was with her. Yumoko knew she couldn’t go out and lie to Jurie. There was no telling what that boy might say since the truth was much more boring from their end. “But if you’re asking if I saw what lead to the fallout, then I’m sorry for not giving you much more to work with. I only arrived right after things seemed to go down.”

“Yeah, that’s what I heard from some of the other witnesses through social media.” Said Jurie, revealing she had already known this fact. “Thanks for not lying to me.”

Yumoko’s heart dropped upon hearing this. She didn’t realize she was being tested, but why would she be asked of this now? Was her cover already blown? Was this free-spirited president much more conniving than she appeared?

“Wait…” She barely was able to speak up before Jurie walked away and into the hospital. “Why would you be worried about me lying?”

“Oh sorry.” Jurie giggled, as if what she had just said earlier was not supposed to be a major deal. “You see, some students can disregard their morals to try and make us look good compared to the Montas during times of strife. I’m just glad you’re not one of them.” With that, she entered the hospital, leaving Yumoko just outside in awe.

“Huh… I didn’t think someone like her could have such strong justly principles.” She said to herself. From how she had seen Ryuo conduct himself, she could say that he also held such beliefs. Hence why some students viewed him as a soft leader, despite him only trying to keep his own values.

But she quickly caught herself thinking dangerous thoughts as she tried to disregard what she had just seen. There was no way a Capa like Jurie could be some upright individual just out of the goodness of her heart. There had to be a reason she was like this. Perhaps she got a bit of satisfaction of being on her high horse, looking down at the Montas.

Once she had calmed her mind, she realized she had been left behind the everyone else. Hastily, she moved through the automatic hospital doors and had to speed walk inside in order to not lose them as now was the time for the student council to get all the facts from their fellow classmates.
